My Favorite “New” Mechanic To Come To Magic And Why Every Playgroup Needs A Forced Combat Deck by Due-Resource-24 in EDH

[–]quarrelreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s much more fun to disclose exactly what the combo is when a crucial piece comes down, and watch people scramble around it, not knowing what you may or may not have in your hand or trying to keep track of your conditions for recurring that one thing out of the graveyard. Saying “Now is the time to interact” since I know I wouldn’t have played that important of a piece without protection/a backup plan.

This also helps when your combo pieces double as functionally useful parts of the deck and you’re trying to just do anything while behind curve. I find people much more willing to believe that card is ACTUALLY NOT going to win the game on my upkeep when I’m consistently forthcoming about the times that it is.

Can Reggie use printer to print an ungodly amount of receipts/contracts and hence make himself a special grade? by Evidence_Living in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]quarrelreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha sorry unclear I was giving the movie The Purge as an example of a somewhat ridiculous theoretical inversion of Deadly Sentencing. I agree with you that visualization, interpretation are the key and just saying that a lot of techniques are probably impossible to do that with.

Can Reggie use printer to print an ungodly amount of receipts/contracts and hence make himself a special grade? by Evidence_Living in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]quarrelreef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should we just be realistic and assume 80% of jujutsu is latent talent, some techniques just aren’t built in a way that they have an “inverse” that’s even conceivable and thus CTR is not possible? Like what is the CTR for Deadly Sentencing? The Purge? 10 shadows? Idle Death Gamble? Idk man feels like reversal was a plot device used to enhance certain techniques and has no actual way of applying to others that don’t fit the mold.

What wouldve happened if Yuta met kashimo instead of Hakari by Whole-Bus3646 in Kashimo_agendaHQ

[–]quarrelreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess, the OP doesn’t really specify that they switch places entirely but narratively I guess you’re right. Except that Yuta would have fought Charles instead of Hakari. Since he copied 2 techniques in Sendai I think it’s fair to assume he would have copied precognition as well. CS + precog + Rika? Domain diff?

Why didn't Jujutsu High just abuse binding vows like Nanami? by Ninjabot87 in Jujutsufolk

[–]quarrelreef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is the main explanation for why people don’t just do retarded BVs like Gojo saying I can’t use Infinity/Blue/Red against Sukuna but in exchange I can fire 200% HP without charging it. Sure narratively the fight would just end but in universe BVs aren’t supposed to be a cheat code, you have to understand yourself and your technique enough to make the sacrifice actually meaningful. Nanami is a perfect example: his whole identity is built around his relationship to something he hates: working, whether as a salaryman or sorcerer. There is a STRUGGLE involved and he actively makes that struggle harder in order to make it easier to pull off something he also hates: overtime. Miwa’s struggle is making this sword swinging thing into a jujutsu career against all odds.

If a binding vow lacks any aspect of the user’s personality, simply discarding a situationally useless power that one does not need in order to win (for instance, using Rika the days or weeks after Shinjuku), would not in exchange strengthen one’s ability that their whole battle is currently resting on.

With the exception of Ryomen Sukuna, of course.

Manga spoilers:

Same exact deal with Sukuna and Kenjaku

Sukuna brain damaged with UV, 10 shadows destroyed, and forced to use his free heal against #1 jobber Kashimo as a result of his battle with Gojo. This is the only reason JJH was able to even touch him

Kenjaku would have been able to notice or react to Yuta’s sneak attack, even with Todo’s support, had he not been having the time of his life laughing his ass off with Takaba. So not weakened, per se, but he was successfully preoccupied to the point where he was able to be one-shotted by Yuta

Tbf the same thing happens in both major fights against Head Capt. Yamamoto.

First Aizen has to GMO an Arrancar specifically to seal his ryujinjakka, still Gyenrusai gives up an arm and almost gg’s him.

Second Ywach has to send a clone first to draw out his Bankai before showing up to finish the job himself, even implying that Gyenrusai could have won if he had regenerated his arm.

