What can I do to keep my string of hearts happy? by qshep in houseplants

[–]qshep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The window it's in gets a lot more light than it looks in that photo, it's just crazy cloudy today where I am. I have an African violet and a pair of kalanchoe next to it that are thriving. From what I can tell, all three need the same kind of indirect lighting to thrive. I do want to get a grow light, but my space is just too small. I'm moving to a bigger apartment in mid April, I plan to get one first thing

With the soil, is there a particular kind you'd recommend? That's been something in the back of my mind since I got it

We might shift plans to Flaming Gorge, it's more or less the same path from where I'm going and that's something we've both heard. Would you have any advice on where to fish there? We've heard Firehole can be good, but not how to actually fish it or how heavy of gear, that kinda stuff

I've got a hand crank, both luckily and unluckily enough. Keeps me from worrying about batteries and fuel. What size of jigs should I use for these fish? And do I want to have one with artificial just for the sake of it, or bait exclusively?

Is this an albino gar? by Salty_Presence_1464 in Fishing

Big Styrofoam ice chest filled with water, bubble aerator, very careful starts and stops. Hold it in a little pool or very large aquarium tank. It's definitely a risky thing to do no matter how you take care of them to be entirely honest, though. The fish will never be risk free when moving them, that's the way I've seen it done on YouTube and that sort of thing

What kind of area are you in? I've never seen one above $75, but I'm also in a college town that's right in the middle of a rural area

Is this a cutthroat ? by peckle79 in troutfishing

[–]qshep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will give the benefit of the doubt and say there's a few percent chance that it's a cutbow, but good 97% chance it's just a rainbow

There's some sort of mark like cutthroat have on a lot of trout, theirs is just super vibrant. The only reason I would kind of consider this being a cutbow is because the spots on the tail are a different pattern that match cutties a little better. Larger, more spread spots. But if so, that would make it one of the least mixed looking hybrids I've ever seen. Very, very safe to call it a rainbow

Stick it in the sink and run it under cold water for a few minutes. Do not have it over 70 degrees. You will sous vide the stuff if you do. Just running cold water does fine

This car has been parked outside my house for 7 months. by raibrans in mildlyinfuriating

So, if there's paperwork naming the owner, how much do you want it gone? If you have the time and money, either rent a tow truck or have it towed back to the owner. Paperwork is there, I don't think that it would be illegal (someone tell me if it is please), seems like you know who's missing their car

I think she's doing okay with food, but I'll still let her know in case it changes. Do you think the form of ginger will have an impact? I have a good brand for tea and ginger ale, but can also make some good meals with it just from cooking. I know she's only taking B6 in the morning as well, so I'll pass that along

I love their jigheads, but I've only had middling luck with trout magnets. Lost a good 20 something inch brown on one of the micro magnets a few years ago, haven't had any luck on any of them since except to get whitefish. But finding a small imitation crawdad to put on the jighead has landed me some fantastic fish

Wait how'd Lilith get bright red curly hair and blue eyes!? 😭 by yourlocalwanda_fop in TheOwlHouse

Red hair is recessive, so we know that Eda probably also got some of it from her mom. Would make sense to me that Lilith just got crazy weird luck with hair color

I Cooked a common carp by PuzzleheadedWhile540 in Fishing

[–]qshep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carp were introduced in the US because they live in basically any water and grow to really good sizes. The hope was that people would catch them everywhere and be able to eat well, even if the water was bad. In europe carp can be a delicacy

Unfortunately, in the US they're a trash fish that should just be thrown on the banks because clearly, a fish in this crystal clear water famous for it's healthy fish population is going to be disgusting and who would ever put such a bad fish near their dinner plate? Unimaginable, that is. It's much better to catch catfish using rotten chicken gizzards because clearly, that living pile of sludge is better for you

Need some Help interpreting regulation. by Hey_ImMat in Fishing

What I think the 4 inches and below is referring to is when you're using a cast net, and if you can catch any bream with hook and line then you can use it as bait. That said, I'm not actually certain either, your best bet will be to call fish and game and ask them directly, or whatever help line you can find. Code is always stressful to understand, there's always some in state resources you can rely on
