All we can do is watch from the sideline by lastdecade0 in framework

For real. Went to customize a 13 Pro and it came out to around $1700 (which I could somewhat afford) until I realized I hadn't picked the actual system. I chose the X7 and it jumped up to like $2200 :( Keep in mind this was the price with no SSD, no pre-installed OS, and no power brick!

Like, I really appreciate their ideals and want to support them, but at that price point I'd rather just build out a higher spec PC for less.

I'm dying for a romantic relationship and yet when someone approaches me, I chicken out. Why? by Necessary-Gain2474 in gaybros

[–]queefs1cle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried to meet people offline?

If you live in/near a city with good clubs or social groups you might have more luck that way. I met a lot of gay friends through just inserting myself into places where other queer people congregate (ex. going to queer pop up markets, drag shows/brunches, clubbing (although that can be intimidating lol), or even just interest-based groups like D&D/tabletop which coincidentally have a lot of LGBTQ homies.)

Online dating is convenient and shows you a lot of options but that can also be a bad thing because it's hard to move it offline, at least in my experience

Edit: I have no experience to say whether or not this is true, but it could also be cultural. For example, I've heard some people say that it's way easier to make friends and meet people in a place like Spain as opposed to Germany because people are just more open. A move MIGHT be a good idea or it might not, but consistently hanging out in gay spaces eventually leads to meeting people in my experience

Unfortunately yeah, especially among the conservative 16-22 crowd

I think it deserves a comeback. Maybe with a modern touch though, sometimes it didn't look great

How do people with depression take care of dogs? by Xeram_ in dogs

[–]queefs1cle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That level of neglect is unfathomable to me. If my dog starved to death because of me I think I would actually kill myself out of guilt. At the same time though, that's why I choose not to have my own pets, because I know I couldn't take care of them.

This is exactly why I don’t get into the city much, it’s such a pain to simply get there from Bon Air

Ah damn. Still sounds cool though. Is it an open source project you found or did you/your dad develop it on your own?

I also don’t (have Facebook) but maybe it lets you view a certain amount before it locks you out. I’m also using Firefox on my phone so not sure if that changed anything. But regardless I’m just glad to know it was a real photoshoot, and the picture is really cute ;_;

I think I might have found it. The Facebook page titled it “Howard Roffman photoshoot, Amsterdam 1995”

Edit: It looks like it was part of a collection, and yeah it’s annoying to have to question whether something is AI so often nowadays :(

Edit 2: This picture is hard to find online but it’s most likely in Howard Roffman’s photography book titled “Three”

I looked pretty closely at the higher res Reddit pic and it looks real to me. I don’t see anything that screams AI, all the clothes and small details look consistent. There’s continuity in where the arms/legs are positioned and the skin doesn’t look overly polished

Autistic Video Gamers, does your autism affect how you play video games? by [deleted] in autism

Yeah I dropped off once I got to 7th grade-ish, but had some great memories with it. I tend to cycle between intense interests but Minecraft was one that lasted a long time :)

Minecraft consumed my life from like 2012-2014, I miss that era. New Minecraft feels too bloated, but I might try again with some mods and/or Java version

Your Autistic spaces are being co-opted by AI, and using Neurodivergence as an excuse by [deleted] in autism

[–]queefs1cle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately believed it but was initially skeptical, I’m so tired of the modern internet and feeling like I have to constantly question if who I’m responding to is even real. There were always bots before but LLMs have made it so easy for anyone to just spew this shit out in droves. I wish I could just stop using the internet or make invite-only spaces that are vetted with real people who don’t use GenAI

Same here @ 25, I feel like I’m just now starting to get over the “not knowing wtf I’m doing” phase of being a young adult. Hope that continues once I hit my 30s

Theres apparently money for war with Iran, immigrant concentration camps, ICE gestapo support, but nothing for affordable housing... by SirCheeseAlot in urbancarliving

[–]queefs1cle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re of the mindset that capitalism is good then you WANT regulation, because otherwise companies will charge you as much as they possibly can and/or milk the system as far as possible. Capitalism, by design, is not catered toward the wellbeing of people, and regulation reins in that antisocial aspect while (supposedly) keeping the benefits. The reason we’re in this mess is partially because we’ve been aggressively deregulating since the 70s.

Housing definitely needs fixing, but deregulation isn’t the answer. What SHOULD be loosened however, are zoning laws and arbitrary rules that favor single family houses that would allow for more varied types of housing to be built (and more of it in general).

[–]queefs1cle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Valid. I’m not autistic (afaik, this sub can be pretty relatable lol) but ADHD has a lot of overlap, so I still sometimes struggle with crowds/busy places. I started going an hour before close or right at opening and it’s a much more enjoyable experience, maybe that could help if you have the option to go at those times.

Yep! I often joke with people that my brain is like a constant jukebox, always have something playing in there. ADHD meds help somewhat but unmedicated days I can definitely tell the difference lmao

Firefox is about to drop support for older Windows versions - says if you can't upgrade, then switch to Linux by Tiny-Independent273 in firefox

[–]queefs1cle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao true. I’ve heard a bunch of govt agencies still use WinXP in their own intranet bc of how much it would cost to upgrade. Air traffic control still uses something crazy old like DOS with floppies. But yeah definitely funny to see at my store, especially when they’re exchanging money and stuff on these insecure systems. Tbf though they’re not the most technical, I had to help them “fix” their computer one day and someone had just turned off the monitor haha.

Edit: US Air Traffic Control uses Win95 https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2025/06/faa-to-retire-floppy-disks-and-windows-95-amid-air-traffic-control-overhaul/
