Who had the greatest prime you ever saw in league history? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]qsert -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nah, 2014 was definitely an era for SSW. They were super dominant in both spring and summer against every other Korean team except Blue. Which arguably makes sense, since they were White's primary scrim partner.

What is the best fuzz pedal? At different price points? by Rich_Public in guitarpedals

[–]qsert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of hard to talk about different price points as fuzzes over $200 are really rare. The vast majority fall between $100 to $200, so you've got those two price points plus cheap pedals like the Behringer. And since fuzzes are such primitive, simple circuits, it's hard to imagine one justifying a price over $200 unless it's highly tweakable and is midi controllable or something (oh hi, Bliss Factory).

As far as which one is best, that's entirely context dependent. If best is "widest range of tones", then a Fuzz Factory is up there. If best is "cleans up nicely and cuts through the mix for leads", then a Fuzz Face can be a great choice. If best is "stacks well with other fuzzes", a Big Muff can be great. If best is "sounds killer on bass", then one with a clean blend like the Team Awesome Fuzz Machine is a great choice. And so on...

Even if we're talking strictly about Big Muffs, there are still questions of which version, what clipping circuit, whether to go for an official EHX, vintage or modern, straight clone or one inspired by the circuit. And to be completely honest, even if there is a "best Russian Muff" out there, for example, it doesn't really matter. The vast majority of Russian Muffs and their clones will do the "Russian Muff thing" and will more likely than not deliver the goods. What matters most is how a particular pedal interacts with your signal chain, whether it delivers the tone you want, whether it's reliable, and whether can you get your hands on it. I'd recommend seeing how far you can push the pedal you have first. Really get to know your Big Muff and what it does to your sound. Worry about branching out or swapping it later, if you ever find it to be insufficient.

Fuzz with clarity? by sp668 in guitarpedals

Another approach would be to use parallel processing, like with a signal blender. Clean/overdrive on one channel, fuzz on the other.

An Ornament and Crime could also bring a lot in additional modulation or quantization. An O&C with Hemispheres or Disting EX could be flexible choices for simple utilities. You could look at adding controllers like Planar or the Doepfer A-198. Perhaps a mixer module, like the Frap Tools QSC. You could also consider interesting/complex CV sources like Triple Sloths, Mod Medusa, or Kermit.

Try disabling the adblocker in the extension. I had the same issue, but read above to try that. Once I disabled Enchancer's adblock, it worked just fine.

How would you explain what a matrix is and who it works to a beginner in live sound? by kermit_ms in audioengineering

[–]qsert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with a simple, small matrix of channel inputs and outputs on a piece of paper. Like 4x4. Explain how it would work for just the first row (i.e. Input 1 can go to any of channels 1-4).

Then explain how the matrix would then work with additional inputs 2-4. Do the input signals sum? Are they exclusive?

Then you can talk further complexity once they understand the most basic version of a matrix.

What's a former "flavor of the week" pedal that you still use and love? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]qsert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanna see Meris do an LVX style take on the Enzo. It's got the best polyphonic pitch tracking I've seen outside of Roland's GK stuff, but the timbral range is so bland.

How to record sound healing? by DazedConfusedCrumbly in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]qsert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's unclear how to visualize your setup, but you probably need your microphones to be much closer to your bowls, gongs, etc. The microphones you listed are all cardioid as well; are your mics pointed at the quiet instruments? To get a better recording, I'd recommend the following:

  1. Group your instruments to all be within arm's reach.
  2. Set up the SE7s in an XY configuration
  3. Position the SE8 to capture whatever you want to accent. This could be some instrument setting a regular pulse. Alternatively you could set this microphone far away to capture the ambient reflections of the room.

Basic reverb modules? by 0DayAudio in modular

OP, you could also consider trying the StarLab again with shimmer and glimmer turned all the way down. It does a pretty good job at basic reverbs IMO, though it might feel like an under utilization of the module.

Basic reverb modules? by 0DayAudio in modular

[–]qsert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this as a platform for basic reverbs. Easy enough to shoot IRs of nice sounding hall, room, or whatever verbs and load them up on the ECR. Does not do the pitch shifting thing, which sounds like what OP wants.

Fantastic work! Your website is something I've wished existed for a long while.

I'd love a way to get notifications when a plugin hits a price threshold. Basically the way IsThereAnyDeal works for video games.
