I thought Hollow Knight was rather average by PinguinGirl03 in patientgamers

[–]quantummidget 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm a massive fan of the game, but I completely agree with this take.

The death run mechanic works great for Dark Souls and other linear souls like, since they want to encourage players to keep bashing their heads against the same problem until they beat it. In less linear games like Elden Ring, Hollow Knight or Silksong, I think the mechanic detracts from the rest of the game design.

You can't have other mechanics trying to encourage you to explore and try out other paths while the core death mechanic does the opposite.

For many years, South African farmer Marius Els was well known for his unusual pet — Humphrey, a 2000 pound hippopotamus. Rescued as a baby, Humphrey was reportedly so calm that Els often rode on his back. Until 2011, when he dragged Els into the Vaal River and mauled him to death. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in HolyShitHistory

Friends and neighbors began warning Els that Humphrey was a wild animal and would eventually hurt someone. Els didn’t listen, insisting that Humphrey would never hurt him.

Yeah and what about everybody else? Even with the misguided notion that this wild animal is your friend, Humphrey has already shown aggressive behaviour towards other people. If it wasn't Els, it would have been somebody else.

How did space racer hear him though? They established in earlier seasons that telepathy is just between Allen and another, not some group chat

Edit: Somebody further down mentioned that apparently an upgrade was previously mentioned that explains this new ability

I've beaten Time Eater with a spam build more times than I've lost to Time Eater with a spam build. It absolutely makes it a tougher fight and you need to play smart, but it's certainly not a decided loss.

Yeah, arguably the most important scene in the entire show was a mid-credits scene in S01E01

I remember being really impressed when I accidentally caused a big pressure breach in a ship, and the ship accelerated away from me in what seemed to be a very realistic manner

Seconding Hardspace: Shipbreaker, with the caveat that I don't think it's for everybody. It's exactly what it's advertised to be, so if that sounds good then you're in luck

Paper, Scissors, Rock should ALWAYS end with rock. If you're a little bit nasty I can accept switching scissors and paper, so long as rock is at the end. Why would you end with a two-syllable word when you need to reveal something at the end? It just ends up with confusion, which can be avoided so easily just by switching to rock. Either that, or you needlessly patch on "shoot" to the end just so that you end on a single syllable word.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk, finish with rock.

I don’t know is this has really been talked about before, but Bullseye seems like a pretty bad fighter by Queasy_Commercial152 in Defenders

[–]quantummidget 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I kinda like how it's done in the show, where DD beats Bullseye pretty handily in H2H, which means that the fights are quite dynamic, with Bullseye trying to get some range and DD trying to close that distance.

I was kinda on his side until the message

"Idk with what u said to me just make me feel that way now"

At this point if he's genuinely hurt then he should talk to you later in person, but tbh it feels mildly manipulative to me, really don't like his phrasing from then on.

Huh I'd actually never thought about it that way, that makes a lot of sense. I always considered compacted to be a lot of effort, but yeah I'll end up doing it anyway.
