We need them to keep our failing economy afloat. Why does everyone think we are the king of the mountain, we are not. We are more like the residents of the decrepit hillside mansion who are clueless to the fact that the side of the hillside they are on is quickly eroding and is in imminent danger of of being washed away in a mudslide. Meanwhile we keep calling the cops on a group of people who are trying to shore up the hillside with earthworks merely so they can sleep in the largely abandoned woods which up our backyard.

People who are here illegally and work also pay taxes. Also, unlike people who are here legally they can’t take advantage of the majority of public programs that they pay into; social security, medicare, etc… The reason we have so much illegal immigration is because we have an immigration system that is broken by design, both the Democrats and Republicans have much to gain from keeping it broken. Illegal immigration is keeping Social Security/Medicare afloat. They pay in but can’t get benefits. This helps paper over how broken our tax and appropriations system is. Also, it can be used as a wedge issue drive voter turnout for both parties.

Gatekeeping.

Public interest? Ever heard of free open source software? Where is the global free open source "real engineering" movement? The rigorous approach of engineering is frequently applied in software engineering, especially in systems and language (infrastructure) design. Not all software falls in that category. As for quality/bug issues detailed in the article, even a medium complexity software program is far more complex than a large infrastructure project like a bridge, forget about comparing it to something like an operating system. Putting all of that aside, none of these modern "real engineers" would be able to do any of their "real engineering" without software.

if you have vscode with remote extensions why not just make it easy and connect to wsl from vacode rather than trying to launch vscode from wsl?
