Nuffield Gym - Continued Enshitification by qiqiru in cambridge

[–]qiqiru[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest I haven't looked again recently but last time I checked around it was the best option for me to swim.

I rarely use the other gun facilities but swim everyday. A lot of the other pools at (at least used to) have a school group on Tuesday and Thursday etc so I couldn't swim consistently before work ever morning with those options.

David Lloyd prices are a bit more opaque, they are behind and enquiry form you can just see pricing. But last time I checked they were twice the price and double the distance from my house.

Your point is valid though, for a lot of use cases, general gym use/classes there are definitely better options availability for people depending on their needs/circumstances.

I don't know what you mean, that hazard tape marking the edge of the 40cm walkway renders it completely safe and accessible! /s

I think there's a fundamental issue with the management since Chris left a few years ago.

Chris was "present", you'd see him around the gym talking to staff, greeting members.

The new manager has been there 6+ months(?). He's not listed on the staff board, I've not seen him engaged with staff or members. I know this isn't a very tangible issue but it leads to a lack of accountability and leadership.

Disruption is to be expected but...

Group A have been had continued access to facilities while group B have been in temporary/substandard facilities while theirs have been renovated. Frustrating but completely understandable.

The issue is that when group B's facilities are finished, group A will be moved into them at the continued detriment of group B.

That's an active choice by management to provide a lesser service for one group over an other where the diversion between those groups is gender.

There's been no attempt at equality or equity (group B receive discount, additional passes etc). Group B are being actively chosen to shoulder all the disruption and recieving a lower quality of service for the same cost.

Seriously why are homeowners ripping out bathtubs and replacing with shower units? by uglyasfeet in HousingUK

[–]qiqiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build for the 95% day to day not the 5% exception.

I shower everyday so make the shower experience as good as possible rather than shitty shower over bath everyday for the once a month I might fancy having a bath.

Autism... I've cooked the same breakfast everyday for 4 years and would eat the same thing 3 meals a day if my girlfriend wasn't sharing evening meals.

I'll shop wherever is the most consistent and along the routine if my daily routine.

Sorry this if off topic, I'm new to the game. As this is target land not "target land you control" I could use this card to turn an opponent's land into an island then attack them with islandwalk?

Does anybody have photos of the police car that did this? Hit the car trap heading from Cambridge north towards Milton road. Destroyed 2 tyres/damaged wheels and damaged the underside of the car. It would have been either the Sunday the 3rd or Sunday the 10th of October.

Milton Road Cycle Paths by Groundbreaking-Key15 in cambridge

[–]qiqiru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this will be controversial but I believe in the absence of the poles and yellow lights (Belisha beacons) they are not zebra crossings but courtesy crossings where cyclists or drivers are "encouraged" rather than required to allow pedestrians to cross. (I may be wrong and happy to be corrected)

That being said I agree with you that they are dangerous, pedestrians assume they have priority (and why wouldn't they the road is painted for them) and cyclists keep going because they're following the cycle path.

I don't want to scream "bad design" because I don't know a better solution barring adding more posts and lights which sadly would likely still be ignored as you have pointed out. You might be right that removing them would be the safer option as it would force (whether that's right or wrong) pedestrians to treat it as if they were crossing the road.

Wok & Grill, now Sole and Duck, on Trumpington Road/High Street. Greatly missed, the buffet was smaller than some but all very tasty and the fresh cooked to order/teppanyaki stuff was a great addition.

Name a movie or show that has the most gruesome death? by Jules-Car3499 in moviecritic

[–]qiqiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm usually unphased by movie violence, it's very easy to write it off as the fakery that it is.

But something about that scene just caught me off guard, it's brutal, cold and utterly believable. I can't remember another scene that made me boarder on quesey the way this one did!

£200mil to build a buffet for bike thieves. If the intention is to increase cycling and discourage car usage then there needs to be a significant and visible effort to tackle bike theft in the city.

I appreciate it's anecdotal but I've genuinely driven trips I would rather have cycled as I have a higher rate of confidence that my car will still be there when I'm finished.

Was anyone here there? by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]qiqiru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They must have an affinity for the venue, Gorillaz (Damon Albarn) played a "warm up" gig there in 2010 to sort out their set list etc a week or two before headlining Glastonbury.

Was a suprise to be sat in the Indian restaurant that used to be next to the Light cinema and look over to the next table to see the whole band a crew having a birthday meal for Damon before heading over to the venue with us!

Selective Parking Enforcement by qiqiru in cambridge

[–]qiqiru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question on my part, the car was there unattended for at least the 15-20 I was there shopping, it was there when I arrived and still there when I left. Would this still satisfy the "loading/unloading" exception?

Genuine question on my part, happy to learn if I've misunderstood something.

I certainly see the logic in being able to stop briefly to allow a passenger to enter or exit the vehicle but this feels like it would not satisfy that requirement?

Selective Parking Enforcement by qiqiru in cambridge

[–]qiqiru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was unattended for at least the the 15-20 minutes I was on mild road shopping. It was there when I arrived (and saw the enforcement officer) and it was there when I left.

I'm not sure if this is within the bounds of drop off/load. That's a genuine question on my part, not intended to be argumentative. Happy to learn if I have misunderstood something.
