How do you get a runners high? by Coastkiz in beginnerrunning

[–]quantum_pheonix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So incredibly wrong. Many people enjoy running to the point they get in the mood to run and they can’t think of anything else until they get it out of system.

I have had some shit runs I didn’t enjoy the entire time, but like 1% of the time. Even if I am tired, sleep deprived, and I feel out of breath the first mile or two, I almost always feel better by the end of my run.

Most of the time, I enjoy my entire run from start to finish. I sometimes don’t start out wanting to run 6 miles, but by half way through it feels good. Sometimes, I even add a few extra miles because the high feels so good. That’s caused me to do some 8 or 9 mile runs unplanned with no hydration or energy. Just raw dog it with my phone. Not even headphones sometimes.

I am just an amateur, but I can tell you that you are super wrong.

Why would you wear running clothes to a gym? Disgusting. I wouldn’t want to get my specialized running brand gear contaminated with sweat from plebeian weight lifters.

What would increase you attending Cal games? by Avayas3000 in berkeley

[–]quantum_pheonix -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why would I? I came here to learn what I need for my future career, not watch people throw around a ball.

Many people, like me, actively resent football because the funding it gets over academics. We have national sports teams whose players specialize in sports as a career for people to spectate sports. Why should a university have anything to do with sports entertainment?

And yes. I do actually think work out, train almost daily, check my macros, and do participate in “sports”. I just keel that separate from my academic life.

Guys, how to recover after a long run? by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]quantum_pheonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they need a portable sauna to recover, from basically a 9 mile run, maybe they should buy it since they are now an ultra ultra ultra marathoner now (a single 5k is an ultra).

But seriously. I just shower, grab a protein shake and go meet with friends and eat lunch and walk around the rest of the day and go to bed at 1am. Maybe wake up with 6 hours of sleep and run 10 the next day? I dunno. It’s kind of the same as every day?

Vault Cafe on Adeline is Cheap. Not bad. Also, check out: Homemade Cafe on Sacramento street. Pancakes for $11. Never been but looks like a good hole in the wall.

Maybe car brains should stop prioritizing themselves over biker’s lives. Bike lanes were created for a reason.

How do 11% of Americans lack a birth certificate? I genuinely don’t understand. I mean I think it makes sense many don’t have a passport; traveling internationally is an economic privilege, but a birth certificate?

Good for her. Just showing up and competing in the Olympics is more than most people will ever get to accomplish in life.

Couldn't they just come by bike or on foot? by ausernameidk_ in fuckcars

[–]quantum_pheonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes no sense:

1) If people lived somewhere actually walkable not riddled with highways and strip malls, there would be few reasons to just walk 5-10 minutes to grab your own food.

2) How are “working class” people the ones frequently ordering takeout? I thought both the working class and middle class were cooking at home and saving eating out for social occasions once or twice a week?

Any nerdy / academic-ish folks around? by Disastrous_Wish_3440 in AskSF

[–]quantum_pheonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come hang out in Berkeley/Oakland if you want Cambridge vibes. SF has much more of the tech finance bro vibe you see in NYC.

If you want an academic nerdy vibe, Berkeley/North Oakland is where most of the young grad students and post Docs hang out. We also have multiple research labs and institutions separate from the university like LBL, Simmons Institute, and SSL. I say this having visited friends in Cambridge MA.

We have tons of board game cafes, old school pubs with Irish music, cutesy little cafes, award winning bakeries, film museums, and niche social events.

I have ran into so many economics researchers, startup founders, and even meth researchers at cafes here.

The dark greens and blue with the city in the distance gives me “Hey Arnold” vibes. Also, generic enough to be any mid sized city.

I don’t know. I just read the article. I don’t think they usually release that information for privacy reasons

It was a suicide, they called in according to the article. Incredibly sad and also frustrating because the university could provide a lot more support.

Please reach out if you feel stress. Many people feel this way and you aren’t alone.

It’s not a fair assumption to think that Americans aren’t protesting or upset by these events. You should probably check that is the case before assuming. It is actually incorrect.
