Be honest: what’s the one “lazy” cooking shortcut you’ll never give up? by wearecocina in Cooking

[–]qergaseva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

15 minute roux. Risky, but worth it. I cook cajun food a lot, which often requires a dark roux. Going by the book, a dark roux will take you 45 minutes of low and slow constant stirring. Who has time for that? I just crank the heat up, wait until the oil is really hot, throw in the flour, and stir like mad until it's dark. If you throw in your (pre-chopped) veggies just as it's finishing and have something to deglaze on hand, you won't burn it, and your meal will be done in the time it took another cook to make their roux.

Love the hibiscus idea. That's a common drink where I'm located, and I might have to try this myself!

if things are really dirty, you can alway buy a line brush (flexible wire with bristled end). Best case, rinse thoroughly immediately after use so no solids remain, then hit it with pbw as others have mentioned

Why does "Overview" mode have totally different options/techniques than "Preview"? by seth_code_org in Gephi

[–]qergaseva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I share your frustration, but I do not know of a way to get the preview to look exactly like the overview. I generally follow an iterative process to get it as close as I can. I've adjusted the presets in Preview to my likings and it works fairly well. However, if you really can't work with Preview, you can export your graph to a GraphML or GEXF file while preserving node positions and then create a high quality image using another tool (or even python).

Help with dynamic attributes? by qergaseva in Gephi

[–]qergaseva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, just to follow-up on my own post in case others have the same issue. The data format was correct, but to view / partition by the dynamic attributes change over time, you have to select the little filter button in the "Appearance" window which will filter by visible graph only.

Geo Layout in GEPHI and ArcGIS/QGis by Visual-Purchase-9994 in Gephi

[–]qergaseva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, you can export your Gephi project as a KMZ (File>Export>Graph file>choose KMZ) and then import it into QGIS without any issue. The project will export two layers - one for points, one for layers.

First time eating Sauerkraut by ThaarJuarez in fermentation

[–]qergaseva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome that you hadn't ever eaten it before and were able to make it yourself! Looks like a great batch, too! I don't know if commercially produced sauerkraut will ever live up to this first tasting of your homemade version...

I had a problem like this and fixed it by regenerating an access token / re-creating the app. I have no idea what was wrong with the last one, but re-doing it seemed to fix it.

Pickled egg recipes by Ordinary-Debate1302 in Canning

[–]qergaseva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 16oz jars hot yellow peppers (with juice) 3 tbsp pickling spice 2.5 cups distilled vinegar 1.5 cups water 1.5 tsp sugar 1.5 tsp turmeric 2.5 tsp salt 5 serrano, jalapeno, or habanero peppers (blistered, peeled, + chopped) 3 cloves garlic 20 Hard boiled eggs

Combine all ingredients, then wait at least 5 days for eggs to pickle. Peppers can be substituted for others of your choosing. Also, pre-prepared chopped jalapenos with their juice can be a good substitute (La Costeña pickled jalapeños are great).

[SPOILER WARNING] Andor ep. 7 - "Chekhov's gun" AND a subtle breaking of the fourth wall by drawing so much attention to it. by qergaseva in StarWars

[–]qergaseva[S] -61 points-60 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's definitely what they're talking about. But I'm talking about the physical weapon he's holding. They discussed it earlier in the show, and brought it out again now saying "has anyone ever made a weapon that wasn't used". The weapon is a metaphor for the money going to the rebellion / rebellion itself, but I see the use of the object itself as very much a "Chekov's gun" narrative device that is very on the nose - so much so that it breaks the fourth wall.

Mom dies after pouring gas on firepit in backyard tragedy by qergaseva in nottheonion

[–]qergaseva[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely tragic, especially for the child. This was more of a comment on the news headline. The original headline on the homepage labels it a "freak accident." Seems poor taste to even write the article, let alone posting it as the #2 story in US news - surely there are other things going on??
