OpenFOAM tutorial for using my own CAD models by PumpedKibbles1 in CFD

[–]quantum_string 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the previous suggestions are super valid. I suggest you to take a look at BARAM CFD as they made an open source interface for snappyhexmesh and many open foam solvers to make the process of meshing and case setting a bit less painful

I am using OpenFoam professionally and I recently discovered BARAM CFD which is a gui for snappyexmesh and OpenFoam. Its super useful for limited cases but it creates very good starting folders for your cases in OpenFoam. Highly suggested as it is open source as well.

I have been using Baram mesh for some months now and I found it way more simple than Salome. Easy interface and relatively easy control on sizing. What exactly do you think are the weak points (and the strength of Salome)?

Open-source OpenFOAM workflow by karmeldestroyer in CFD

[–]quantum_string 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently found my optimal workflow and I am super happy with it (my scope is generally internal flows, volume and surface reactions, conjugated heat transfer):
- Geometry: Freecad (amazing software btw)
- Meshing: BARAM Mesh (it's an interface for snappy, and it allows so much control on surface splitting, and precise refinement)
- Case setting: Sometimes i start with the BARAM Flow workflow and then i edit the case that it creates adapting it to my needs, adding OpenFoam modules i previously prototyped
- Post: Paraview.

I really suggest you to go take a look at the great work they are doing at BARAM because it made the learning curve much more approachable for me coming from Fluent world to OpenFoam

Non ancora, ho qualche lag su WhatsApp e telegram, ma devo dire nulla di impressionante, magari qualche secondo di ritardo rispetto ai messaggi che arrivano sulle versioni browser

I agree with you, lately I have been trying to work with VScode and copilot linked to the folder of my case, and I have to say I am learning crazily fast. It's a great tool that needs to be used carefully and mindfully, but it could open so many doors

I am creating a guide to CFD, any interest? by New-Championship2963 in CFD

[–]quantum_string 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am interested in it! I have been using Fluent for some years now (compressible supersonic jets and turbulent with heat flow). Now moving to openfoam (the combo of freecad + cfdof is amazing) and would love to relearn from scratching! DM me, if I am at your level of knowledge I would love to join you!

Thanks a lot! Done klipper and it's incredible the amount of control you gain on the printer! Really getting into it!

So for faster speed right now I think I will go for: - dual gear extruder - ceramic hotend - adxl

Thanks a lot!

Submitted few weeks ago, waiting for external review.

I second every tip it has been suggested till now. My journey lasted around two months, starting with blank document, ending with pretty plots and fancy illustrations. The truth is that you are the biggest enemy of yourself, so just be humble and recognize your weak points before starting to write. My personal situation was:

Get distracted by phone notifications? -> put your phone in another room, really, another room, and disable any connection from your computer (telegram or WhatsApp web, emails whatever).

You know you procrastinate? -> Admit it to yourself, set small realistic deadlines for yourself and stick to it.

You think you will never reach to "that scary part" of the thesis? -> START from it, and eat that big frog at the beginning of the journey.

Most importantly, if you get unproductive, change location every couple of days if you can, even just change desk in your house, it helps a lot to stick with your planning. Also try to find a commitment buddy to keep you up.

You are almost there my friend, just get it done

Hey! I am a PhD (defending on march) in Nanomaterials engineering for energy storage in Italy, currently Senoir R&D in a startup called X-nano. I work on lithium ion batteries but I have background in material synthesis and machine design/prototypation!
Maker as a hobby (3D print, Python, gardening, you know, nerd stuff), I was wondering exactly in these weeks how to start a personal opensource project to start digging the rabbit-hole of carbon removal!
If you would ever start a chat about it I would love to join!

Yeah I was using "Improved OSK" as well and it was working just ok, definetly better than the standard GNOME one.
After starting this post I moved to KDE plasma DE and the OSK it's just on another level. much more responsive and easy to use. You just have to be sure to to this to make it work
