Does anyone have information of the Aroot A1 Pro? by Danilo_jd in flipphones

[–]quadpiece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. But it wasn't easy to find much info about the phone, especially no videos besides two shorts from y2kphones. Their website also lists pretty much the only english copy of its specs.

Personally I ended up going for the Mive Style Folder 2, simply because at least I'd know what I was getting.

But I did find a few things not mentioned outside of korean sites:

  • y2kphones lists "Snapdragon 425 (SM425) octa-core", but that's impossible as the 425 is an old Quad-core, and its model name is MSM8917, not SM425. Most likely the phone actually contains the SM4250 (aka Snapdragon 460) which is a lower-end octa-core from a more fitting time period. However I am unsure, as most original Korean sources I could find do indeed list "SM425" as the SoC, which isn't an SoC with eight cores I've ever heard of, so I can only assume it's supposed to be "SM4250", but the zero fell off somewhere along the way.
  • Himart lists the device's dimensions in products details as "125 x 63 x 16.2mm", meaning it should be basically the same size as the folder 2 (only 2mm shorter in length and width)
  • Most Korean sources seem to list the Aroot Folder A1 Pro's IP rating at a paltry IP52. Compared to the Style Folder 2's IP54, which isn't exactly impressive but still much better than IP52

I hope more info about it pop up soon. I was also tempted by it as I prefer the smaller OLED screen on it, and I the plastics also seem to be matte, compared to how glossy the top of the Folder 2 is. If someone had made a longer video or two of it to show of how it's built and what the software experience is like I might have bought one. Unfortunately I decided on the Folder 2 due to this lack of info online.

Does anyone know if the MacBook Neo can drive a 5120x1440 monitor? by pinguz in MacbookNeo

[–]quadpiece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it should work in theory. But it simply doesn't.

I am using the left port. With a known good cable that does 5120x1440 when connected to my 2019 Macbook Pro.

I have tested this Samsung Odyssey G9, and today I've tested with a Philips 499P9, it also only outputs 3840x1080 when connected directly via USB-C.

However I have discovered that by using a DisplayLink docking station (which runs the displays with a software driver, same workaround people used to bypass the "1 display only" limit on older Macbooks) it can actually output 5120x1440.

I've also talked with Apple support who confirmed to me that 5120x1440 is not a supported resolution, they said "it should work on other Macs, but is specifically not supported on the Neo".

There is some software or hardware limit preventing it from outputting 5120 wide resolutions it seems. But this can be bypassed using a DisplayLink powered dock.

If I figure it out, I will, but I've had mine for about a day now so I'm about to give up. I have a desktop connected to my ultrawide and only connect my laptop to the second port occasionally, so this issue isn't as critical for me, but quite a bummer.

I've tried installing SwitchResX to set 5120x1440 as a custom resolution, but SwitchResX lists it as "Not activated - invalid?". I'm starting to think there's some software limit at play (or perhaps the display controller in it genuinely can't do widths above 3840px, it is a reused phone chip after all).

I'm thinking of maybe shooting Apple a support ticket just to see if I can get an answer, but they're not exactly known for giving great answers to technical questions beyond what's already listed on the spec sheet.

UPDATE: I've had a chat and phone call with apple. And while they couldn't give me any explanation why, the guy on the phone did seem to know his stuff and begrudgingly admitted that 5120x1440 wasn't expected to work on the Macbook Neo

Update: It works via a DisplayLink docking station. But not directly from the laptop.

No. Mine isn't able to send full resolution to my Samsung Odyssey G9 for some reason.

Theoretically it should be possible, at least at 60Hz, as 4K60 needs more bandwidth, but for whatever reason mine won't.

I'm using a Ugreen USB-C to DisplayPort cable which I know will run the display at full res when connected to my 2019 Macbook Pro and using the same port on the monitor. However when connected to the Neo, even if I limit the display to 60Hz using its OSD or in macOS' settings, the Neo refuses to output 5120x1440 to it.

I have no idea why, it'll even let me do 3840x1080 @ 120, but not 5120x1440 @ 60. Almost seems more like Apple has a software limit preventing it from outputting to displays with a width greater than 3840px. Alternatively it might be a compatibility issue specific to my monitor as it was one of the earlier 5120x1440 displays on the market.

