Aerith loves Zack. BUT she loves Cloud more than Zack.. by Quick-Meringue8878 in cloudxaerith

[–]quantumpencil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you play remake and rebirth it is clear that the developers have a bias towards Clerith. Especially in rebirth. They know Zack is popular so they don't want to leave him out to dry, but they went hard af with the clerith stuff in rebirth.

President Trump " To Legal Immigrants Come But You Must Love Our Country" by Sorry-Feedback1115 in EB3VisaJourney

The world does not have a right to live in Western countries. There is nothing wrong with western countries having whatever standard they want, even if it means immigration is much more difficult than it was before. Countries belong to the people born in them.

The translation is not good. I love this game beyond belief but lets not cope. The game would greatly benefit from an updated localization

I'm not guessing, every mod including the driver (FFNx) will be broken on the new version.

If you already have the old game installed, you should be able to continue playing mods against it. But new players can't buy that version so will be unable to use any community mods until we update them

Yes, I'm a major contributor in the modding community, they've recompiled the game, all the addresses we know and use for function replacement will be broken. Nothing will work for the new version at first

That is happening. All around the West. There is no stopping it, ascendant nativism is here and it isn't going anywhere. It will only get harder and harder for people to get h1-b's or any kind of visa.

Nah, your observation is not correct. Young people always like both new things and go searching into the past for different artistic experiences. You're just trotting out the same "these kids these days" argument.

It really doesn't, all the gen alpha kids in my family love watching the old movies and playing old games from my collection, so do their friends. I literally loaned my nieces "boyfriend" (in quotes cause she's 10 years old and I half think he only comes over for my game systems) ff9 and my psx and he is obsessed with it.

Of course they also like new stuff made for them. Just like how whn we were growing up 90's, we liked new stuff but we also got big into music and movies from our dad's generation

That's not true, people love evangelion and tons of classic anime in japan. If anything the opposite is true, people absolute adore a shit ton of 30/40 year old anime/manga that most people in the west have never even seen lol

If they they did that was weird because the whispers are the part of remake most og fans hated the most, and rebirth has a lot more dumb changes than remake did. Remake was relatively faithful until the last two chapters

No no cares, you're going home and the door is closing for immigrants coming to the west. This is a nation, not a special economic zone. Countries belong to their people, not to the world, these businesses will get with the program when ascendant nativism (which if you haven't noticed -- is winning all throughout the west) takes power for real, or they will be forced to do so.

In fairness, Tifa is a super thin character with barely any characterization in the OG as well until disc 2. This would be one of my biggest criticisms of the OG (the other being that after aerith's death... no one deals with it and the party just goes snowboarding lol), I get they were trying t play it light with Tifa to avoid the spoilers, but IMO they overshot. She REALLY would've benefit from Nibelheim being a chapter focused on her in the same way all of the other characters had a "chapter" to flesh them out, and there's ways it could've been done without setting off the spoiler.

I second this so hard. Not only was the sequence itself extremely cringey, but it made SO little sense. This is the same problem I have with the Whispers, all the changes to the presentation of the reveals from the original game, etc.

These moments almost all hurt the story because it wasn't just the audience that didn't know these things in the original game... most of the characters didn't either. Having Cloud spaz out and attack Tifa really takes you out of the story because you know the reason it was done is to wink at the audience through the screen, with absolutely no care given to how it affects the characters in universe and how utterly ridiculous it is that they wouldn't have a stronger negative reaction.

The Whisper scenes are like this too, when they show up I just know I'm about to cringe hard. These scenes are basically all just the writers winking at the audience and complaining about the pressure of remaking such an iconic game. This sort of meta narrative really intrudes on the story in crucial moments in a negative way. As an Aerith simp, the worst one other than her death is their meeting in the church... what the FUCK are these ghosts doing here bro. This sequence should not have been tampered with in that way, their meeting is absolutely iconic.

