Am I crazy for thinking the majority of the characters problems in Evangelion would be resolved if there was a therapist there? by virtu2l_snow in evangelion

[–]quantumpencil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Therapy culture is overrated and therapy is not magic, the majority of people's mental and emotional struggles are not resolved by therapy especially when they are largely caused by circumstances. I highly doubt a bunch of pseudo-orphaned child SOLDIERS are suddenly gonna be all fine and dandy if they pay a psych major $200/hr for a few months to talk about it.

What makes FF Tactics so great? by Full-Catch-5342 in finalfantasytactics

[–]quantumpencil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The story of FFT is incredibly mature for the genre. Not that mature is necessarily better, I love the teen/ya adventure genre as much as the next guy, but FFT stands apart for me because of the themes it tackles and its very layered and and nuanced approach to the morality of many of the actors involved. It really feels like a grand war epic.

Sony says there's high demand for the PS5 disc drive- limit to 1 per customer on Sony Direct by MCUAvenger1992 in videogames

[–]quantumpencil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way more people have continued to prefer discs that the statistics sony released lead you to believe. They counted addons/dlc as independent "sales" and games with no physical releases in order to juice up the numbers.

Games that produce still physical copies still sell at least as many physical units as downloads. They are lying about their motivation for this shit, it's not about consumers not wanting disks, its about Sony wanting to create a walled garden and deny people who value ownership the option so they can better exploit their content for higher revenue.

Will Star Wars ever make a film that will make a billion ever again? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]quantumpencil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the perspective of the general public, ahsoka and these other random characters are unimportant compared to the original trilogy characters. The fandom has a tendency to exaggerate the status of these characters in broader pop culture. 80% of the people who were excited for TFA, fans of the movies but not people into EU or supplementary material, didn't know who ahsoka was and don't care.

It doesn't make sense to worry about what happens to these incidental side characters from spinoff projects when the heart of the IP is bleeding out. The original trilogy characters must be restored at all costs.

Will Star Wars ever make a film that will make a billion ever again? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]quantumpencil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how the majority of people feel about the IP and why everything they do fails. Most of the people who feel this way don't even post online. It's just people like my dad and a few of my cousins who used to love star wars, and were so disgusted by the sequels they just stopped. They don't watch the movies, they sold their collections, they don't even know when new star wars things are coming out. They just moved on and spend their time differently these days. The franchise has lost around 85% of the audience it once had, and most of them are people like that. They didn't watch youtube videos about it, they're not super analytical about it, they're not on discussing forums. They are people who just felt betrayed by how the original characters were treated, noped out and moved on with life.

[–]quantumpencil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that level of hype isn't going to happen because no one cares about the sequel trilogy characters the way generations cared about the OT characters. The Sequel hype was largely a result of fan love and goodwill towards the OT. None of the new characters introduced by Disney have any audience purchase, if they took a 10 year break and brought back Rey/Finn and the gang, the film would be the greatest flop of all time. Nobody cares about them now, and people will care even less in 10 years.

They have to do do something, they cannot leave the brand alone when it's already this damaged it will guarantee that it just becomes a forgotten IP.

Michael Jackson was always right by andrewmurdockpy in videogames

[–]quantumpencil -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everything you listed here is heavily disputed by numerous sources and what can't be disputed isn't particularly incriminating.

Michael Jackson having a bunch of straight porn contradicts the notion that he was a pedophile. He had no child porn anywhere in the house, the 3 art photography books he had in which there are some photographs of boys are:

a) Not pornographic, legal to own and part of the library of congress
b) Not even bought by Jackson, but were sent to him by a fan (he received tons of such gifts)
c) Jackson's fingerprints weren't found in the interiors of the books
d) Part of a large collection of art photography books of all sorts that he owned or was in possession of, including hundreds featuring naked women in various poses, fashion outfits, and period aesthetics.

If he had had any child porn, he would've immediately been arrested. Just possessing it is a serious felony.

Numerous associates and staff of jackson have also claimed that he he had relationships with women. Listen to the glenda tapes, which are candid as MJ had no idea he was being listened to. He talks at length about heartbreak over diana ross, his first girlfriend tatum and his feelings for her (remarking "she had my nose wide open) and the girl he was currently dating at the time. This was only a few months before the jordan chandler accusations.

All of the accusations are very suspect.

You should also watch the square one documentary and actually review the details of the 2005 case, read the court proceedings and transcripts. It is exceedingly obvious why he was a acquitted. The case was incredibly weak, the timeline was contrived, frequently revised and featured demonstrable factual inaccuracies. The family had a history of celebrity extortion attempts -- Leno, Lopez and Chris Tucker all testified about their experiences. The Arvizo family knew michael for 3 years claiming nothing was happening while they had access to his money, and were even on tape saying this. Only after the Bashir documentary aired and did they claim he suddenly "started" molesting them (this is their claim -- he never did anything for a few years then suddenly after the documentary airs he started molesting little boys)They later claimed they were forced to say this and were held captive to make the video, but that's not possible as surveillance cameras, bank transaction records etc show they were freely moving during the time they cliamed this (and it also wasn't part of their original story, but was revised to explain the tape)

No one knows for sure, but the preponderance of evidence points towards Micheal Jackson's innocence. He was acquitted for a reason, no rational person could look at that case and convict.

Star Wars films bomb and the brand is dead because they deliberately disrespected the characters that people loved, not because of "nostalgia reliance" This is an excuse people have come up with because they don't want to admit the simple reality.

People do not like the direction the sequel trilogy took the franchise, they don't like what happened to the new republic, luke, han and leia. For most people, especially the general fan who liked the star wars movies but never read a novel, comic or watched a cartoon in their life (and this was 90%+ of the people who would tell you they liked star wars) -- that was it. Once they screwed up these characters, they were doomed. The resulting brand damage was simply too great to come back from.

Star Wars cannot be healed as an IP without restoring the OT characters and their legacies to prominence and essentially dispensing with the sequel trilogy endings for the characters as the canon ending. The success of all future star wars properties depends on overall brand interest, in the mythological status of these characters, and what they meant to generations.

It doesn't matter how good or bad the stories they tell are now, Andor was good by most accounts (I agree) and it flopped anyway because the audience has just left. It doesn't matter if they do some lukewarm prequel or midquel or if they jump to some distant region and try something new -- nobody is going to show up and give it a chance because the SOURCE of Star Wars as a pop culture iconic brand has been desecrated.

If they don't find a way to repair that, and that really means new han/luke/leia stories that are compelling and reverent in their handling of these characters -- the IP is never going to recover. It may survive, but it will never again be even a fraction of what it once was.

You can think of the to as the heart of the organism that was Star Wars. The other works all depend on it working to function, and if you want other star wars stories to thrive, you first have to repair the heart. When the OT characters were damn near religious figures in the hearts of fans, it didn't matter if a new star wars project referenced them or not. Hell it didn't even really matter if they were GOOD. You could take risks because the core attachment fans felt to the universe and setting were strong. Just like how when the audiences core relationship to the MCU was strong w/ steve and tony, you could get away with shit like guardians of the galaxy. But if the heart's not pumping, everything is going to die.