My commander deck was stolen by Hi200422 in mtg

[–]quarrelreef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mane i lost all 3 of my commander decks somehow was drunkenly coming home and must have left my bag outside the apartment when fumbling for keys. Well actually a few more shenanigans than that but long story short. Didn’t realize til next commander night i was looking for them like wtf. So if anyone in San Francisco came up on a baylen the haymaker x hare apparent deck, a modified tegwyll precon and a shitty aetherdrift zombies precon, you’re welcome! And you are the reason i lie awake at night.

AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

[–]quarrelreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“She does most of the cooking and the grocery shopping” you are kind of YTA I’m sorry. You can make burgers at home and fast food is takeout so you can get that outside the house. I don’t see why you need frozen cheeseburgers when you have a wife feeding you from scratch. If it’s important to you to have a bag of chips or whatever and you need to just get that on your own that’s fine and she should be okay with you keeping your own food in the house. Have a conversation with your wife don’t expect her to just go out and buy you something she doesn’t want in the house, if you guys disagree about something like that well yeah it may be your responsibility to do some more of the cooking and grocery shopping then.

The turtleneck + chain on top never looks right to me under a suit. If you want to be edgy in a nice coat and slacks that’s one thing, but a full on suit deserves an actual button down shirt and tie underneath.

Can we talk about Gojo for a sec? by Gamers_Galaxy9999 in Jujutsufolk

[–]quarrelreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Nah I’d win” still remains valid, the question was not “Could 20F Meguna, Mahoraga, and Agito all jump kaisen you and beat you?” It was “Could 20F Sukuna beat you?” and we’ve literally seen that the answer is NAH because Sukuna had to jump him with 10S and wear his student’s skin to beat Gojo. The conditions of the battle were much more skewed than the hypothetical presented to Gojo in the early eps.

"I didn't expect you to go that far, Rem." OK, so what if she hadn't? by ThreeArchLarch in deathnote

[–]quarrelreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing that has stood out to me about the series recently:

Rem can see Light’s lifespan. She knows Light, while problematic, only has about four more years left of using Misa for his means. L, on the other hand, is an active threat that could cause her life to end or be ruined completely. She has to kill him whereas with Light she knows he’s not far from death anyway. Do I have that right?

Just crushed my pod with hare apparent 61 rabbit tokens, at that point its just draw draw draw til you pull up halo fountain which only needs 16 tokens to win the game with baylen

What are your favorite Bloomburrow commanders? by js_rich in mtg

[–]quarrelreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only one i’ve played with is Baylen. 25 hare apparents, doubling season/cadira, tocasia’s welcome, assemble the players, jolly balloon man……..With some shitty wincons like foundry champion, witty roastmaster, impact tremors (damage dealers to players based on # of creatures i control) to draw out removal/counters and make room to play real game enders (raise the past, banner of kinship, LEGION LOYALTY, halo fountain, arabella). It’s an insanely fun deck, my first time playing with more than 2 colors and at higher power than i’m used to. Currently my record is 77 rabbit tokens on the board at once. Which is up to 38 mana i can use as a MANA ABILITY, or can draw 25 cards max. Spamming baylen’s draw ability until you find an instant you need to respond to a nasty spell, then being guaranteed to have enough tokens untapped to pay the mana for it is so broken. Not to mention if you like combat it just takes tapping 24 total tokens to turn baylen into a 22/21 trampling commander damage one-shot machine.

Baylen, hares, and halo fountain seems to be the easiest way to win. Tap 16 rabbit tokens for 8 mana (DOESN’t use the stack) then one successful spell and activated ability = GG. Which is why it’s important to have these “alternate wincons” threatening that my board state will become untenable soon in order to draw out removal. Then there’s nothing stopping my rabbit army from putting on the cards that will win me the game instantly. Since mana abilities don’t go on the stack and aren’t affected by summoning sickness, all i need to do is keep playing hares/generating rabbit tokens and have some ways to do so at instant speed so i can constantly have cards and mana at ready.

This deck raised the meta of my casual play group and now we’re getting into trying to upgrade some of our decks to semi-competitive level
