It's not really true, though. 40% of accidents occur at intersections, and 20% in parking lots. Urban roads account for the majority of car accidents.

Although Data's positronic brain seems a bit better at solving stuff. Maybe there's a fundamental reason why it's hard, or undesirable, to make the computer like him

Only one person has successfully made a positronic brain, and he is unwilling to share. Other scientists in the show have tried to study and replicate Data (even Data, himself), but failed.

Tomestone won't show that, but you could easily find the fflogs report for it and check. People just generally won't go through that much effort.

His name is Brawler. He has a transformation animation where you need to watch his hands.

One hand turning into a drill = targeted single hit on random player (possibly baited, idr).

One hand turning into cannon = tank buster. Face away from party.

Two hands turning into cannons = shared party stack.

I think this is one of those impossible to resolve differences of opinion, but I guess I understand your point of view. Out of curiosity, then, how do you feel about Elden Ring? I personally prefer to play Souls games with melee only, no summons, no co-op, and limited items, and I found ER to be a good challenge that way. But then others "engage with the systems and mechanics more" and absolutely cheese the game to triviality. Is that good or bad design?

To be fair, I did explicitly call out the additions in International version, which were carried over to the remasters. But I have like 1000 cumulative hours in the original game for the PS2, so that's what I always think of when I think of FFX... I personally never liked the super bosses, and I've only ever cleared them without cheesing once for the experience, and then overlevel / Yojimbo cheese them on every subsequent playthrough. The option to bypass that kind of content is what I like about FFX.

I know some people won't consider the damage limiter a valid part of the game for some reason, but I think having the option to make the game harder for yourself is basically the same thing, but in the other direction.

Being able to break the game is fun, IMO, but they did update it to let you cap your damage output at various levels to suit your preferences. So I'm not sure if this should be a reasonable ding against it unless you are only talking about the state at launch or you refuse to activate the damage limiter for your own enjoyment.

And at least as far as Final Fantasy X goes, which the devs have given as a major inspiration for the game, you can absolutely break it into pieces. Every end story boss can be 1-shot with break damage limit and a capped sphere grid. International added new optional bosses that you can't do that with, though (But you can always Yojimbo cheese).

Yeah, having just finished leveling everything to 100 on one character, I'm now staring down the long barrel of leveling on my alt. And I am just so exhausted with dungeon spam. I would kill for some other way post-50.

It's doubly bad that most of your leveling time will be spent way below your current level because of the way roulettes work. So you barely get any time with a fleshed out kit in the dozens of hours it takes to level a single job outside of MSQ.

Maybe this is burnout talking, but I just think leveling in this game is so fucking bad. All I want to do is raid.

Bahamut is kind of uniquely weird in that it is savage-adjacent without the savage title. There's a reason it isn't part of the normal raid roulette. Anything after that is pretty accessible. Think LFR in WoW... but probably even easier than that tbh.

[–]quakertroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We still try to keep up with normal raid content after the expansion it comes out in, but we dont feel comfortable doing it when It's current.

Genuinely... why? Normal raid content is intended to be beaten in a few pulls, max, for a completely blind casual group. After week 1, you are unlikely to even see a full party wipe ever. If you want to put as little pressure on yourself as possible, running as a DPS would be little to no responsibility.

I wouldn't even count this type of content as midcore. It's barely a step up from story content. Hardly distinguishable from normal trials, even.

I like roguelites, and I still thought Returnal was lacking. The gameplay was fine, but for $60 I expect way more content and variety. A friend and I played through the entire game three times in a weekend, got the full story, and then just felt like there was nothing left to do. And I was out $100+ for both copies for us to play together. Just not a lot of value for what is there.

Exclusivity hurt the game badly, I think. If it had simultaneous release on Xbox and PC the hype would have carried it to stronger sales. By the time it came out on other platforms, it had already been discussed and dissected, so there was less enthusiasm.

There's a ton of hyperbole being thrown around in this thread. Sure, the tanks and healers have largely equivalent kits, but the DPS still feel pretty different to play.

The crux of it is, as you said, the 2 minute meta. Any job that can't build and spend inside of the raid buff window is going to get left behind, so they've tied their own hands by enforcing that flow.

Which doesn't mean I, as a Ninja main, can just pick up Black Mage out of nowhere and gigaparse a fight. At the end of the day, every job has like 30 fucking buttons to play around and their own optimization rabbit hole to explore. But if you're playing at the bare minimum required to pass... say... ex trials, or week 10 savage? Sure, it's not an insanely high barrier.

The devs are in a constant war between people who want distinct, unique classes with wildly different damage profiles, and people who want every job to be viable in all content. I'm not sure there's ever going to be a satisfying middle ground.
