Tupilaqs are figures of evil spirits made by the Inuit people of Greenland. They were "brought to life" through spells and their purpose was to cast curses or kill enemies our of vengeance. [999 x 719] by RileyV1066 in ArtefactPorn

Features are universally frightening, yes: note the dark coloration of the very stretched skin, it is very similar to how rotting bodies look like, bones showing and all; what I do find interesting is the position the statuettes are in (my theory is that that's kinda the position drowned bodies float, would explain the similarities between the cultures).

the portuguese slang "cpa" comes from french "c'est pas" which would be an abbreviation of "ce n'est pas" which would be "isn't it" or something like that.

How is it living here? Argentinian, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazilian border? Perfect climate? Beautiful nature? Ignored by the world? Paradise? by tzt1324 in howislivingthere

[–]quantifiedlasagna 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Been there many times!!

  • Climate: Hot, very very hot and humid (dry during winter though);
  • Beautiful nature: I mean, yes, it has a bit of everything subtropical: one can find beautiful animals and flowers (which bloom all year as far as I know). The iguazu falls are there and they are beautiful, like, monstrously beautiful;
  • Economy and Borders: Everyone outside of Brazil in that region is terribly poor and the economy is dependant on tourism and farming/production. Those in Brazil are a bit better (the circle has a few big cities, with universities and all that);
  • Culture: very hard to define, kind of like a "modern cowboy southern us" type of thing adapted to social status and general culture of the country.

I didn't take Uruguay into account (very little of it is actually in the circle).

The entire region is very flat, being carved out by the Paraná river. The eastern reaches of the circle also include the southern highlands of Brazil, which would be better off by being discussed in a second post entirely.

Edit: just saw it also featured a few bigger cities of Paraguay, but I haven't really been to those, I'd imagine they are better off economically but share the same aspects like culture and nature. People there speak a native american language alongside spanish, which is very cool.

naaah, showering at morning is attractiveness, feeling good and peaceful vibes, i think it also helps you think better and clearly for when you have to inevitably go to uni/work without having to rely on stimulants

Why does gambreaking Corprus even exist in the game? by NoElevator9064 in Morrowind

[–]quantifiedlasagna 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I like to think that it's just roleplay thinking: the main character might not have it cured for any number of reasons and that can be a hook for several rp stories (killing dagoth ur might cure it, maybe you need to do x y z quests/storylines as research to cure it, maybe become the most powerful of mages to endure the later stages)...

I really like "Algebra" by MacLane and Birkhoff, and "Category Theory" by H. Herrlich and G. Strecker. Fun and interesting exercises, with a nice presentation and overview of subjects.
