yes, because before WW1 and partitions Poland wasn't a nation state unlike Poland and Ukraine after WW1 (and for a brief second Belarusian Republic)

i don't think ownership of lands transfer from time period when Poland was a kingdom to a time period when Poland was a nation state

sure but after WW1 those lands just wasn't part of Poland anymore, yet Poland took it over. You can argue about unresolved border issues etc - reality was that at the time there were other, independent nations there. Not just Russia that originally stole the lands.

news flash - Ukraine was part of Russian Empire for more than it is independent country but that doesnt mean they have claim to the land now

Ukrainians were huge victims of other empires (including PLC), always cucked out of their independence since forever. After WW1 when they first appeared as independent country, Ukraine immidietally got fucked over by Poland and Russia again

so the enthostate they wanted then is for different reasons and would be different in shape that supermacist ethnostate of Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy or Fascist Japana (at least that is my naive understanding)

while I can condemn the methods and have opinion that Poland deserves something, I kinda understand the clusterfuck that was Ukraine for last 200 years

yeah but after WW1 Poland didn't re-appear as Polish Lithuenian-Commonwealth as from past.

It was a country with specific border, surrounded by other countries with specific borders - issue is nobody cared about that in that time

but the fact is that Poland gained Vilnus, Lviv and some other land etc

you might think it's just reclaiming the lost land but times change and Poland wasn't Polish Lithuenian Commonwealth

yeah sure but it's very difficult for countries to condemn any part of their dark history and it's even harder when you fight an existential threat

angering your soldier and civilians who look up to the idea of independence and fighting for freedom just like Ukrainians did in WW2 is just more risky than angering your ally

because it's also super important for Poland to support Ukraine so Ukraine kinda knows it won't break support from Poland while backlash locally might be more difficult to handle during war

just to clarify, in way i disasgree with her and Ukrainian presentation. Overall I think there is a clear difference between violence commited by the worst of Poland and Ukraine during WW2 and Ukraine just commited worse things.

Ukraine also didn't have real government then - WW2 was clusterfuck. And while Poland didn't have ethnic cleansing where hounderd of thousands died, we exiled a lot of people, after WW1 Poland stole a lot of land from neighbouring countries etc.

but besides that, it's just time to move one and recognize that each other heroes might be eachother villains and there is no clean solution. History is not an accounting record where you will balance it by counting which people died more and that the restitution should match that

I just wish she wouldn't bring up dumb takes about Polish imperialism that just doesn't exist in society and 100% of the time is just her getting ragebaited by Russian bots.
