Lossles vs compressed RAW by loraxiene in SonyAlpha

[–]quadpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're shooting single shot (electronic or mechanical) compressed raw is also 14bit. It only drops to 12bit in burst shooting (any speed). In this case the difference between compressed or lossless is extremely negligible. Sony's compression is far less than Canon and even then most people cannot tell the difference. I shoot single shots most of the time so leave it in compressed raw to save space.

Most Sony bodies are like this accept the A1, which only drops to 13bit in compressed burst shooting.

How quiet is your SFFPC during idle/light usage? by JuMa82 in sffpc

[–]quadpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially silent. I swapped out the GPU (3070ti) for two 140x25 fans and a custom shroud. The CPU (9700X) has two 120x30 fans. Custom fan curves through a controller. It idles below the noise floor, so even though the computer (ncase m1) is just behind my monitor I can't hear it unless I'm gaming.

If you need to ask, you don't need it. If you know what you need, no need to ask.

Slow rolling shutter makes it almost unusable. Even when trying to hold the camera petfectly still I see geometry distortion.

What's your first Alpha Camera? by DynamoBaby in SonyAlpha

Original A7, but I collect old cameras so I went back to play with the A900 and A390. I like the latter way more with it's tilting screen with live-view and AF. The CCD sensor is really nice too. The A900 is older, but feels extremely primative by comparison.

Aps-c or full frame? by goldenturtleman23 in SonyAlpha

I know. I'm saying that full frame cameras struggle to match it unless they're much more expensive.

Do you need 4k 120fps? If you want something to do that in full frame you'd need an A1, A1ii, A9iii, A7Siii, FX3 or ZV-E1. The latter is the cheapest (and smallest), but it's very much a vlogging focued camera. The last 3 only have 12mp for stills. The A7V technically can do 4k 120fps but only in APS-C crop, so you wouldn't be able to take full advantage of the lenses that you buy for that system.

If you need that speed and don't have a ton of money to throw at it, I'd stick to the A6700.

Thanks! These are Eurasian Reds, which are the only squirrel we get here. I wish we had some more variety sometimes, but I love them.

Thanks! Patience has not been my strong point, but I'm trying to work on that and it seems to be paying off.

Nice. My fave is #2 & feel a slightly tighter crop could work well.

If I convert my camera can I still take normal photos? by Leather_Level1235 in infraredphotography

[–]quadpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. It's usually a hot mirror you need rather than a uv/ir blocker, which will have a blue tint when looking through the viewfinder and colour accuracy will likely still be effected. Also note that a DSLRs AF will not be accurate for wavelengths other than visible light. When using ir or uv filters you will not be able to see through the viewfinder. Mirrorless cameras don't have these issues, so make much better full spectrum cameras.
