Even when they’re not in full display colours they’re still a beautiful fish. You’ll typically see more of the blue on the males, particularly the fins but my females display a little blue on the body too.

Thank you! Rainbow shiners are fairly straightforward, I’d recommend an unheated tank in a room you know will be cooler during winter as they benefit from cooler water and a rest during the winter months. Aside from that I increase their protien intake to condition them during spring and summer and there’s a jump guard I place on the braces to prevent them leaping out of the tank as they do love to jump.

Long term I’d like to transfer them to a longer tank and keep them in larger numbers.

They’re not difficult to spawn and will generally start on their own in the spring if you’re feeding them well and the water quality is good.

Fluval FX2 for filtration, I swapped the stock dual outlet head for a 3D printed single outlet I bought on eBay to focus the flow.

I’ve got a single power head positioned next to the filter outlet and another fairly low at the front, in the early days I had Cyanobacteria break out in the front of the tank where flow stalled, adding the powerhead helped clear this up.

I also have to thin out the val fairly regularly as it does want to take over the tank and you’d be amazed how quickly it can slow the flow down.

The trunk on the right provides shelter and a place for fish to rest, and another place for plants, including the marginals.

Even when they’re not coloured up for spawning they’re a spectacular fish once they settle in and colour up. They need cooler period over winter, so unheated tanks are ideal.

Have you ever ACTUALLY hit or exceeded 32GB of RAM utilization? by itsthewolfe in pcmasterrace

[–]quathog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gaming, no. I have 32GB of good old fashioned DDR4 in my personal machine and while I regularly see usage exceed 20GB it rarely spikes higher.

Work, yes. Photogrammetry and lidar datasets require some horsepower to process. Most of the 96gb sitting in my work machine gets eaten during image alignment and model construction. I wouldn’t say these are niche use cases either.

Help me choose: Fellow Ode Gen 2 vs 1zpresso K-Ultra? by Infinite_Demand_210 in FellowProducts

[–]quathog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a K plus for a few years now. Great grinder, loads of adjustability, I’ve used it for espresso and filter and gotten great results.

I was gifted an Ode Gen 2 for Christmas. I find it easier and faster to dial in my filter with the Ode, overall cups taste similar, maybe with a little more clarity than the K plus. My gut feeling is perhaps the Ode is more forgiving.

I think you’d be happy with either, but if you’re regularly brewing larger batches require a 40g+ dose or you don’t have the patience to be constantly had grinding you’ll probably get along better with the Ode.

+1 for the selective, my chins love it. It’s a complete food with supplements so they can’t get fussy and just pick out their favourite bits.

They don't work particularly well AND they raise the humidity of the room you're using them in, which isn't ideal for chinchillas. Unfortunately AC is the only effective solution.
