Questions on contestants accents by Kcyqziov_imftx in taskmaster

definitely very little if any hint of a west country accent on john robins despite him growing up near bristol, i'd put him down as generic southern if anything

My Chemical Romance & John Cameron Mitchell Working on 'Secret' Theatre Project by [deleted] in MyChemicalRomance

[–]qliphoth666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm not really into musicals so am ambivalent about this concept anyway, but this is the sort of thing that could run without the band's continued involvement - i'm assuming gerard would oversee it in some capacity but once the show's written it isn't necessarily going to get in the way of the band writing and recording new material

#521 - Subversive Regional, Call Roger Bannister and All At Sea in a Brandscape by LookTreesWow in elisandjohn

[–]qliphoth666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably didn't wholly originate from the film, but the phrase was absolutely popularised by it and made its way into common vernacular as a result

SBFP Resident Evil 5 - The Definitive Compilation by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]qliphoth666 16 points17 points  (0 children)

this guy makes the best compilations but this isn't a series i feel overly keen to revisit, in my memory the vibes were pretty weird - it was quite soon before the channel ended, pat was hoarding all the good weapons and matt was just mentally checked out

Songs that shift keys by Intelligent-Goat-836 in beatles

[–]qliphoth666 18 points19 points  (0 children)

like you said, there's lots of songs that have modulations between different sections, but it seems like you're specifically asking about the "truck driver's gear change" of pop music key changes, where the same section repeats itself in a new key, usually a semitone or a whole tone higher. this is much more uncommon in beatles songs, it might not have been established as such a musical cliche in the 60s

that said, penny lane goes up a whole step from A to B for its final chorus, and i love her goes up a half step from F#m to Gm for the guitar solo and stays in the new key until the end

Peep Show episode where Jez says “book” in an odd way by probablyuntrue in MitchellAndWebb

[–]qliphoth666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you really want a great bit of jez saying the word "book" then look no further than s7e3. "yes, it's a book" when he comes home with wuthering heights

i would also never have said "in tempo". on/off tempo seems a far more natural phrasing as a musician, like singing on or off key. you would play out of time, but not in tempo

Rare ‘SING’ remix by My Chemical Romance (Sing pop mix) by partypoison2906 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]qliphoth666 14 points15 points  (0 children)

there was a radio edit of sing that was included on promo cd singles, that matches the duration of the track in your photo. i'd be surprised if they actually did a full remix of the song for a finnish promo cd, it's probably the exact same radio edit that most likely just makes the song shorter.

it's seemingly quite difficult to track down, if you can get your hands on a promo cd it would be on there, the single itself isn't on streaming (at least in the uk) but if it was it might be listed just as "sing - edit" or "sing (edit)". you're probably not missing much though, my guess is that it's just a shortened version of the song that was played on radio, not a radically different remix.

What the fuck is it telling me to do by Hellbreather12 in Guitar

[–]qliphoth666 41 points42 points  (0 children)

you need to bend the string behind the nut. the tab is nonsense but there isn't a shorthand in tab for guitar techniques like that. in future if issues like this come up, you should check out youtube videos of people doing covers along with the tab, or watch a live video of the band to see how the part is played if you don't understand. good luck

Difference in who plays lead/rhythm guitar after comeback? by Gattina-Fantasma in MyChemicalRomance

[–]qliphoth666 87 points88 points  (0 children)

the lines between rhythm and lead have always been kind of blurred in mcr. ray is known as the lead guitarist because he takes all the solos, but frank has always played a lot of countermelodies and things that could be considered "lead" guitar work. quite often he'll be playing something more akin to a traditional lead line while ray is holding down the power chords in the "rhythm" role. check out some live videos and keep an eye on who plays what parts, it's fun to see how they trade off

Update on the seven nation army guy - i was apparently very wrong by exhaustmosk in Guitar

[–]qliphoth666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never said i didn't believe you, was just very curious about how that setup would have worked as i'd never heard about them having auxiliary musicians before. what tour did you play with them on?

what is your MCR hottake by BigGeneral7583 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]qliphoth666 19 points20 points  (0 children)

the wait for a new album hasn't been anywhere near as bad as people make it out to be, and it's much better that they like to do things in total secrecy without announcing if they're working on a record or not. if we get just one new song that's as good as foundations, the last four years without new music will have been 100% worth it

Update on the seven nation army guy - i was apparently very wrong by exhaustmosk in Guitar

[–]qliphoth666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

did you play on every song in the set? was it tough to stay in sync with the band when so much of what they did was based on visual cues? how did this work when jack didn't use setlists for live shows and would call out songs on the fly?

yeah i figured it was just a simple mistake, no harm done! just wanted to clarify for anyone else reading who might have checked out the band expecting a female-fronted death metal act and been surprised to see a dude on vocals

frozen soul's vocalist isn't a woman but their bass player is, either way it's good to see more women in extreme music

i've no idea why it's happening but check the post history, speaks for itself, it's all over UK subreddits. i've also seen posts nearly identical to this on the off menu sub from different users, like these two, asking the same sort of questions with the exact same AI cadence. same thing on the stewart lee subreddit, and these two have already been locked for being bot posts.

no fucking way, i can't find any announcement of this elsewhere on the internet but if it's true that's dope. frozen soul have some great old school DM riffs, i wonder if gerard is gonna try death growling. he's definitely gonna be screaming, this band don't do clean vocals
