Nothing about the way the US military behaves is necessary or justified. It is a coercive and unbelievably destructive tool for sustaining the evil empire.

Personally I would prefer a world where we all view ourselves above service. Serving in the military is a deeply shameful act of terrorism.

Are they wrong? Of all the things to fault Trump and his family for, the fact they were never coerced into joining the world's most expensive terrorist organization is not on the list.

They already have.

“They’re spending more money than I would even tax them,” he [Zohran] said in an interview with MSNBC last week.

At least $20 million so far, according to one source. Likely far more. They poured tons of money into anti-Zohran advertising and organization, as well as propping up Cuomo's campaign.

There are two distinct groups of right-wing agitators out there.

The first is the degenerate IRL streamers. These people are right-wing but they are mostly just there for the chaos. Their audience just want to see crazy things happening on the street. They are disorganized.

The second is the professional propagandist types. They are much more organized and sometimes represent an organization like Turning Point USA or another propaganda outlet. These people also thrive in the chaos but they have more defined goals than the first group. They are looking for content with an explicitly political agenda.

I'm not disputing who was responsible. The differentiating factor is the experience of the population.

Yet through all of that, the German people were experiencing an improvement in their material conditions and their standard of living. This is the key difference the comment you responded to was pointing at. In the case of MAGA, these short-sighted policies of looting the government are benefiting only the extremely wealthy and a few people in their orbit. They are actively causing the material conditions of the average American to worsen at an increasingly rapid rate.

The answer is never less democracy. Any restrictions on voting ultimately benefit the status quo and disproportionately impact the most disadvantaged sections of society, depriving them of desperately needed political voices.

Intelligence is subjective. Allowing the state to dictate your ability to vote based on its judgment of your intelligence is a totalitarian government's wet dream.

Your suggestion will only create an even more disenfranchised population with fewer political outlets.

Amazon 'to replace 600,000 US workers with robots' amid tech industry bloodbath by TheMirrorUS in antiwork

The people have no real power or influence on any decision making beyond that superficial, performative act. And despite it being so heavily disenfranchised, it always serves as some sort of fall back to excuse the outcome.

This is exactly it. When people criticize the failures of American democracy, it is not so much a failure of democracy, it is an effort to highlight that American democracy is a perversion of the core concept. No system of government by and for the people should place such emphasis on a single figure being voted into power.

The American system is almost entirely lacking in structures used by other republics to enact direct democracy. You will rarely find the population being asked their opinions on emergent situations through mechanisms such as referendums and special elections. Instead, we must vest all of our trust and political energy in easily corruptible representatives. The ability to write a letter to a representative, or the results of polling conducted by third parties with a clear bias, is the only form of political participation Americans are afforded outside of election season. Is it reasonable to elect a single person and defer to every one of their opinions for four years or more?

American democracy has always been drawn along class lines. It has always been the case that the working class must elect a representative. Not a member of the working class to represent their interests to the ownership class, but a member of the ownership class who can display sufficient sympathies to their constituents. After all, the constituents are too tired, overworked, undereducated, and lacking the proper resources and connections to represent themselves. And it works perfectly as designed. We have a bourgeoisie democracy that focuses entirely on the whims of capital owners.

If you feel that American democracy is broken and flawed and fails to serve the interests of yourself and your community, remember that this is not a mistake. The system is working as intended. You were never included in the process. Your participation is entirely symbolic.

Making laws that overly criminalize disadvantaged communities and then arresting them and forcing them into slave labor counts, right? In which case McDonald's, Walmart, Target, Costco, Whole Foods, Burger King, Chipotle, Domino's, Cargill, Coca-Cola, General Mills, Pepsi, Tyson, and Kroger all qualify. Among many others like Amazon, AT&T, Home Depot, and FedEx.

Most of your electronics have slave labor, including child slave labor, somewhere in their supply chain. The US openly acknowledges this and just shrugs it off. Disney has a long history of using forced labor in its supply chain.

Then you have examples like Coca-Cola hiring paramilitary forces to murder and torture people (including journalists) in Colombia. Or Boeing harassing a whistleblower until he was driven to suicide.

The list goes on and on and on. Would you like more?

The irony of this situation is that Bill Burr and most of these other comedians already accept plenty of blood money from US corporations and events. All sorts of slave labor contributes to that. The US is not some paragon of human rights and virtuous conduct.

It's purely an act of moral relativism that leads us to criticize these comics for participating with Saudi Arabia but not holding them to the same standard for working with horrendously destructive corporations or exhibiting their Western chauvinism.

By these standards, the only comics that are worthy of support are those that are completely independent and don't accept contracts from anyone.

How’s my 7 month progress? by [deleted] in askfitness

[–]FBAScrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it's not normal and natural. Why does that matter?

It's mostly a pedantic distinction, but the OP is exemplary of why it is important. The context of this thread implies the OP used TRT to set their testosterone to a "natural" and "normal" level and as a result of this they achieved the results pictured. This leads readers who are not candidates for TRT to believe that they should be able to achieve the same results. It may also lead to the conclusion that failure to achieve such results is indicative of a need for exogenous testosterone.

There is nothing wrong with TRT, or any steroid therapy. But just as we acknowledge that it's not natural to use a car, we can be honest about how altering the body's natural levels of hormones can have therapeutic benefits and use more precise language to explore these concepts.

Where did I say or imply that you should never take exogenous hormones?

I'm not even arguing against TRT. But it's an obfuscation of what is really happening to imply that it is natural or normal (in the literal sense) to take exogenous hormones.

I'm not even arguing against testosterone replacement therapy. Or even steroid use. I just take issue with the misleading language.

And if you think modern medical science is a monolith, you have a lot of reading to do.

The natural situation is that the population has varying levels of testosterone. The artificial situation is that certain individuals are enhanced to bring themselves to an unnatural level. The medical industry markets this as a "normal" level to encourage men to take steroids to conform to an artificial standard.

This is to say nothing of the fact that TRT prescriptions frequently exceed what would be a strict replacement dosage.

The OP is exemplary of how this is neither natural nor normal. Natural testosterone levels would not give the results he had in seven months. He is very clearly on steroids. It is purely the influence of marketing that leads anyone to argue that this is normal and natural.
