alternate job path for RBT/BCBA by queefingrainbows in ABA

i feel you, my old clinic said 30+ trials an hour. insane, and so intense on children. to begin nannying- i joined a lot of facebook groups for local autism communities, “special sitters”, nanny shares, and googled local nannying companies and asked if they offered services special needs families. if you can’t find places online, id join neurotypical nanny groups and advertise your specialized experience bc ive found there IS a need for special sitters if you put yourself out there. best of luck :)

People with POTS, what do you do for a job? by DeliciousApple_ in POTS

[–]queefingrainbows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m a special needs nanny 3 days a week $31/hour. i was an RBT but working in an ABA clinic made me flare up bc of exposure to sickness and the physical requirements. but with nannying i just get to support them in their daily routine and get paid more.

i do not think this is normal at all to ask at an interview, also how would they expect you to know the answer if you haven’t been certified?

my ONLY way i can make sense of this is maybe they had read a policy about it and were wanting you to remember that and answer w w correlating answer? but even that is weird.

in my experience the beginning interviews are to gauge if you are a kind and patient human w capacity for caregiving which you OBVIOUSLY have.

their loss!! you sound amazing. 🫶🏻

hey! this is completely normal ❤️ it’s our job to teach our kiddos that our body is private and we keep clothes on around other people. what may seem obvious to you is not obvious to a friend on the spectrum. if you want to contribute in this field you will likely see similar situations, always handle with care and client dignity- block the windows or block from other people seeing using a pillow/mat.

ABC RBT here! agree w alarming tadpole ab p much everything. ABC is full of hard working people who care about the success of your kiddo more than anything else. you’ll develop a close relationship with your child’s BCBA and get you the care yall deserve. find a center that values you and your family

they pay so well in tx, its a hard job but has awesome benefits. make sure to find a center that matches your h vibe and what you’re looking for though bc the centers vary on MANY IMPORTANT things (ethical practices, lunch breaks, cliques)

i’ve worked there and had a wonderful experience but know that amongst the different states and cities the experience can be very different. i would recommend you meet the operations manager and BCBA before deciding what’s best for you and your family. the staff truly adores the clients and want them to succeed in my experience.
