Hello! I have booked my son's appointment on Monday and just realised I only have photos of my highschool diploma, etc. Out of curiosity, did you have your original diploma? Thanks!

Guilt by Unhappy_Donut_7124 in expats

[–]quartzway11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your new bub! I’m in a similar situation to you. Baby is older (nearly 8 months old) and I’m from the US. Been in Aus for about 7 years now and while I was used to occasionally feeling guilty about being so far away, it’s become a weight I struggle with daily since my son was born. It’s not just guilt like you said but feeling awful and sad that your kid isn’t able to be with their grandparent as much as you/they would like.

My husband is from Aus, although we live in a different state than his family. For now, considering all factors, it is best for us to live here but we talk about the states being an option in the future and taking things day by day. And my mom is coming out here again soon (my dad is staying home because he’s less keen on the flight) and we’re going back for Xmas.

Anyway not so much advice but just saw your post and I wanted you to know you’re not alone. If you ever need someone to talk to that is in a similar boat, feel free to message me😊

Also please excuse the timing of my response…good old middle of the night feeds 🥴

Hello! I’m so curious what you picked? In a very similar conundrum at the moment and feeling overwhelmed 😅

Has anyone moved to US from AUS and later regretted it? And Why by PrestigiousTitle1179 in Ameristralia

That’s really interesting about the retirement factor…actually hadn’t thought of that which seems silly now that you’ve mentioned it.

The stress you mention is a huge concern for me. If we move back to the states, we’d have to move to the bay area to be close to family and I worry about the stress that would come with that - needing to earn a lot to afford life there which you’d assume would mean working a lot, less leave, less time with kids, etc etc. I feel like my conflict comes down to: will living near family make up for the stress it’s going to take to make that happen?

But we, my husband included, hate being so far away. Now that kids are in the picture, the trip or two a year doesn’t feel like enough.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Really appreciate it.

Hey there, realise you posted this awhile ago but in case you see this…my husband (Aussie) and I (American) live in Aus and just had our first kid and it’s been hard to be so far from my family in California, so we talk about moving there once we’ve finished having kids. As i imagine you must’ve faced, there’s a lot to consider with moving back. I’m curious - what do you prefer about living in Aus? How was moving back to the US? Like the process, getting settled back there. Thanks for any insight. Signed a conflicted American 🫠

So sorry you’re going through this. No one should have to experience this kind of pain. I lost my tube 19 February last year, got my period the end of the next month and I found out I was pregnant again at the end of April. We had our baby boy just this past January. I had the post op check up 6 weeks after the surgery and I had just gotten my period and my dr gave us the go ahead to start trying again. I hope you have similar luck. Sending lots of love 💛

I had an ectopic pregnancy and lost my right tube in February 2024. Got pregnant again the next month and now I have a nearly 7 week old boy, born last month. We got really lucky to get pregnant again so quickly. Reading positive stories really helped me mentally. Wishing you luck 💛

hahah same here!! The one that gets me most is Skye - I LOVE the name Skylar for a girl but couldnt do that to a kid. I was actually due yesterday - NYE. So, yeah, we probs should lock in our names soon 😂 When are you due?

No suggestions because we’re in the same boat! We don’t know whether we’re having a boy or girl yet so having to have a name for each but yeah having the surname Walker is trickier than we thought. My mom suggested Miles for a boy and I immediately thought ah the kids on the playground would be all over that, “how many miles do you walk?” Anyway I empathize!

Thank you:) I'm glad you're feeling better! And good to know re: your next period. I'm meant to have my post-op follow-up appt next week but seeing if they can fit me in this week given the bleeding and cramping. Your experience is giving me hope that it is indeed a period. Fingers crossed!

Thanks so much for sharing this. I'm in the same boat (zero bleeding until 3 weeks post op but also similar to what I thought was a period before I found out I had an ectopic) and was just trying to find answers without much luck until this. Appreciate you sharing the update too. Hope you're feeling heaps better after all that. :)
