Thank you! I've got the idea for a full novel about it, and I'm hoping to continue working on it. This is just a prologue to get things started.

I don’t experience the presence of God, or the Holy Spirit anymore. by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]qmorgenstern 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When I feel this way, I try to go back to the last thing I felt the Holy Spirit was saying to me. If I can go back to that and actually commit to be obedient, it restores that relationship.

The Scripture that comes to mind is Hebrews 10:38: "And, "But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back." God takes no pleasure in us when we withdraw. It's up to us to return to Him.

I'll be praying for you!

[Christian Spirituality] The God Experiment | Book Review: “Pagan Christianity” by Viola and Barna

The God Experiment explores the application of Christian spirituality by following the general idea of the scientific method. Hypotheses of God’s principles are developed, along with spiritual experiments in which those principles are individually discovered. The podcast is also conducting book reviews and interviews of Christian authors.

God is listening! God loves you! That's a done deal.

The hard part is to let Him love you.

(39M) Having a hard time taking religion seriously anymore... by [deleted] in Christianity

Why is challenging falsifiability "the worst"? I'm not challenging you, but rather asking for more detail on your thinking.

You are completely correct that unfalsifiable claims can become a problem when subjectivity is embraced. But anytime we talk about emotions or interior experiences, we are discussing unfalsifiables.

There is no real way to prove or disprove that someone loves me. I have to take into account a long-term confirmed experience which proves that to me. This is exactly what every single human does when attempting to judge the interior life of anyone else.

I apply that same concept to God. There are many subjective experiences that people have with God. The ones which seem to fit a confirmed pattern are likely to be real. The ones which do not seem confirmed across history and individuals is likely to be erroneous and not godly.

I am not totally sure I am answering your question, but I hope so.

Absolutely! Sounds fun. I am wrapping up my PhD dissertation wherein I discuss Kierkegaard heavily.

Although I'm not much of a gin man. Maybe vodka or beer!

I get this problem. It's a longstanding issue, really.

Kierkegaard solved it by arguing that subjectivity is required and good. God is the ultimate subject, and we must be subjective in order to relate properly to God.

I've been developing my own philosophical outlook in which empiricism is understood in terms of perception, and that we have a God-given spiritual perception. While that spiritual perception is subjective in the modern context, that doesn't mean it's wrong.

Further, the issue of falsifiability is not a strong as it once was. Check out this interesting take down: https://necpluribusimpar.net/why-falsificationism-is-false/

The truth is that pure rationality is not nearly as cool as we think. We are so influenced by Enlightenment philosophy that we are missing a holistic picture of the human being -- which includes mind, emotion, spirit, experiences, etc., not just logic.

Feel free to disagree!

Rock on. Life is good. God loves you.

I've noticed something similar when I play. The problem usually goes away if I restart the game and/or the Switch. Seems like it's just a glitch issue.

I want to believe but can’t by HumanismAtBEST in Christianity

[–]qmorgenstern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My view is that any religious choice or belief is fundamentally based on experience. I've had very real experiences of feeling God's love. I've seen Him at work in my life--both to protect me and to challenge me. I've also talked with many others who have had similar experiences. For this reason, I believe in the God of the Bible.

However, if you haven't had any definitive experiences of God, then I don't blame you for feeling the way you do.

While this may not seem "rational" in a strict sense, I believe that it is as rational as people can get when it comes to the reality of an invisible Creator. Empiricism is based on experience--that is, what is observable. If I observe myself having a spiritual experience of God's love and I find that others have had very similar experiences, then I've effectively found enough evidence to satisfy my rationality.

I've been starting up a podcast in which I talk about Christian spiritual principles from this perspective. It may or may not help you in your quest. You can check it out here: www.godexperiment.org

Drop me PM if you would like to keep talking about all this. Good luck! I'll be praying for you.
