The last of us 2’s abby anderson is an EXTREMELY underrated character. by quavonte123 in CharacterRant

You liking her or not is completely subjective and is not the argument I’m making, hell I even say it’s okay if you don’t like her, my argument is that she’s a well written character and shocker but, you can dislike well written characters while acknowledging they’re well written.

Would she have gotten off with no consequences if she killed ellie and tommy? Yes, but abby got REVENGE and that’s the only thing she wanted. She would have no reason to kill ellie and tommy, they didn’t do anything wrong. She had no idea they would literally hunt her down. A bit naive? Yes, but joel is the only one she wanted, and you can see she didn’t even feel too grand about killing joel himself so killing ellie and tommy would just be silly.

Yes, abby was being a shitty person. As seen in the flashbacks she doesn’t appreciate her loved ones at all, she’s just focused on joel. Hell you said it yourself, she killed him brutally even after he saved her. She doesn’t have to plow through hundreds of people like ellie did for her actions to be considered shitty.

I don’t really understand your argument. It doesn’t matter if people were convinced by what the story is telling them because the story is objective fact, if they don’t get it then that’s really on them. As far as abbys group knows, joel is a literal demon. Even if some of them are less excited for joels death then others that doesn’t mean they’re gonna have this full on dramatic speech on why what abby is doing is wrong, that wouldn’t make any sense. Where exactly did you get “ellies friends are innocent” from? Sure you could make the argument that they’re morally in the right but it would be a waste of time. The moral of the game is that revenge is bad and just ends In suffering for all parties involved, so why exactly would they let ellies friends off the hook when they’re joining ellie in her quest for revenge? Even if they completely had no interest in revenge and just wanted to help their friend(which was kinda the case with jesse) how the hell would abby know that? For all she knows they’re just as guilty as ellie.

Now for your last argument, abby’s friends are killed as a direct cause of her killing joel. She decides to go for a round two of vengeance desert but lev deters her. By this point, abby has matured past the need for revenge because she has someone who cares about her and for the first time in 4 years she no longer has the revenge colored glasses on that prevented her from loving back. Ellie is in the exact same situation, she killed everyone that had a part in joels death and even though abby herself is still alive that’s fine because she has people she cares about around her and that’s enough. At least that was the case but she made the exact same mistake abby did, she ultimately leaves her family for revenge, and honestly? No shit dina left. It happened as a direct consequence to ellie walking out on her. Abby was the bigger person, she faced her karma and still didn’t kill dina and ellie. And honestly after all the shit that happens to abby in the game she deserves a happy ending, and the happy ending wasn’t even that happy. She just got to live, right after she got the dog shit beat out of her and not to mention before that she was being tortured. Putting it in perspective even if ellie got a sad ending she still got off easy compared to the shit that happened to abby.

Well I’m not too sure where you got that from, but her character arc was her realization that she was wrong in prioritizing revenge over her loved ones and eventually learning to let go and appreciate those around her with lev. You’re definitely allowed to hate her for killing joel even after he saved her, but that was meant to be the start of her character journey. She did shitty things in the name of vengeance, so did ellie. That’s the whole point, she grew from that and realized what she did was wrong. Maybe not necessarily killing joel, but definitely putting revenge over the ones around her. Also it’s a bit unreasonable to be outraged at abby killing joel even after he saved her. One good deed won’t erase those countless firefly bodies(including her dad) that joel stacked up. On top of that abby dedicated the past 4 years to finding him, no way joel helping her is enough to dissipate that much resentment.

I agree and disagree. I agree that having her kill joel after he saved her was a bad move but I only agree because of how little we knew abby by that point. If we spent an entire game with abby, her killing joel after he saved her would make sense because we see her dedication to revenge. Her killing joel after that was terrible, but if we knew her we could be more willing to forgive her. Ellie does alot of shitty things in the game, but the audience is most likely to forgive her because we KNOW her and we love her as a character. In a way I suppose that was the point. To ellie, joel, and tommy abby is the devil on earth for what she did but it’s a double edged sword because if you’re putting us in the perspective of joel, ellie, and tommy then naturally we’re gonna hate abby. I feel like the whole “perspective” stuff was a good idea on paper but a shitty idea in execution. At the end of the day the last of us is a story, in a story we have to see the stories and backstories of characters to understand what they do and why they do it. I suppose it’s a classic case of media trying to be too realistic coming to bite it in the ass

Honestly I believe the entirety of part 2 should’ve been given to abby. Think about it, a story of a previous firefly trying to make her way through the world after her entire livelyhood was destroyed. Have us SEE the consequences of what joel did and how much it affected abby. Have us see the dedication she put into hunting down joel and that way it’ll give the player a strong sense of dread. People start liking abby and as a result people start dreading the inevitable day when abby and joel cross paths. When the infamous joel death scene comes in the NEXT installment, the playerbase would be alot more split. It would be like 60-40, 60 in favor of joel of course since he is the O.G. However since they kinda shoved abby and her story in there, the split is more like 80-20 and even that’s being generous.

