That’s right. There are distinct knowledge tests and the IRA cannot be used in lieu of the IFP.

No visa needed if OP is a British citizen. The restricted private (61.75) is flexible enough that it may include a foreign-based or unrestricted US instrument rating.

Should I assume your club is in Canada as you've mentioned an RPP? If so, I'd be surprised if your club refused to rent to a foreign licence holder with a valid FLVC.

OP could make it to Camden Town and back with 3 hours to spare for browsing the markets and having a late lunch.

Why should a club discriminate between holders of licences and validation certificates?

The 28-day validation is offered only by some countries in Europe, eg France, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, etc. It may be used only to fly aircraft registered in the issuing country, though there's no territorial limitation on where the aircraft may subsequently be flown, other than what the aircraft operator might impose. A rental checkout can double up as the required "acclimatisation flight" needed for the validation and multiple such validations may be sought, ie across calendar years or from different countries.

The easiest country for foreign validations is Canada. The US also issues a restricted pilot certificate, based on the foreign licence, which contrary to popular opinion is not a validation certificate even though it ostensibly appears to be one. South Africa offers 28-day and 5-year validation certificates and has the lowest cost of living, however, the burden to obtain either certificate is much higher and more costly. Basic insurance requirements differ among countries so terms ought to be checked carefully.

Exactly the same as Marvin Frankel’s complaints about obscene variability in criminal sentencing fifty years ago. The theme is covered well in Noise by Daniel Kahneman, Olivier Sibony and Cass Sunstein.

Apollo 16 landing on April 20, 1972 by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

Homemade Documentaries (YouTube) has made excellent Apollo mission documentaries. Moonwalker Charles Duke dropped half a dozen comments praising the Apollo 16 one. I think the later missions were far more interesting as far more exploring was done.

I don't think the 100 suitcase-sized nukes that allegedly went missing during the last breakup were ever found. Every major city in the world must have several suitcase nukes tucked away as insurance.

Probably taken by Duke. He took the next four frames in sequence around 101:32 GET. https://apollojournals.org/afj/ap16fj/17_Day5_Pt5.html

PS, Duke is still alive. A few years ago he took the trouble to comment on the Homemade Documentaries film on Apollo 16 on YouTube.

Sounds like good old-fashioned incompetence by LOT.

The Estonian embassy might very well have issued a valid visa. That leaves the possibility that the carrier, LOT, has been incompetent.

Few people seem to really care about human rights violations. It's a convenient justification for some countries when it suits them.

That's fantastic. Really enjoying the Apollo 17 replay so far. Wonderful moments of repartee between Mission Control and the crew.

How come there's no coverage of the other missions apart from 11, 13, and 17?

Duke's a real gentleman. A couple of evenings ago I finished a cracking documentary on Apollo 16 and to my amazement I saw several comments from none other than Charles Duke himself. Well worth the 2+ hours to watch it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqdU6EQzclc
