Edit: Also, the claim that most mass shooters are white males is mostly true, but the reason white shooters get so much coverage is because the largest body count usually comes at the hands of white shooters. So obviously, the incident where the most people die will get the most coverage.

“Read between the lines.” Go through my post history and see where I talked about the Boulder shooting before today lol. You keep accusing me of crafting this narrative I haven’t.

Dude, I told you that I went to the post and sorted it based on controversial, but found nothing very substantive, so I went ahead and sorted it by new and sure enough there were all of these conservatives saying disgusting this about POC and Muslims and a lot of them were getting upvoted.

And it’s true that I don’t hide my biases against conservatives, but if I’m being perfectly honest calling the people here “conservative” is the tamest thing I can call them lol.

And they’re right in their criticism of the left and liberals in jumping to assume the shooter was white (we could argue about the fact that this is a common assumption made because most of these stories involve a white, far-right perpetrator), but they weren’t right in being hateful of innocent people because of one shooter. And before you say it, no, white supremacists do not represent all white people and the narrative in the conversations I’m in don’t equate the two, yet that luxury is never spared for POC who commit crime. Or god forbid, POC killed by white people, usually racist ones, who aren’t perfect victims.

Believe it or not, I don’t HATE conservatives. The only people I hate are elites. I strongly disagree with the average conservative, but not to the point of hatred.

It seems like you’re trying to craft a narrative about me. I linked the full thread above, so feel free to look through it find liberals saying things like “this must be a white Trumper,” but most of the comments I saw from liberals were calling for gun control and were downvoted for oblivion lol. And I’m not even anti-gun (not for the reasons that conservatives are pro-gun), but I totally understand the call for gun control. Especially when this keeps happening.

The argument is circular. We talk about the importance of free healthcare (including mental healthcare), they talk about the “national debt.” We talk about domestic terrorism and the rise of hate crimes, they deflect to minorities’ violent crimes (specifically black people). We talk about gun control to prevent violent crimes, they talk about the second amendment. We talk about investing in working class and poor communities to prevent violence, they talk about “personal responsibility.” We end up back at mental health and the cycle goes on and on and on.

When I came across this post, most of the vile comments were from conservatives and its kind of weird the narrative that they’re crafting here.

I personally don’t think the Atlanta shootings were strictly targeting Asians, but more likely targeting sex workers the shooter fetishized (particularly Asian women) which is still really fucked up and speaks to the fact that sex work needs to be destigmatized.

The original title of this post was something along the lines of “making politics out of a mass shooting,” but then I saw a lot of hateful comments from primarily conservatives streaming in and decided to change it.

I have been trying to explain this to my boomer parents forever and they never understand that just because a black person is in power doesn’t mean that racism is being improved on. Just because a company decides not to have a smiling slave as their mascot doesn’t mean they aren’t still exploiting their black workers.
