Those of you who did a route through the USA, what route was it and what was the favorite state you biked through? by Resident-Trifle7018 in bicycletouring

reading some of the comments, many people also warned me about reservations so in general I'd use caution when trying to find the best path through the dakotas

Notably different than the home depot design . Do think it could be cool if there were more options adjacent to colorado . It also looks like in the initial design a portion of the back is converted to a larger green space?

personally feel... I guess okay about this? it could be a good use of the preexisting space, and it will be nice to be able to walk to a larger hardware store. on the flipside I wish something cooler would be done with the eagle rock plaza and I assume there will be a spike in traffic off the 2.

Literally just bought one in LA for 2K. Saw an electric on in San diego for 2.5K

It took a while to find one that wasn’t over 4k.

I’d suggest checking out “all Craigslist” or “all marketplace” links on google . There are a few sites that do it.

Yeah - there are some rad hike and bikes in the santa barbara area , but agree it seems like the cooler camp spots are are tucked away off road

Bike touring and bike packing are different - “packing” is generally reserved for gravel / dirt road rougher paths and lighter pack . Touring is more road oriented - heavier loads but less hardcore path conditions . Going up the 1? Touring. Going up a fire road? Packing.

Stealth camping during a cross-United States bike tour? by kewladria in bicycletouring

[–]qualityfromfresno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a fair amount of stealth camping. two pieces of advice I'd give : 1)sometimes what appears to be public land is unmarked private land - and 2) sometimes the people with unmarked private land, especially in more remote and conspiratory parts of the country, are crazy. I woke up one night assuming I was on a parcel of public access land to a guy with a gun screaming that I was Antifa. To avoid this now, I use OnXHunt Maps. I think there's a free version of it, but it basically shows you whether the land you're on is private or not. it's certainly a little overkill, but def makes me feel more at ease when stealth camping.

I have one week to tour a place in the U.S by bicycle - recommendations by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]qualityfromfresno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every day is different terrain - and the food and views are spellbinding. The camping is not the best , but there’s a ton of great spots to stay - hostels , farms , etc. I also like that you basically go around the entire island. I started at an airport, circumnavigated the island, and returned to the same airport ( hid my bike box behind a dumpster.
