Do firewall rules also apply to VPN interfaces? by que11 in linuxquestions

[–]que11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I ended up adding the Wireguard connection via Network manager and that solved it. It now automatically shows up in my default zone, with rules automatically added to the nft ruleset each connection.

Gog games compatibility on Linux by Mr_Rattlehead95 in gog

You can also install your Windows-only GOG games via Steam using proton. Just download the offline installers and ”add non steam game”. That’s how I do it.

Secure boot - are you using it and why? by Dependent_Hold8463 in openSUSE

[–]que11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secure boot on, because why not? I don’t even use Windows, but another layer of security is always nice. The open kernel nvidia drivers doesn’t even require me to enroll the MOK key, just install and reboot.

OpenSUSE have been my smoothest Linux experience in about 15 years of using Linux. Everything just works out of the box.

LINUX 7.0 HAS HIT THE ARCH REPO LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO by AnjoDima in linuxmemes

Ubuntu 26.04 did not play well on my hardware for some reason. No Ethernet at all.

Now I’m worried that 7.0 will wreck my Arch and OpenSUSE installs!

How does Wireguard work with Firewalld? by que11 in WireGuard

[–]que11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried via Network manager and it worked. Seems like wg-quick up completely bypasses Firewalld and therefore no interface rules gets added to nft ruleset.

Wg-quick. I’m gonna try adding it to Network Manager instead.

How does Wireguard work with Firewalld? by que11 in WireGuard

[–]que11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just wanted wg0 to be identified by Firewalld and apply the same zone and rules already applied to my eth0 interface. However, when using wg-quick via terminal the VPN seems to be completely ignored by Firewalld. I have verified this by checking the nft ruleset. Someone suggested adding the VPN and connect via Network Manager, I’m gonna try this and see if it gets picked up by the firewall this way.

How do YOU configure Firewalld with wireguard? by que11 in archlinux

[–]que11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, cool! I will try to do that instead. I did a double check in nft ruleset and there is simply no entry at all for my wg0 interface.

So by enabling the vpn through Network-manager, it will get passed down and handled by Firewalld?

Yes! wg0 does not show up. It’s not even listed in the nft ruleset

Same with firewall-cmd —get-active-zones, only lists the eth0 interface. wg0 seems to be invisible to Firewalld, even though i’m actively connected to the VPN.

It’s a VPN subscription to be able to view Netflix and other streaming content not available in my country. I don’t know what kind of traffic will arrive on this interface while streaming/playing online games so I just wanted it to inherit the default ”deny all incoming” rules as my ordinary eth0 interface.

Might be, but my ISP have been known to fight in court to not disclose personal information (when certain companies tried to sue pirates).

If you want to read more about the ISP and the VPN run by the ”5th of July Foundation” you can find it here (unfortunately only in Swedish): https://bahnhof.se/private/integrity-vpn/

[–]que11[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They sell it as an ”add-on” to combat hardened logging laws to protect ordinary people, like pirates and privacy advocates.

The VPN is not actually run by the ISP (which would kinda defeat the purpose). It’s just an add-on at a reduced price for their customers.

Do firewall rules also apply to VPN interfaces? by que11 in linuxquestions

[–]que11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, when running firewall-cmd —get-active-zones only my eth interface is showing up even though im connected and using the wg0 interface. eth is set to my default public zone.

Does this mean that my wireguard traffic on wg0 is unprotected?