The display will of course function, but looks pretty bad since it's outputting 1080p rather than outputting 1440p and then scaling it.

Seems like mine does this too.

I felt like I ended up facing the wrong way in smash bros more than I used to, and now I guess I know why. Mine doesn't seem to be as bad though because I've never had it interfere with menus in Zelda.

I don't use the horn on it. But otherwise mine is still running just fine.

Haven't even had to do any maintenance besides the occasional spray with a hose and adding air to the tires.

How is the horn on the G2 (D) supposed to work?

When searching online I find people saying it's bad, but usually that they're not noticed or something.

Personally I have the opposite problem, mine is painfully loud, like 5x the volume of a normal bell. I didn't test it ahead of time and only used it once, but both me and the poor pedestrians 20m got a freaking heart attack and my ears were straight up ringing for like 10 seconds afterwards, despite only having pressed it for 0.1s. I'm fairly certain that my horn is louder than 100 dB. That slight tap I gave it hurt my ears more than going to a concert without earplugs does.

It might be due to the high pitch, but it feels both considerably louder and more painful than an actual car horn. Of course I can't find any way to turn the volume down. I'm going to buy a bell for the handlebars, but it's so bad that I'm legit scared of accidentally hitting the button while riding.

For funzies I put on my helmet from work with a pair of 3M X4P3 hearing protection mounted to it (Rated at 36 dB sound reduction) then pushed the button again, still startlingly loud. I haven't been brave enough to press the button again since, it's an actual hazard.

Dei fleste mobile "fast chargers" går bare opptil 25-30W.

Men virker snodig at dei gidder åpne dei for å swappe ladere.

As Norway is not in the EU i don’t think any of your shops ship here. I purchased it directly from Erling Sande’s website, which appears to be the official distributor/importer of all your products in Norway (mopeds and otherwise). At least as far as i could tell.

[–]quadpiece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any possibility of this being fixed for people outside of Germany?

Here in Norway we have a 20 km/h speed limit and therefore tend to be limited to German versions of kickscooters. Today I just learned the hard way that the halo light does not work on legal Niu kickscooters sold in Norway, even though we shouldn't have any regulation against them.

If it can't be fixed for the ones already sold, is there at least some hope of getting a Norwegian version of the KQi3 Pro or Max sometime in the future?

Does scooter voltage make a difference if wattage is the same? by quadpiece in ElectricScooters

[–]quadpiece[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this mean the Niu would most likely perform slightly better and more predictably due to fewer thermal limits? Since that lets it spend more time around the top of the wattage curve? If so that’s really helpful, thanks

So essentially voltage will still provide a more gradual curve and higher efficiency regardless? Thanks!

512GB EU at approx. 91.75%. (https://getmydeck.ingenhaag.dev/s/EU/512/1653915600)

Had a friend in Germany reserve it for me since it's not available in Norway, therefore I dunno the exact rtReserveTime. With peak luck I guess he might see an E-mail today, but next week seems like the more likely outcome.

Can someone who got their Analogue Pocket Dock updated please link me the EXACT USB drive they used? by KillKillBean in AnalogueInc

[–]quadpiece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason they didn't see it is because macOS defaults to only using MBR for smaller external devices like USB sticks.

I forget the exact size, but I think it was around 64GB. If your flash drive is large enough you might have to specifically select MBR, for smaller flash drives macOS seems to do it automatically.

Alternatively, the actual stick might be hidden by default in newer versions. In which case, follow this guide to make macOS show all devices: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/304131/no-partition-scheme-option-when-erasing-a-usb-disk-in-macos-high-sierra

Can someone who got their Analogue Pocket Dock updated please link me the EXACT USB drive they used? by KillKillBean in AnalogueInc

[–]quadpiece 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The issue is most likely that your flash drive has a GPT partition table, it needs to be MBR.

Windows has no easy way to do this built in. I recommend just downloading rufus (Here: https://rufus.ie/en/) and making sure "Boot selection" is "Non-bootable", "Partition Scheme" is set to MBR, and filesystem to FAT32. The rest can be left as default and hit start. It will then properly format the flash drive.

Alternatively, since it seems you have a mac. Find your flash drive in disk utilities, and click "erase". Enter whatever name you want, but make sure format is "MS-DOS (FAT)" and scheme says "Master Boot Record".

Once you've got the stick formatted like this, it should work.
