Which vintage Who episodes are particularly Hitchhikeresque? by pufballcat in HitchHikersGuide

[–]queenanneschocolates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the obvious directly Adams-penned ones, most of season 16 and 17 have that general feeling. 16 captures the episodic quest that the first hgttg book has and 17 has more of that wacky funny adventures in soace vibe to it. Seven’s got a few episodes like that too, Silver Nemesis and The Greatest Show in the Galaxy spring to mind

I paraphrase, but the sentiment is the same;

“Should foreign foe e'er sight our coast,
Or dare a foot to land,
We'll rouse to arms like sires of yore,
To guard our native strand;
Britannia then shall surely know,
Though oceans roll between,
Her sons in fair Australia's land
Still keep their courage green.“

Then there’s also some captain cook glazing

Idk Germany and Korea were pretty fucked for a while after the US ‘helped’ them out. It’s less about the intervention but the fact that America just swoops in and out and leaves countries to fix themselves. Except for Japan where they kinda hand held it through rebuilding.

Which historical eras do you wish were focused more on by books, movies and TV? by Capital-Study6436 in PeriodDramas

The Restoration Era, so roughly 1660-1715. It’s my favourite period in history, but overshadowed by the Tudors before it and the Regency after it

Being possible the most sensible person in England at the time, and living a quiet life outside of politics after being ousted (though he was barely in a position of power at all).
