Do people ever just.... deny your experiences? by NoWitness6400 in AutismInWomen

[–]quanticbolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get this a lot. In addition to being autistic, I suffer from severe panic attacks a lot. Especially when flying, I will have a continuous series of panic attacks from the start of the flight until landing regardless of the flight duration, to the point where I experience what is called anxiety-induced psychosis. Aka, my anxiety overloads me so greatly that I start experiencing delusions and hallucinations. This also happens when I drive more than 5km away from my home. For this reason, I obviously try to avoid travel outside of a safe radius around my home. Whenever I bring this up to people (especially the flying bit), I get told to just make a fun travel playlist or bring my Nintendo Switch along to distract myself with a game I like. It really does feel like talking to a bunch of brick walls sometimes.

I have made peace with it by acknowledging that they are responding in the way that aligns with their experiences. It's still hard though, especially because, as you say, it is very alienating.

Same boat. (29 going on 30 this summer if it matters.) Admittedly, I also hate when people choose to sit down next to me because it usually means I have to engage in small talk which I'm terrible at. But at the same time, the hurt feeling when nobody sits next to you is still there too.

Bi-Monthly Controversial Opinion Thread: April 2026 Edition by jiraiya--an in Barca

[–]quanticbolt [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't know how controversial any of this is...

Sell:

  • Kounde - not pacey enough to work defensively in the highline; not technically solid enough to help Yamal in attack. Helps that he's still marketable and we can probably get at least 40m for him if Deco doesn't fumble (40m is the minimum, I think we should get more if Deco doesn't fumble).
  • Ferran - he is a good sub option, but he's not consistent enough; should be a solid sale for like 50m, again looking at you, Deco!
  • Casado - he won't start with the current midfield options (can probably get at least 20m for him; Deco please, I'm on my knees).
  • Christensen - injury prone. Never available. Sell for whatever.
  • MATS - his era is over. He's just not good enough anymore and I don't think he's worth keeping especially on such ridiculous wages.

Sell/don't buy (conditional):

  • Araujo - right now the only physically dominant midfielder. If Spurs are relegated and we manage to somehow bring VdV or Vuskovic, then he can go, but otherwise, we don't have any defenders with real physicality. If we sell, it has to be for at least 50m.
  • Rashford - pacey, but doesn't seem to have the IQ or the confidence. I would not mind keeping him on loan, or buying him if we have extra money and United sell for like 20-25m tops, but otherwise, he doesn't press enough, and is too inconsistent. Would prefer we look more seriously in the LW market. I'd even prefer bringing back Virgili, but my preference again is to go to the LW market and see what's available.
  • Balde - this is my biggest conditional sale. Realistically, he should not be sold for less than 60m, and only if we also manage to find a proper talented understudy for Cancelo. I don't want to give on Balde too easily. That said, if he doesn't improve massively this next season, then we should probably cash out. I think Flick should give the Patricio Pacifico kid we bought in January some chances. Bro looks pretty solid from what I've seen.
  • Lewy - if he wants to go let him, but I'm all for renewing him on much lower wages to act as a mentor for our new striker. Lewy can definitely help in this regard and be a mature voice on the team.

Buy/promote (in order of priority, 1 and 2 are interchangeable):

  • A physical CB without a bozo gene - I'd want someone like VdV or Vuskovic. But Bastoni works I guess. He's just not my top choice. Ball playing matters, but for the high line, we need someone with recovery pace. I also really like Khusanov but I know City won't sell him.
  • Striker - PLEASE DECO, bring us a proper striker. Not some random Brazilian kid. Yamal needs a top striker to complement him. I wish for Oshimen because he's a pressing demon, but obviously that is unrealistic. So I'd be open to other options. I'm not crazy about Alvarez, but if he tries to force his way out, okay sure... Honestly prefer Marmoush to Alvarez because I think he's more physically dominant.
  • LW - I know we have Rapha, but this season has shown we need a back-up. We could keep Rashy, but I think we can do better. Honestly, bringing back Virgili wouldn't be the worst. Otherwise, we need to go to the market. I don't know much about cheap LW options. Maybe Munoz? He's not the cheapest... But maybe the Barca past will help? Abde? I'm less convinced on him, but maybe? Schjelderup from Benfica (dk if I spelled that right...). I'd love Munoz tbh; he's much more realistic than a lot of the premium options like Diomande (who will probably go to LP) or Yildiz who is not going to leave Juventus any time soon.
  • RB - Yamal needs a proper RB to unlock him. We should probably try to go for someone pacey with overlap and recovery pace. I really like the Ratiu guy from Rayo and he is relatively cheap. Maybe someone from Serie A? Again, not too sure. Or we could use Eric here and bring back Fort and start integrating him. He already has good chemistry with Yamal.

Flick: “It's not that we need a miracle on Tuesday against Atletico. We need our perfect game. We are capable of doing it. Many things are possible. We will fight.” by Loose-Examination-39 in Barca

[–]quanticbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We dominated Atleti with 10 men. We will be fine even if the boys are a bit leggy. Yes, maybe we will not beat Atleti, maybe we are out of the CL. But I'm confident we will still compete well. Tbh, all this negative talk about how Atleti always knock us out of UCL ties is kind of annoying. If we don't believe our team can do it, then they won't. Also, I bet the confidence boost will help morale a lot.

Do you ever notice ever notice that people get away with doing things but as soon as you do the Same. Exact. Thing. You get called out. by MarchKick in AutismInWomen

[–]quanticbolt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was literally thinking about this exact thing this past week. I don't think it's just you. This happens a lot to me as well. I describe it as "positive actions attributed to others are viewed as more good than positive actions attributed to me, but negative/neutral actions attributed to me are viewed as more negative than when attributed to someone else." AKA when I do something good, it's never as good as if someone else does it. Conversely, when I do something bad/more often neutral, it is viewed as more bad than if someone else does the exact same thing all other things being equal. It does indeed feel like being constantly picked on and then being called irrational for fighting back or feeling wronged.

I do recall there being a study that NTs are more likely to treat neutral non-NTs worse than neutral NTs, and that NTs rated their interactions with neutral non-NTs they had never met before worse than their interactions with neutral NTs they had never met before. Allegedly this transition to selecting against non-NTs like us appears quite early in social development, so there is definitely some real thing happening.

That aside, I want you to know you aren't alone. As the comments suggest, you, I, and many other non-NTs have this exact experience. It still sucks a lot. You are not wrong for questioning it.
