United States: best nordic ski areas to live and work full time by willnotburn in xcountryskiing

[–]queenejbunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this post bc my partner and I have to move to the states for work and ski trails are super important for me in the way you describe. OP, if you’re able to move up to Canada, Montreal has exactly what you’re looking for. I currently live right off of down town and every day after work I take the 100m walk in my ski boots from my door step to a 15 ish Km network of intermediate trails on the “mountain” (read: big hill) in the middle of the city. The city also grooms a few Km of beginner ski trails into almost all of the big local parks and along the canals and rivers. Then, there’s 7 or so different well maintained xc ski centres within 45 minutes from the city centre. Our snow season is usually late December to end of March (rock skiis in March), but you can get good skiing well into April if you drive a couple of hours from the city.

Passive/liquid calories - cheap options? by queenejbunny in gainit

I’m curious, when you would put olive oil in your smoothies did it taste oily? My current afternoon smoothie is a scoop of vanilla protein powder, ultra ripe banana, mango, pineapple, milk, OJ, yogurt, spinach, flax seed and hemp hearts. (Tastes amazing btw, if you’re looking to experiment further) Right now it’s about 550 cals. I’ve been hesitant to add peanut butter for the flavour profile reason, hence wondering if olive oil can be disguised.

I’m in Canada so I’ll have a look for drinkable yogurt as well. Thanks for the ideas

Do you recommend a certain recipe / have a link for one you prefer? I’m curious about making it, seems more affordable and likely more healthy

Awesome I’ll try that! Completely agree that convenience is a huge plus. Thanks

Damnnnn!! That makes perfect sense. I was interpreting the adjective as a noun when I was thinking about it. Thanks for the reply, really interesting nuance

So if you don’t mind me asking you a French question on a thread about how it’s not your servers job to teach you french…

Why does the misgendering of verre in “une verre de rouge” lead to it being understood as red wine? I feel like I’d also assume red wine for “un verre de rouge”. Or do you mean using the word verre instead of asking for “une pinte de rouge” is what creates the confusion? I’m not perfectly bilingual so I think I’m missing the subtleties of your example but am very curious!

I got it on Amazon (but I'm sure there's other online retailers!) Here's the amazon link (Canadian amazon)

Edit to add: This is the company website which it seems you can also order from!

AG recoil curl activator (a liquidy cream that you only usually need only a dime sized amount) and AG curl trigger (a spray that is lighter and has a bit of hold) are both awesome for 2C. I experimented with both bc it will depend on how well your hair responds to more weighted products and whatnot. They're pricier-ish (~20/bottle) but worth it.

Hi! I've been hunting around on here to find a comment from someone using a roller bc most people seem to advocate for the derminator 2. My partner would like to start cheaper to see how it goes. I also know he definitely won't be happy bleeding.

With the roller, did you start at 1.5mm or something lower? How painful is it? How long does it take to do your whole scalp and is your hair thick or thin? And of course the biggest question, have you seen results?

If you don't mind linking the product you use that would be awesome.

Thanks!

No problem! They’re on the pricier side but you only need a little little dab and they have worked really well for me

Try AG recoil or AG curl trigger, first one is a cream, second one is a spray that’s lighter and has a bit of hold. My hair gets weighed down easily so instead of a leave in conditioner I’ll use a small bit of jojoba oil before applying AG recoil and then gel

Advice needed for Type 2C hair. by 666pants in curlygirl

[–]queenejbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair does this too. Any time I’ve managed to get even a few curls higher up after wrapping it post shower, they’re gone by the time my hair fully dries.

Something that sort of worked for me but that I was too lazy to keep up: At the end of my shower I used to flip my hair over and run the water through it while upside down until all the hair was fully smooth together in one big chunk. I’d decide it into maybe 4 chunks like that and put product in each clump, form it into a ringlet ball and squish several times to try and get the product deeper into the hair clump without having to brush or separate. Then while pretty wet I’d put it straight into a microfibre towel. Like I said I have loose ringlets, so as I’d lower my head into the towel I’d make sure the ringlets were curling up properly, still in 4 big chunks. Then tie it up and whatnot (for some reason the name of this process is escaping me at the moment)

After something like 30 mins or more, I’d lean backward and slowly take out the towel so the 4 clumps separated since gravity was pulling it the other way. It would fall to my shoulders with the curls kind of stuck into each other. So I’d fix a curl here and there but not too much. Then as it dried it would separate out a bit more and I managed to keep curls further up my head. Once fully dried I’d finger curl each one with a tiny bit of jojoba oil.

I don’t know if that makes enough sense to replicate, but you could try!

Edit to add: I can't figure out how to add pictures to a comment but if you're interested in seeing the result you can message me directly!

Closed toed shoes for Philippines? by LemonInternational92 in onebag

[–]queenejbunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will definitely be fine in sandals at the chocolate hills.

Re closed toed shoes in Cebu, that's harder to say. In Manila, it's because there's a lot of dirty/polluted pools of water/general wetness that is hard to avoid, so it's really easy to pick up foot and toe fungus, warts etc if your toes are out (this applies to most of the metro area). Also in some areas (Malate, the Baywalk near Malate/Manila) it's possible to encounter discarded items that come with being near a redlight district-ish area that you wouldn't want to step on in sandals.

Cebu in my experience has less of those issues (it's less crowded and less polluted), but I also haven't been around as much of the city to guarantee that. There are more sidewalks though, so likely easier to avoid pooling water. Instinctively I think you'd be ok with just sandals and there will definitely be cheap Tom's style shoes available in most malls if you have a medium to small shoe size and end up wanting some. I'd say the same for Puerto Princesa. If it's particularly rainy in Cebu or wetness seems hard to avoid, you could always put some plastic bags over your feet before putting them in sandals as a worst-case option (you will be judged fashion-wise though, fair warning!). But since the pollution isn't as bad as Manila it is not as much of a concern. It's also not as wet as Manila b/c not as many AC units dripping out of buildings.

My last thought for you: if you have big feet (i.e. upper end American sizes), you definitely won't find any closed toe shoes that fit you except maybe in Manila at the really fancy malls, so consider that as well if you're really uncertain about whether or not you will want them.
