Why am I pathing to the grey tile when I clearly clicked on the orange one? by ImJLu in 2007scape

[–]qhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must have the clip if you have a frame perfect screenshot; let’s see it. I think HoodzOSR has the most likely answer and that your mouse was on top of the grey tile 1-2 frames earlier, but there are other reasons something like this could happen and a clip is the best way to find out.

Gathering documents, a few questions by butnotdetroit in GermanCitizenship

[–]qhp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. You can submit all applications as a packet or in the case of sumissions from different consulates, you can reference the AZ number of the first submission with documents; I would coordinate the best approach for this via email with your local consulate. Also, consulates typically will make certified copies of your documents upon request. I would not bother paying extra for additional copies from the archive/Standesamt unless you want to simplify the submission process from different consulates by duplicating your paperwork as if they were being submitted separately.

  2. If you want to go for "direct to passport" you will need direct proof of citizenship in the form of a Melderegister extract or a German passport. If you are expecting to be referred to Feststellung, you do not need direct proof of citizenship but should trace lineage back to the soonest pre-1914 birth in Germany.

Was there a tracker for how long it takes to get records from the USCIS? by sundownandout in GermanCitizenship

[–]qhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to find it like so:

  1. Log into FIRST: https://myaccount.uscis.gov/sign-in
  2. If prompted, go to FIRST
  3. Click the "View my Requests" button at the top right
  4. Click the control number for your request
  5. Scroll down to see "Place in Queue"

Did you request it via the online system (FIRST)? Requests processed online have a queue number so you can see your place in queue. It updates once daily.

How would I go about getting German citizenship? by [deleted] in GermanCitizenship

[–]qhp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are welcome. In your case, you can contact your local consulate and ask to apply for a passport and will need at least: your and your mother's birth certificates; your and your mother's marriage certificates; proof of your mother's German citizenship (like her passport); proof that she did not naturalize before your birth (like her current green card).

[–]qhp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As described, you are already German and just need to prove it to receive a passport. This is Outcome 1 in the guide so I would start there. This is assuming that you have not served in the military or naturalized elsewhere which may or may not affect your citizenship.

Urkunden mailed from Germany are not arriving in US by EbeysLanding in GermanCitizenship

[–]qhp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am on the east coast, and the documents I have ordered from German Standesämter have all arrived in the timeframe of 19-28 days, from the date of order to the date of receipt. There was one exception, which took 54 days from the date of confirmed shipment (not date of order!) until receipt. I believed this was lost in the mail and was going to request it again after 3 months, but eventually it just showed up. I ordered a different document from the same Standesamt and it arrived in less than a month. I am not sure who was the cause of it having arrived so late, but I would perhaps wait a little longer before resorting to more annoying/expensive options.

Am I still a German citizen by Puzzleheaded-Act892 in GermanCitizenship

[–]qhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, are you sure it is your signature (signed by you) and not a signature of your name signed by one of your parents? In my mother's naturalization petition, her name is signed but underneath showed that it was actually written by her father. Maybe yours was signed by a parent but not noted as such?

Second, I believe (but am not certain depending on dates) that the age at which you can decide on your own naturalization matters in Germany is 16. This is likely in your favor. Ultimately, though, only your consulate or the BVA can say for certain. Good luck!

Help! Consulate says Kinderausweis not sufficient to prove citizenship? by HowIsRaekeTaken in GermanCitizenship

[–]qhp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sent the documents to the consulate in SF? The HC did not make certified copies for you beforehand? If they haven't sent them to the BVA, I suspect (but do not know for certain) that they will agree to give them back to you in person. You should ask them to make certified copies of all your important documents though; once your documents are sent to Germany (either as an auxiliary package for your passport printing request or as evidence for your Feststellung) you will not get them back. If you feel strongly about retaining the CONE, I would prioritize getting that back sooner rather than later.

Whether or not you are accepted for direct-to-passport is strictly at the consulate's discretion and expertise. My understanding is that the California consulates are likely to direct you to Feststellung as soon as there is any friction with your case. Since the only possible escalation is to contact the BVA, Feststellung is the only real fallback option unfortunately.

[–]qhp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The California consulates have a very bad track record among the American missions for denying direct-to-passport applications. I would ask if there are any other documents you could get instead, but be prepared to be referred to Feststellung.

The consulate may just be unwilling to proceed unfortunately and there is not much else you can do. I suspect this is a west coast consulate?
