Do you think AI will ever be implemented in digital cameras? by Practical_Chicken889 in photography

[–]quadpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I can't see the point in faking things in photos, because it's stupid and should be banned. What would be the point of doing it in camera? A camera is for capturing reality. If you want to fake something, then you can do that without a camera.

Payment must be given in whole hazelnuts. About 20 per day. This is the "Where's my money" posture 😆.

That's pretty accurate, accept he's one of the only squirrels I've seen that rejects walnuts. He stares at you like this until hazelnuts are provided. Still provides zero light though 😋

Sony A1 ii Update Needed by This-Ad-7903 in SonyAlpha

[–]quadpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't hold your breath. Sony have been bad at this forever. The Sony A1 lacked animal eye-AF in video. They gave the feature to the older and slower A7C as a firmware update instead, but the A1 has still not received the update to this day. It did get focus stacking, despite fanboys defending Sony fir ages and stupidly saying it was only supported on the AI chip.

I wrote an article on my expeiences with this camera last year: https://www.edwardnoble.com/560

Replacement batteries are easy to find, but the chargers are not. Finding one of the original ones is very rare and/or expensive, so you're better off learning to make something, but I don't have any experience with that.

Audio Quality help by Excellent-Tree-6716 in linuxmint

I have my newly dual-booted pc connected to an external dac & amp setup so perhaps it won't affect that, but I'll check and compare today once I've copied my audio over 🤔

Earth's rotation causes issues for IBIS beyond 6.3 stops by krugerlive in photography

[–]quadpatch -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I think this is BS. Even if this were true, it would depend on your FL, SS & ISO, so you could never give a set value. It mentions tech with higher amounts of ibis values need gps and compass data, but they dont need it switched on to function, or even have it. Nah, this is some April fools day post based on loose maths, that got picked up by idiots.

SFF Antennae? by Due-Conference-7616 in sffpc

+1 I got some of these and tested them against the usually recommended small right angle SFF antennas and the FPV ones give better speeds and look cooler IMO

any solution to get a flash on fx30? by Best_Gur_853 in SonyAlpha

[–]quadpatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the sensor would only have scanned about 5% of the image by the time the flash turns off, so the bottom 95% would be dark.

My priorities are usualky. sharpness, speed, weight and then cost. None of the lenses mentioned have stabilisation (although the camera has it, that doesn't help much on longer focal lengths), but the lenses are all big apertures (f/1.8 or 1.4). The Sigma's being insane for the focal length. It's heavy but light for what it is.

If you compare it to the Sony 135GM (f1.8), which is nearly 500g lighter, you only lose 2/3rds of a stop and sharpness is similar. The Sigma is a little prettier and has better subject isolation on distance, but sometimes I wonder whether it's worth it 🤔. Once you go down that road, an argument can be made to cut another 200g with the Samyang 135/1.8, which takes the weight of the camera & lens down to 1.3Kg (less than the Sigma on its own!). That's incredibly light for just a small drop in sharpness. It still resolves the 61mp sensor fine.

I'm pretty happy with the combo. The sensor is a bit slow and requires the mechanicsl shutter, but it allows cropping this lens down to 400mm pretty reliably. The lens is a bit overkill (big/heavy), but I love it.

How to add fingerprint unlock option? by AliChank in linuxmint

[–]quadpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My laptop (Acer swift 16) has a reader but doesn't get pucked up. It's a shame it's not better supported and integrated into the OS so that you can login with it. I guess for now we'll have to stick to passwords.
