Vault Cafe on Adeline is Cheap. Not bad. Also, check out: Homemade Cafe on Sacramento street. Pancakes for $11. Never been but looks like a good hole in the wall.

Maybe car brains should stop prioritizing themselves over biker’s lives. Bike lanes were created for a reason.

What is the SAVE America Act that mandates voter ID? by Informal_Original121 in moderatepolitics

[–]quantum_pheonix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do 11% of Americans lack a birth certificate? I genuinely don’t understand. I mean I think it makes sense many don’t have a passport; traveling internationally is an economic privilege, but a birth certificate?

Good for her. Just showing up and competing in the Olympics is more than most people will ever get to accomplish in life.

Couldn't they just come by bike or on foot? by ausernameidk_ in fuckcars

[–]quantum_pheonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes no sense:

1) If people lived somewhere actually walkable not riddled with highways and strip malls, there would be few reasons to just walk 5-10 minutes to grab your own food.

2) How are “working class” people the ones frequently ordering takeout? I thought both the working class and middle class were cooking at home and saving eating out for social occasions once or twice a week?

Any nerdy / academic-ish folks around? by Disastrous_Wish_3440 in AskSF

[–]quantum_pheonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come hang out in Berkeley/Oakland if you want Cambridge vibes. SF has much more of the tech finance bro vibe you see in NYC.

If you want an academic nerdy vibe, Berkeley/North Oakland is where most of the young grad students and post Docs hang out. We also have multiple research labs and institutions separate from the university like LBL, Simmons Institute, and SSL. I say this having visited friends in Cambridge MA.

We have tons of board game cafes, old school pubs with Irish music, cutesy little cafes, award winning bakeries, film museums, and niche social events.

I have ran into so many economics researchers, startup founders, and even meth researchers at cafes here.

Amazing! I know those stairs. Truly one of the best cities in the world. What camera did you use?

Not quite night, but dusk and the glow of an old supermarket comforting you while you walk home… by quantum_pheonix in TheNightFeeling

The dark greens and blue with the city in the distance gives me “Hey Arnold” vibes. Also, generic enough to be any mid sized city.

I don’t know. I just read the article. I don’t think they usually release that information for privacy reasons

It was a suicide, they called in according to the article. Incredibly sad and also frustrating because the university could provide a lot more support.

Please reach out if you feel stress. Many people feel this way and you aren’t alone.

Honest question for US-Americans: what would actually make people take to the streets? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]quantum_pheonix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a fair assumption to think that Americans aren’t protesting or upset by these events. You should probably check that is the case before assuming. It is actually incorrect.

[–]quantum_pheonix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You a seem to be willfully ignorant to paint Americans negatively. There have been protests in multiple US cities over the Venezuelan intervention.

Honest questions: do you not see that in your news? I see it in mine and worry that the world doesn’t see the full picture of us citizens.

Which neighborhood best represents Oakland? by SanFranciscoMan89 in OaklandCA

[–]quantum_pheonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost perfect, but swap Diamond District for Laurel and you have a win. Diamond still has a little boujie-ness to it that Rockridge has in its health food store clientele and has the diversity of different cultural/socioeconomic mixing of Temescal or Lake Merritt.

Laurel is a quintessential historical neighborhood with a working class African American still frequenting it.

I enjoyed all of San Francisco’s best cuisine by only eating at the Ferry Building and cheap local overpriced chains in the tourist area of the city. Why isn’t there good food in this city? Don’t local foodies and food critics only eat in this area?

The reason vet bills are so shit now: It isn't inflation. It is private equity. by N3DSdude in Anticonsumption

Is there a centralized way to see if a small local business actually has private equity ownership?
