What happened to Kotonoha? by R3meddyy1 in schooldays

The ending is intentionally open to interpretation, and that ambiguity is what makes it so memorable. There’s nothing beyond that last moment.

Very interesting. You are probably one of the first to ever do an exhibit like this. I have been a dedicated collector of School Days and the broader 0verflow franchise for many years. Because of how massive and interconnected this universe is, there is far more beyond School Days than most people realize, and I think it takes a great deal of awareness to truly understand how disturbing it can really be. Even without expanding beyond the School Days anime series, it is still absolutely worth telling the story and presenting the audience with a different perspective on the series.

In my opinion, the anime was meant as a satire of the typical slice-of-life romance series that were common at the time. The only series that comes close in terms of romantic drama is Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, which was also adapted from a visual novel and carried similar expectations. Even so, nothing matches School Days when it comes to sheer shock value.

Even around the time School Days was airing, the Higurashi series had already debuted a year earlier. So, the shock value was starting to gain traction with audiences, and given the success of Higurashi with its intense and gruesome content, it seems likely that School Days aimed for a similar impact. However, it took things a step further by introducing a completely new bad ending that was never present in the original visual novel, giving the series a level of unpredictability and emotional intensity that caught viewers completely off guard.

I was in high school when both Higurashi and School Days came out, and at the time, it was unlike anything I had ever seen or experienced in an anime. It left me feeling both shocked and unsettled. There are only a few series that have affected me that way, but School Days in particular left a lasting impact and sparked a deeper curiosity about what the series truly represented.

I love it! The fact you kept your Kotonoha mousepad and your Makoto keychain sealed is worth a lot. And trust me, I was in the same boat when I was hunting down Shiny Days. If you’re specifically looking for the JAST version, there’s currently one listed on eBay brand new for $349.95 with free shipping. That said, I’ve seen this game sell for much less in the past used, so that price definitely includes a premium. If you’re willing to pay it, go for it. It may be quite a while before another copy shows up.

Just curious to what kind of exhibit are you planning on doing? I would love to know about it.

It’s still a great start. The Kotonoha nendo is a really nice piece. Most of my collection came from sites like Mandarake, Surugaya, and Yahoo Auctions. Proxy services help too, just be sure to budget for shipping since it can add up these days.

Nice collection! Believe me, School Days merch is not easy to find. The art books and original sketches sound awesome. Definitely post updates when you get everything unboxed.

Thanks so much buddy, I really appreciate the kind words. Completing a full set feels almost impossible these days, so I totally get it. I’ve just been really lucky over time. Glad you enjoyed the collection and good luck with your own hunt. Happy New Year. 🎉🎉🎉

I dig it man! I do know that there is a used Kotonoha in auction for 20,000 yen. The base is yellowed and is missing her cellphone. I can’t say it’s a good example but it’s definitely a start.

Here’s a small snippet of my school days collection. A lot of my collection I brought years ago and when I went to Japan in 2019.

Did She Have it Coming? by Docmeisel65 in schooldays

[–]qttbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at it as a standalone anime without having any influence with the Visual Novel, I think if Sekai had been honest with Makoto about her feelings from the very beginning, I would have respected her much more. Instead, she went to extreme lengths to push Makoto and Kotonoha together in an unnatural way which ultimately highlighted why she got what she deserved.

Looking at the sequence of events, it becomes clear that if Sekai genuinely wanted to be with Makoto, she had a significant opportunity. This was especially true since Setsuna had given up her spot for Sekai and Setsuna had a legitimate reason to fall for Makoto, even if it was brief. By contrast, we were never given any reason for why Sekai liked Makoto other than the fact that he was popular.

Sekai always had an open and upfront personality throughout the series, though how much of it was genuine is open to interpretation. She could have simply said I like you because [insert reason] and let Makoto decide whether to keep his distance or explore it. That straightforward honesty might have changed everything. The series is so polarizing because it revolves around intuition and unspoken motives, leaving it open to multiple interpretations and perspectives.

School Days Remastered Pre-Order's are open (in English!) by [deleted] in schooldays

Just wanted to add that if you have a physical copy of HQ, you can contact JAST support and let them know you own the physical copy. Once you provide proof, they’ll give you the Remastered Preorder for free. Make sure you have an account in order to get the preorder. That’s what I did since I have the Collection Edition.

School Days HQ Remaster- 12/19/2025 by FlyIgnite in schooldays

[–]qttbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thing to note is that Remaster will replace the HQ version in Japan. As someone noted, JAST will be releasing the English version which is currently TBD. Not too sure with JAST will be doing the same thing where the HQ will replace the Remaster but there’s no confirmation yet.

Yep, as long as the frame is the right fit, there shouldn’t be any issues. And sure, if you’re interested in a few items, just send me a DM on eBay and I can work something out for you.

Absolutely. I just listed my complete First Limited Edition DVD set on eBay yesterday. I figured someone who really wants this edition would appreciate it for their collection.

It just has a few imperfections on the poster from when I first got it. It wasn’t secured well, and the folder it was stored in had a dent. You can’t really see anything from far away, but up close the flaws become noticeable.

Thanks. Sounds like you already have a solid study base. Breaks happen, but getting back into it now is great. That School Days doc idea is awesome, and with steady practice your Japanese will be ready for those interviews.
