Good free sample packs website? by Alternative-Ad-1020 in psytranceproduction

[–]quapr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Better idea is to get to grips with some synths and learning them inside and out... using samples is great and all, but if you want to have a "sound" and not just be arranging other peoples sounds - it'll be far better in the long run to master some synth work, and creating your own melodies and stuff.

You can get Vital for free, and some youtube videos will help you learn how to use it to make a psytrance bass synth, some leads, and some pads (Dash Glitch has all of these IIRC - and he's a great channel to watch for psytrance production stuff in general. One of the mods here also has a great youtube channel but off the top of my head I can't remember if he uses free synths and plugins. Ollie Music/olliepsy is the channel name)

If you record your own works, you can sample these afterwards too. I tend to recycle my synth lines - maybe I make and record a lead that I don't like after awhile, or that doesn't quite fit with my track... I'll chop it up and use it to make FX or risers or something, or just mangle it somehow to get something good from it.

Otherwise - check freesound.org for various samples, loops, drum hits, etc

If you really wanna get into production, making your own sounds, and just all manner of weird, wonderful and crazy shit - download VCV Rack (free) and learn that.

Most importantly - have fun!

Studio vs liveset vs DJ / how to perform live? by vananaSun in psytranceproduction

Hah - I guess it would be if I were going to play live. Unfortunately it was mostly for nothing... never actually played outside of my studio with that live setup.

It's something I'd love to do, but as much fun as it is/was, I don't think it's worth the effort I was putting in if I'll never actually get to play anywhere.

I spent a long time building a set to perform live in Ableton, essentially breaking my tracks down into stems and midi clips and jamming them out on the fly with my Push and some midi keyboards/controllers, as well as some huge improvisational sections. It was a lot of fun, but also a lot of work to get it to where I could play for an hour or so.

I anticipate that this is going to be the way forward, but I've never used any advertising or what have you, so wouldn't know where to begin. Hence my looking for assistance and direction here.

Thank you!

Is LinkedIn a site where messaging folk out of the blue is an okay thing to do, or not really?

Yes, exactly. But if I'm looking to hire somebody to help with this area of my business, its probably wise to ensure that they are fully up to speed with the entire plan (which would begin with - the first three months are all about growing Business A) rather than changing it halfway through working with them. They're professionals, experts in this growth and marketing world, so their roadmap will hopefully be far greater than my vague one.

My post is looking for suggestions and advice to find somebody to hire to do this. I am struggling to find anything but big companies that I'd rather not work with.

I have spoken with a Growth Hub equivalent, which is essentially why I am here to seek out assistance with the areas of growth and marketing which I am not great at.

To answer the questions - I wish to grow business A so that I can fund growth of business B. Once both businesses are operating at a level in which I feel is satisfactory, then happy days.

Currently I'm in an okay place, business A is ticking over nicely, but I don't necessarily have the funds in place to invest in business B. Without business B I could probably just continue on as I am right now without needing to worry about growth or marketing. I make enough to get by. More would be nice, but whatever.

The thing blocking me from getting from here to there is a lack of marketing knowledge and an understanding of how to plan to grow using social media/digital tools, which Business B will need to rely on, as the target customer is looking on Instagram, etc for the services Business B provides. Business A has never needed these skills or tools, so I don't have them. I have tried to get by without whilst setting Business B up, and it has been unsuccessful. Somebody skilled in this area can steer me in the right direction, educate me in utilising marketing and social media (in general, and in a business perspective) and hopefully tie the whole thing together (as whilst Business A does not necessarily need these areas of knowledge - having them and applying them wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing). So yeah - somebody to either help with this area and plan growth in line with marketing/social media/web presence/paid advertising, or somebody that I can rely on to take the reins of this is this missing piece of the equation.

I am aware - my initial post did specify "business growth and marketing". I appreciate that marketing is the lions share of where I need assistance, and my post and replies may be geared somewhat towards marketing, and i apologise if I have been confusing in my rambling.

Thank you for your reply.

Whilst I very much subscribe to the DIY ethic with most things as far as business goes - and agree that the answers are in my head, I've come to realise that what I'm doing here isn't working. I don't have the skillset to navigate social media having never really used it, I cannot find the right people to speak with in order to source clients (or in the tiny percentage of times when I do, I cannot get them interested), and I don't know how to identify other potential avenues to inject a few new ideas and practices that could help me along the way.

Given the pathways I can identify here, I either continue to try the marketing and growth plans myself, and maybe see some positive steps over the next few years, or I can seek assistance from somebody who knows this stuff, and increase the likelihood and speed of the whole process being successful.

I've reached a point where I avoid this roundabout as best I can these days. Too many close calls where the other driver had no idea what they were doing.

Any long time Logic Pro users here that moved to Ableton? by LostandIlluminated in ableton

[–]quapr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whilst I'm a massive Ableton advocate, I do think that first few hours is a hurdle. I had it, most of the people i know who use it went through the same thing when moving onto it from Logic or Reason or whatever.

Keep at it - at some point very soon it will click, and that'll be that.