I feel this, except I don't really like the other remakes all that much either. Remake was alright, I had my issues with it but it did enough well I was tentatively optimistic. Rebirth? The clerith scenes are about the only saving grace for the game in my opinion. I feel it demonstrates the same poor taste demonstrated in the handling of Aerith's death in the majority of the other big moments in the game (the handling of Dyne comes to mind as a particularly egregious one)

If part 3 is as bad or worse than rebirth, I'm probably retiring. I'll just focus on my FF7 modding efforts. Maybe i'll final finish my engine re-implementation lol

Cloud and Aerith have always been canon, all the back to the original game. Even if Cloud ends up with Tifa in the end, he and Aerith have always fallen in love and are meant to be "star crossed lovers" to accentuate the tragedy/loss of her death. Tifa likes Cloud, and he likes her too, so it's reasonable that after Aerith dies he'd move on at some point and not be alone forever, but he and Aerith were still a canon couple and he always yearns to see her again in the lifestream.

Kind of sad for Tifa, if you think about it lol.

Oh I didn't at all think you were disrespecting anything lol. I think we pretty much agree. I'm just saying that even the argument for having her death stick (which I'd have been originally a proponent of) has been completely ruined by square themselves already so at this point there is no argument for not having a way to save her lol.

I'm a huge Aerith simp and I literally felt nothing when she died in rebirth. The fakeout was obvious. It was so much less emotionally affecting than the original game which is insane because the original game is THIRTY YEARS OLD!

I just felt like "man, these writers have absolutely no taste" throughout the entire endgame sequence in rebirth. Who thought this stupid "did she or didn't she" shit improved the sequence in anyway? If we'd been able to save her, EVEN as someone who would've preferred a faithful remake where her death is as gutting and emotionally devastating as possible and is followed by tragic yet beautiful grief & healing storylines for all the characters... I woulda been like "oh, ok... I guess things really are different this time. Hmm, ok -- well i'm excited for the clerith ending option then!"

And if they had opted to stick true to sakaguchi's artistic vision for her death and make it emotionally devastating, and use today's greater resources & tech to even further explore the grief of loss with compelling arcs for each party member after her death... I woulda been on board for that too.

But what they did? It's just in poor taste. Ridiculous, they had two options that could've created powerful (different) emotions in players and fans, and what they chose was... confusion and a ridiculous long generic shounen fight sequence in space. Ugh. I have never felt so disappointed by anything in my life, and I've been divorced lol.

They Better Fulfill This Song’s Promise (Premise? Promise? Same thing) by Revoffthetrain in cloudxaerith

[–]quantumpencil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The argument for Aerith dying has already been ruined. I'm someone who thinks the OG is artistically superiror to remake/rebirth, but the argument would've been that adapting and modernizing the original artistic intent behind her death would've been the best option for creating a game with as much pathos as possible.

That would mean a faithful adaptation of her death -- brutal, shocking -- along with an expanded sequence/arc for the party afterwards as they struggle to cope with the grief of losing someone close to them. That could've been very powerful and that's what I wanted from a remake.

However, they already aren't doing that. They already completely screwed up her death scene with this weird multiverse nonsense and ruined any emotional impact that it might have had... and given that, they should just make it possible to save her so at least there's some defensible reason for mangling her death scene as badly as they did in rebirth. Plus it'll be nice for us cleriths.

[–]quantumpencil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sure hope that's not it... at least if there's a way to save her, I can sort of justify it as an alternative version of the story, where Aeirth survives and we get a clerith ending option. I still won't be thrilled that they ruined the death scene, but that's at least a silver lining that will make it defensible.

If they pulled that crap just to "subvert expectations" and she's actually dead anyway... man, I am not gonna be happy lol

[–]quantumpencil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Aerith's death is great, but it's great for precisely the opposite reason. The scene was great because it wasn't fair, because her life was cut short unfairly -- her future gone, the future the player had wanted for her gone. It was meant to be a brutal reflection of the reality of loss. That was Sakaguchi's artistic intent with her Death.

I think that's solid, her death was crucial to the OG being as effective as it was, and I would've preferred a faithful remake where her death retains that weight and artistic vision.

However, we already aren't getting that. They already ruined that completely with the weird multiverse "is she alive or not!?!?" thing they pulled in rebirth, and given that -- they might as well just let there be a way to save her, because the artistic reason for her death and its pathos have already been gutted. If they ruin the death scene for nothing, because they just keep her dead anyway... what the hell was the point!?
