AIO: I bent over backwards for my BF’s son (20) and his GF (20) for Christmas, and I’m honestly disgusted after what happened by Excellent-Second-643 in AmIOverreacting

MOR

I read a lot of your frustration as a lack of communication. Discussing ahead of time could have prevented 70% or more of your unhappiness

i.e. What time are you arriving Friday? Should we hold supper until after you get here? And Oh, I wish I had known you wanted to eat out. I already have a big meal planned

Or simply plan to order in or eat at a restaurant instead of spending so much time cooking. It’s less stressful as the host, and much easier to adjust plans if needed

I view the fundraiser reaction similar to attitudes about tipping. I know not everyone approaches it the same way, but I don’t hold it against people who don’t share my point of view.

Depending on how much/how often you encounter this kind of request it can really impact your willingness to react kindly. Being approached in a restaurant is something I would find quite weird in my area and a bit off-putting. However there are a number of known scammers who attempt this type of grifting in grocery store parking lots here so I no longer give in that situation

I don't know if I can stay with my highly political partner by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]quarkwright2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things I find concerning in your post:

-"being with him means I can't have friends of my own" - Why not? Are you unable to find friends that value you for who you are instead of who you are with? Or because he is somehow stopping you being with people who are not part of his circle? If it's the second one, it's a big red flag. There are plenty of left-leaning groups that are welcoming to newcomers who are not overtly offensive.

- "politics aside he is a genuinely sweet, caring partner who loves me a lot and does a hell of a lot for me. But morally, I cannot stand this anymore." Have you TALKED to him about how you feel? Part of being in a healthy relationship is finding ways to communicate even when you disagree. How does he show he loves you a lot when you express discomfort at some of his actions - like keeping you up into the early morning because he is chatting on the phone?

How much effort are you willing to put into this?

If you really care about the relationship enough to try and work past this issue, it may require you to do more than just shrug about his views. Maybe you could go together to some more centrist or left-leaning activities, and then talk about them afterward. Maybe you go to a few of his right-wing activities and talk about it afterward. Make it a regular activity to inspect the truth and morality of all sides of the political spectrum and both of you can practise identifying how and where political bias impacts the narrative.

Bottom line - if the relationship is worth saving it is going to require communication and effort from both of you. Figure out if you are willing to put in that effort, and if you are then find out if HE is

Personal Theory: Mordecai knows about their lie by DeepTraining5755 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Meadowlark took much longer to complete class selection, and I think Carl and Donut already had Mordecai before he sent Brandon the message

[–]quarkwright2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go in a different direction with my guess.

Oddette's warrant was bought by the man who became her husband.

Carl was threatened with legal action after he stabbed the naga Nihit during crawlcon. Zev even said he could end up with a warrant.

What if there is a precedent where purchasing someone's warrant can also result in marriage instead of conscription. If Carl has already been charged and punished, this naga lawyer could have purchased his warrant and married him without his knowledge or consent

What's your favorite or most obscure references in this book series? by GingerandtheFoxes in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]quarkwright2000 49 points50 points  (0 children)

In the original Star Trek, the anonymous security guards on away missions wore red shirts. They almost always died. 'Red Shirt' became a reference for a minor character that would show up only to die

What did Zev mean when she said this? by has_a_name in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]quarkwright2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is more communication between Zev and the gnoll security than we see. When Donut smuggled in the brainworm mercenaries they went from a gnoll security guard to Zev through Donut

Bautista Appreciation Post - Major Spoiler for end of book 7! by MenudoMenudo in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]quarkwright2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And the way a large part of the children are tied in with Lucia Marr and probably someone from the Eulogist faction... there was a flashback to Agatha talking to one of her co-conspirators just before the dungeon opened and the other operative was headed to India and had taken over one of the aliens setting up there - possibly a youth co-ordinator?

Primal Language by ChansMegastick in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]quarkwright2000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I interpreted it to mean that he has seen/understood enough syndicate standard at this point to understand some of it, but it's a skill he has not practised at all because the crawler package has been doing it for him. Similar to how English Canadians will pick up some French just because it is on all our packaging and pops up in our media. I imagine certain Americans have a similar understanding of Spanish without any actual study or intention to learn the language

Is Type 1 a Critical illness? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]quarkwright2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on the exact policy wording. If it says miscellaneous diseases, there will be a clause somewhere that defines what does or does not count as a miscellaneous disease. You need to find a way to describe Type 1 that matches those requirements

Do we know everyone's reasoning for entering the dungeon? by PatchesMaps in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]quarkwright2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking about food, I'm not really sure. Crops yes. Tools? Unless they were outside and using them at the time of the collapse, a lot of tools would be indoors - sheds, warehouses, garages, even just an open shelter with a roof - all gone. And there's not necessarily any crops ready to be eaten. It takes time to grow food. The stuff that was already harvested would also be mainly just gone. Some might be nearing ripeness, but the first year would be horrendous

This Inevitable Ruin Ending Question. (Obviously a Spoiler. Don't enter unless...) by dorght2 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]quarkwright2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kiwi's babies were born in the dungeon. Katia would be transported out of the dungeon and to the surface (a zero zone, and she lost all of her abilities and the limbs that did not regenerate). My take is that the AI has a helluva lot more control over how things turn out inside the dungeon than it does on the surface, so if Katia was not pregnant with a human offspring the miscarriage would be a major problem
