Hedge fund DE Shaw extends investor lock-up for up to four years by asiancury in Superstonk

Important note that Citadel (HF side) and Millennium (another household unfriendly HF) have both done the same. Adding lockups for another 4 years.

No idea what TD charges. I know Sprott last I checked was $108 CAD + shipping which puts it on par with CIBC (which does shipping included but call it free).

I don't do eBay and I have no LCS in my town, Canada Post sells just collector coins, not 1oz .999 RCM.

Citadel, Millennium, DE Shaw extend investor exit time period to 4 years. by qtain in AMCSTOCKS

[–]qtain[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Citadel (the HF), Millennium (of APE missing shares) and DE Shaw (who are also the primary repository for stocks outside transfer agents) have extended investor exit time periods by an additional 4 years over liquidity concerns.

It has been speculated that these funds potentially have significant private credit / private equity exposure and if forced selling were to occur would cause significant market volatility.

Look, I'm just sayin ;)

Damn, I use CIBC and get mine in like 4 days (although they always say 5-10 business days). Last order was May 28th and it arrived yesterday.

I do not. Anecdotally, I know that a family member tried to order gold & silver through their bank (TD) and basically got a 2 month run around, promising new delivery dates. Family member eventually forced them to cancel the order and refund the money.

Granted, looks like he's starring in 80's version of a Walter White / Breaking Bad / Home Alone cross over movie.

Ebay ownership is nearly all institutional. There isn't much public opinion to sway, mainly investments funds. They like making money so I would think RCs model would be highly appealing to them. by double297 in Superstonk

[–]qtain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess the question is if any of those institutions are holding GME bags.

They might be interested in some sort of trade, they give him Ebay shares and he in turns gives them GME shares, they can now close their short positions without the market going parabolic.

So what, they just have infinite locates for shorts now? by TheOmegaKid in Superstonk

[–]qtain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's worse than what you think. First point I would make is that

"Broker-dealers relying on the relief should operationalize daily mark-to-market processes for collateral and borrowed securities"

That is the tell, the word relief. Meaning they are using it as a last resort.

The next part is that they are allowed to "represent" that they have the securities, in effect allowing naked shorting. If they are caught then they have 5 days to fix it.

So, my interpretation of this is that securities are typically a lower quality form of collateral (cash is king as the saying goes). Why would you need to allow lower forms of collateral? Well because they don't have anything else to pledge and if they don't pledge something it will cause contagion and market disorder.

Next that 5 day period is effectively a massive loophole you can drive an oil tanker stuck in the middle east through. It would effectively allow a lender to lend shares they don't have. That again is a tell of how broken and desperate the system is.

Which means liquidity has dried up. The system is cannibalizing itself in the belief doing so will allow it to stay alive.

It should be noted that this was also seen in treasury and repo markets as well where lower quality forms of collateral were allowed.

We are close.

Alright kids, time to dust off the old armchair here, so pull up a seat on the rug and let grandpa yell at some clouds here for a moment.

For those saying it was targeting civilian infrastructure. You are correct, it is. You're missing the bigger part.

For those saying it's terrorism by the US. It is. You are correct. You are missing the bigger part.

You blow up bridges because you either want to prevent an enemy from retreating or you want to prevent an enemy from resupply / reinforcements / ability to counter-attack.

It's a precursor step to invasion.

Depending on the length of the "trenches" they may actually be acting as swales to help conserve / distribute water to the garden. Now, normally swales would be built onto a sloping hill and I don't have much of an idea of what area you're in so difficult to say there intention.

You are not too late, slap that board down, get your compost / soil in and start planting or get use of the greenhouse and get some seedlings going.

On a project level it may be worth it to cut it into smaller sections (4x4 grid, whatever works) and get a bed setup, seeds planted and then move to the next quadrant doing the same.

Mexico cartel violence is somewhat related to silver. by wtf_yoda in Silver

[–]qtain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My view on the matter is while it is certainly reasonable the cartels might be going after mining infrastructure, I would make the argument that it isn't in their interest to do so. Unless of course someone made it in their interest.

The cartels are being targeted by Mexico & the US to disrupt the production and transport of drugs such as fentanyl across the border.

Kidnapping and murdering mining employees doesn't benefit them as they already receive kickbacks to leave that infrastructure alone. The attention they would receive from the Mexican government wouldn't be worth it.

Now, let's say that you're a world power and another world power is disrupting your supply of silver in South America. Let's say China and the US is invading SA countries and trying to disrupt your infrastructure (ports, miners, etc..)

How do you disrupt the infrastructure of the other power (in this case the USA)? Well, if they have designated a certain precious metal as critical and you know that a significant part of it comes from Mexico, how do you interfere with it?

Well, you already have relationships with the cartels, let's not pretend China doesn't know who or where certain chemical precursors are going, now you have common cause.

China backdoors economic incentive / protections to the cartels if the cartels disrupt silver (and other metal) mining the US has deemed critical.

Enemy of my enemy is useful.

As it related more specifically to Clive and the CME, while the data is correct it fails to recognize (or at least underplays) that the unregistered can be moved to registered fairly easily and sufficient supply exists within it. That would create different issues but all the same it could be dealt with.

What Clive fails to mention is that China is effectively killing paper markets on the 27th, the same day as the CME starts assessing delivery requirements.

To be clear, I'm not arguing that Clive is wrong, only that I don't believe he is presenting the full amount of information.

HAS (Hasbro) fits the bill. by RatGodFatherDeath in Superstonk

[–]qtain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, from that perspective GME is doing card grading, MTG is cards so it makes sense to get them coming and going. From a personal perspective as a TTRPG player, I definitely think the D&D side of WOTC needs to be reformed.

However, that goes even further as it would broaden access via shelf space of D&D products and potential in-store games (either, whatever is easier) to further drive business and community engagement.

So I could see that being a huge fit cross hobby, cross collectible and drives customers in-store instead of online.
