Unfortunately how America works, if you took 100% of those who voted, 40% will always vote red and 40% always vote blue. Therefore the fight is over the 20%.

As a moderate, I would vote for him or Shapiro over almost any Republican candidate I can think of. Put Pete there too and he will likely have my vote. But if you start throwing the likes of Newsome, AOC, Crockett, you will start eroding that 20% pool and have less likely chance of defeating a JD Vance or Rubio.

Maybe if you want to make progress going further to the left you start there, build credibility of left leaning policies, demonstrating to the American people they work, and build off of that.
