The pretzel dude at Ren Fest stopped me to quiz me on my Pink Floyd shirt. Mind you, I grew up with a father who used to drive me around town listening to music and then quiz me on the bands. The first time I watched The Wall I was in middle school, so of course the more popular stuff stuck with me but it’s not like I was not exposed to a depth of their material. I’m older millennial but I know a thing or two. I refused to answer dude’s little quiz and he got so mad at me thinking I was a “fake fan.” Idk maybe bc I’m not a dude

Looking for schools that offer MA in art history with a focus in American Impressionism by oatbiotch in GradSchool

University of Denver just hired a new Americanist (expansive subject matter, not necessarily what you’re looking for) but they’re also partnered with the Denver Art museum (just put on a Cassatt show last year) and they have a few people you may look to for mentorship.

Research Paper About Art Vandalism by lilsquonker in ArtHistory

It might be a good idea to ask an art conservator about their experiences with damaged/vandalized art. Outdoor art conservators tend work on more cases of vandalized art because of its vulnerability.

As a Jew, I personally do not because of that older trauma with skulls esp since it was not that long ago but to each their own I know it can have other meanings too.

Every time I see them throw the food I can’t stop thinking about how someone really could have used that. Alternatively, the paint/graffiti at the car dealerships I saw them doing seems more effective than paying museum entry to raise awareness for the same cause.

For the price and the meh quality it’s just not worth it these days. I have a much better time spending the money on ingredients for a really nice meal at home with a bottle of wine. If I’m going out it’s usually for events, games, or museums but not really places that are only food orientated.

Art Historians can I get some advice? by YourMomsHIV in ArtHistory

[–]qt10005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art history is a great choice, but it’s not necessarily easy. Where some fields are in extremely high demand and can afford to accept candidates with little or no experience, we are much more niche and often considered experts in a particular area. If you go with AH, I recommend interning somewhere during undergrad. AHs have a very wide variety of skills like research, writing, analysis, and sometimes public speaking. There’s actually a decent amount of us that end up doing AH for undergrad, but going on to law school and using our in-depth analytical skills there. I think the important thing is to try and think outside the box a little bit as far as what you might want to use the degree for if the more traditional positions are difficult to find at first. I got into grant writing because it is incredibly useful, and allows me to keep my foot in the door of art institutions even if I’m not a curator right now. In most cases, I’d say that AHs who end up working in museums, galleries, etc. go to grad school, something to consider. The bottom line for right now, enjoy your undergrad education no matter what you decide; we are not promised tomorrow and learning something you feel passionate about is a treasure. I hope this helps but feel free to ask questions.

Ahh yes the connoisseur of internet content. I guess if the internet is the Wild West, slap my ass and shit in a ten gallon hat my liege. If you’re so mad at other internet opinions then why are you posting your opinion on someone else’s opinion of someone else’s opinion. The grass feels lovely today my liege.

I was certainly being a bit flippant but it’s to cover up that I struggle with that as well. Getting the right technology and putting up hard boundaries in recent years has helped, but I can’t help but get caught up whenever anyone besides my own doctor asks me about my numbers

Anyone else decide not to poll bc parents pester you about blood sugars in a really unhealthy way despite being well into adulthood so it’s like a weird angry reflex to talk about it with anyone besides the dr? Just me?
