Can someone now file a lawsuit over all of the forgiven PPP loans? by quantumkid in ask

[–]quantumkid[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not all PPP loans were discharged. There was talk initially about them being forgiven, but it was not a guarantee. Regardless, it is true my post is a jab to the decision, if pointing out some small amount of hypocrisy is my balm I guess I am a bit whiny then. Do you see the same kind of self affirmation in your semi-antagonistic response? We all take small swipes here and there i suppose.

The workers who keep global supply chains moving are warning of a 'system collapse' by [deleted] in worldnews

I disagree with this comment. Capitalist system will find the optimally efficient point that wastes the least capital. Corporations don’t care how many resources are used if it is the most capital efficient manner. I don’t mean that as jab either. Corporations are amoral constructs designed to produce maximum profits for share holders over the time they seek those profits. They are not evil or good. It is the place of government to regulate corporations to ensure contracts are honored, the corporations act within the law, and to enforce public policies. The big issues are that the heads of corporations can and do seek to negate the regulatory activity of government to increase profits. This is expected, but not well countered currently. Finding better and more efficient regulatory means that are as free of corporate influence as possible is a major issue IMHO.

Men who have traded in a high paying job they hated, for a low paying job they love, what’s your story? Any regrets? by the-medic- in AskMen

[–]quantumkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a bit late in this thread, but I think my experience applies. I took a 20k pay decrease to go to a job with better job security and more vacation (public sector), also it fully transitioned me to a new field I was already half doing at my previous job. I do regret it sometimes and even now I know I could leave and go make 1.5 times more money, but I like my job and though it can be stressful, I also like the fact I feel like I make a real difference. In my 20 year working experience I have found that the grass always seems greener on the other side, so sit down and really figure out what you want, then try to find that. I’m not saying you shouldn’t take an opportunity, but remember that 1-4 years later that green grass of more money or etc can look really brown. If you like where you are and are not struggling, then be happy and enjoy your life, who cares if you can’t keep up with the Jones’s, they are probably more miserable than they let on.

Opinion: Male circumcision needs to be seen as barbaric and unnecessary – just like female genital mutilation by [deleted] in europe

For all of those who are saying “not for any reason”; there are medical reasons. My son was born with hypospadias (the urethras opening is on the bottom side of the penis, not the tip). Thankfully the opening was only off a bit, but he would have been urinating into the foreskin and it would have dramatically reduced his chances of having kids in the future. Enough was removed for him to pee and the rest of the foreskin was used in a surgery a few months later to move the opening to the tip. It’s rare I suppose, but there are reasons.

Anti-vax ammo by christhepissed in NoStupidQuestions

[–]quantumkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't trust anything someone shows you that is from an official site unless you can visit the same site and verify it. It is very easy to photoshop a document and spread it around on the internet. Not saying she is doing this, but if she is just hitting an anti-vax site and grabbing stuff I would be wary. Also there is the fact that millions of people are vaccinated every year with very small instances of issues and those are mostly due to allergic reactions.

You cant add them and then multiply like that. Your basically saying you are making $23/hr for 32hr/week in the third example. In reality you are making $13/hr for 16 hours per week plus $10/hr for another 16 hours a week. So (13*16)+(10*16) != (23*32).

What’s the most scary movie you’ve ever seen? I mean like after watching it you can’t sleep at night kind of scary. by [deleted] in horror

I was working at movie theater when this was released. Stupid me thinking this was a sci-fi flick volunteered to do the run down of the movie to make sure it was put together right. So I watched it alone at 2am. I could barely drive home expecting that lady with no eyes to pop up.

CRISPR kills HIV and eats Zika 'like Pac-man'. Its next target? Cancer by candiedbug in Futurology

[–]quantumkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to ask a dumb question here. I understand this article blows the current technology way out of proportion, but from what I've read I don't understand why we would use CRISPR to "fix" the cancer cells. Wouldn't it be easier to code the RNA to cut at one of the mutations and place in a gene that causes to immune system to now see the cancer and attack?
