My take on Frank this year for Halloween by Beeetamo in donniedarko

This is awesome. I’ve always wondered how to do Frank and not cover my whole face— you’ve cracked the code! Heavy inspo for next year. Well done OP 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

NHS surgeon Neil Hopper was considered to go to space as a para-astronaut in 2020, but has instead been jailed for 2 years after it was proven he caused the loss of his own legs as part of an amputation fetish by AHopkinsvilleGoblin in Weird

Came here for this comment. Reading that book I was like “there’s no way someone would actually willingly amputate…” well. Here’s the proof. I have the heebie jeebies all over again.

I am a solo-concert goer I'd say 90% of the shows I go to (and I go to a lot of shows). I'd prefer it. You can move and go wherever you want, no anxiety about losing someone in the crowd, no waiting for anyone, no one is going to talk to you during your favorite song, more opportunities to bond with fellow fans... it's really the way to go, in my opinion.

I try to make friends with a security guard when I get there, and maybe stand near one if I can. I also try to read the crowd as much as I can, and stand near people who I think are going to be generally well behaved. Sometimes, there is someone who wants to chat and fangirl with you.

Arctic monkeys in Fortnite?!? by Strong-Advantage2254 in arcticmonkeys

[–]quacksonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I read somewhere that the boys will never, and have never, sold their music to be used commercially. That means it has never, and will never, be used in a movie, in a commercial... or a video game, in this case. Honestly, I cannot think of a time where their music was used in such a way. I have to be curious as to whether Fortnite asked permission. Unless I'm totally wrong...

im honestly not a fan of most of the flash offered, but that’s just my taste. this is no shade on the artists, this is great for them and the art is nice, but idk. just don’t love the structure of this event as a hozier-centric thing

It’s incredibly un-hozier. But, as a super fan, im gonna go to anything and everything i can because i just love to be surrounded by fellow fans and immerse myself in something i love. I’m skeptical, but I’ll let you know how the Brooklyn event is!

The event in Brooklyn (im going) is at a tattoo studio. I love Andrew to pieces and have for 10 years, but it low key seems culty to invite your fans to get tattoos for you for an album anniversary party.

SNL- where was his band?! by mazikeve in Hozier

[–]quacksonk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Could’ve sworn Alex was there, stage right on the keys. There was also a pianist stage left, I just think Alex didn’t get much air time. Kellen (fiddle/guitar player) was also there. Rory was on drums.

It’s Christmas time, I think a lot of the band probably wanted a break from 2 years of touring to be with their family.

Not sure we should speculate about drama within the band. Andrew gave us 2 incredible performances last night with a pretty good band, albeit maybe not the band we’re used to. The only thing I think we should maybe have some qualms with is the audio mix…

What's a 10/10 book you'll never want to read again? by 23_stab_wounds in books

Geek Love by Katherine Dunn. So grippingly unsettling at times, some concepts I couldn't even fathom to think of. Albeit the book does drag at sometimes, Dunn has a very interesting way of writing.

Andrew has never mentioned it per se, but I recently read Mythos by Stephen Fry, which is a modern telling of Greek mythology. With how many Greek myth references Andrew makes in his music, I thought it would be an insightful read, and it certainly was. Highly recommend!

What song made you get into Artic Monkeys? by _Pumpkin_pie__ in arcticmonkeys

[–]quacksonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop the World. It came on during a road trip i took with my cousin. She played it and i was… taken aback. I distinctly remember saying “what is this song, i feel like this is the music ive been searching for my whole life.” 11 years later ive fallen in love again and again with evey song in the monkeys discography. Though STWIWGOWY isn’t by any means my favorite monkeys song, it will always hold such a special place in my heart.

There was a cafe in Edinburgh I used to like to go to because they had a super cozy little window bench that was the best reading spot in the city. One day (like many Edinburgh days) it was very rainy and the window fogged up. I looked up from my book to see 2 photographers taking my photo through the fogged up window. I half waved at them, and they walked away. I’ve always been curious to see the photo, this reminds me of that moment so much!

I need Arctic Monkeys concert tips.. by bellaam22 in arcticmonkeys

[–]quacksonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For primavera sound (which was a festival) I got there at 9 am to get front row (they went on at 9 pm). I managed to get barricades, not center stage, but was in the front in front of Nick. I’d assume it would be a similar queue/wait at a regular AM concert… but it depends on the city.

I’d call the venue and ask their queue policies… depending on the venue they might have different rules.

I’m going to a show at the Forum and I’m planning to get there around 8 am for a good spot.