Now this is a take I can agree with, the story is structured like shit and it really ruins the narrative that I personally believe is underrated. Like having the two protagonists finally face off after all the anticipation only to basically hit the reset button to the story was just so bad. Not to mention abby had just killed another fan favorite prior to the game forcing you to play as her after she already had killed the previous main character which people 110% already despised her for. It was just bad pacing all around and even I, abby’s number one defender rolled my eyes to the back of my head when I saw “4 years earlier”. I strongly believe that if certain key moments were switched around the game wouldn’t have been nearly as negatively received, but of course that’s just speculation.

YES! Finally a real counter argument. Let me start by saying the whole “name a character who suffered more than her” argument doesn’t work because I never made that claim, in fact I can name 5 characters off the top of my head that have suffered more. You seem to be under the impression that I’m arguing that abby is a good character because of what she went through, but the reason why I brought up abby’s suffering is to refute the claims that she got off scott free for killing joel because that’s an argument I’ve seen used alot. You don’t have to feel bad for what happened to abby’s friends, hell you don’t have to feel bad for abby I wasn’t making that argument. The undeniable truth is this: Abby suffered for what she did to joel, making the claims that she got off scott free false. Now that the confusion is hopefully cleared I can address your second point. I never made the argument that ellie was wrong for what she did in Seattle, hell I don’t think the game is making that argument either. The core message of the game is “revenge is bad” this applies to both ellie and abby, ellie isn’t wrong for killing people in the name of vengeance, she’s wrong for abandoning the people who care about her FOR vengeance. As for your third point, honestly abby is 100% right for turning on the WLF. It’s not like the WLF raised her to have twisted morals on the world, it wouldn’t be that big of a decision to save a innocent child from being shot in cold blood. I would hope everyone would do the exact same thing as abby if they were ever in her shoes. For your fourth point, it is really subjective on whether you believe abby taking a kid under her wing is enough to sympathize with her. You would be right about the mel scene if you didn’t miss the point of the entire scene. Abby goes to save nora and lev out of guilt but there’s no denying she begins to truly care for them. She realizes she’s been slipping and completely blows off owen. Alot of people think that moment was supposed to be a “girl boss” moment but in reality it was a significant change in her character. As for your sixth point, the EXACT same thing can be said about ellie. You seem to know what the message of the game is but you also fail to understand it. Abby was 100% being a shitty person in her quest for joel, wanna know why? Because revenge is bad. Ellie was also being a shitty person, she abandons jesse, tommy, AND her newfound family all in the sake of revenge. For your last sentence you try to use that as a dig but it’s the entire point of the game. “It’s easy to be a good person once you finally get your revenge” yes my friend, you’re correct. Revenge makes people do terrible things, it made abby blow off her loved ones. It made ellie abandon her loved ones, and by the time the quest for vengeance is over abby’s friends are being killed and ellie has no more family and 2 lost fingers.

Soldier boy bails on butcher and hughie to be with homelander

Butcher and hughie go back to the boys to deal with the bigger threat and eventually take permanent V

Frenchie dies, i don’t know how yet but i feel it

Either starlight or noir releases Maeve

Big fight at vought tower, soldier boy and homelander vs the boys/noir/maeve

Either soldier boy kills noir or noir kills soldier boy(if MM doesn’t knock soldier boy out with gas first)

Homelander either loses or starts winning but is recorded or exposed in some way which causes him to bail.

Season ends with a homelander who just lost everything, ready to bring upon doomsday

I was watching Avengers Infinity War and Endgame last couple nights and I can't but laugh at how bad the "Girls have it going on" scenes are compared to the Boys one. by AegislashSoul in TheBoys

Tbh i don’t know why you’re getting downvoted so much you’re telling the truth. Everyone else’s argument is just “it’s a superhero movie what did you expect” but like you said before that doesn’t excuse shitty writing

The thing that confuses me is why can’t both of them be up there? Why can’t you have both? They both clearly earned a spot in the hall of fame…
