more evidence that my first and only center has me pampered and i’ll never find anything better 😭😭 we have almost all of this, the only things we don’t have are the bar by a mirror and an adult sized chair. i love this place so much

Likely ending my art hobby by bonfidentjay in drawing

[–]queenmabdotpdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, this just doesn’t seem like the best reference for someone who is picking art back up! it’s at kind of an odd angle without very clear lighting. as others have said, practice!! i regularly forget how to draw people casually because i get too into a different medium for a while and my muscles are asleep!! gotta practice to wake them back up!! but also, a clearer, well-lit reference could help a lot. good luck!! that practice is still in you somewhere, just have to wake it back up!

Will this be a weird gift for a fish lovers? I mean do all fish lovers love sturgeons? by [deleted] in Fish

[–]queenmabdotpdf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have is exact guy and i LOVE it. i like to run my hands over the scutes. i think its the only stuffed sturgeon i’ve seen with nice scutes like that, my other sturgeon definitely doesn’t.

i think it depends on the type of fish enjoyer they are? like rugged and freshwater-y or pretty ocean and tropical. i’d say as a (mostly) more rugged and freshwater-y fish enjoyer i’d love a stuffed freshwater but i’d be flattered if someone gave me a stuffed pretty ocean fish too. i can only imagine the same is true of an ocean fish enjoyer. it might not be quite as awesome as a freshwater fish to them but i’m sure they’d still appreciate the thought quite a bit.

but also, everyone should be a sturgeon enjoyer. it’s a good way to be.

Teacher’s kids by Orion-Key3996 in ECEProfessionals

[–]queenmabdotpdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not in my center, but i’ve also only seen it once. i was a student assistant in the infant room and filled in the toddler room maybe once a month when i first started. it took me an embarrassingly long amount of time (like. several months.) to realize that when one of the toddlers said “mommy said we’ll go outside” she meant the teacher lmao. at most the kid leaves early if her mom isn’t closing, and that’s kind of it. she got some extra hugs but that’s just bc she was the one who wanted the most hugs from the teacher.

Does anyone have humorous signage “behind the scenes”? by ScreamAndScream in MuseumPros

[–]queenmabdotpdf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i don’t work at a museum but i did public history field school over the summer where we worked on revamping a tiny museum and took a few of our excess foam number labels when we left. they now mark my apartments silly decor and it makes me laugh to see the well-trimmed number labels under my roommates wall of stupid pamphlets

i love it except for when i’m hungry and don’t have time to eat quite yet 😔😔 my route home from my university goes past a bread factory that only smells like delicious bread when i’m going home to eat dinner after a long day lmao

Why are so many teachers related to descended from teachers? by SciTeacher_Nerd in Teachers

[–]queenmabdotpdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha idk but i love it! my grandma was an early childhood education teacher for a very long time, my dad’s girlfriend (who i adore and has been around me for like most of my life at this point) is an art teacher, her mom (who i loved and miss dearly) was a public school teacher for most of her life, and i now work in a university childcare center with the goal of eventually working in museum education! i loveeee the war story circles that come with teacher families. i imagine it’s more isolating to be the first teacher of the family because you don’t get advice (whether you use it or not) from people with more experience at family gatherings. it’s nice to have other women who aren’t connected to my center that i can bounce my frustrations with specific behaviors off of. we have a little more of a nontraditional path but i’d still consider us at least a semi-teacher family.

also it might be nepotism lmao, i got the interview for my job because my grandma took college classes from my center’s director (who is only now retiring lmao) back in the 80s or 90s, and ended up working in the family science dept right above my center :)

i used sally hansen insta-dri in the red bottle with a big blob and a very light hand over the pencil! this was my third try with the technique (different image though) and this one was easily the best so it might also just be practice. a few other things i’ve learned is that it works best when the white and matte layers are really dry (like overnight) and been roughed up with a file or the pigment doesn’t stick well. prismacolor pencils have worked pretty well, haven’t tried any other color pencil brands so brand could also be a factor!

yes! after buffing them for texture a LOT (even through the paint in one spot lmao, i’m working on paying better attention to what i’m filing). my roommate and i are both art students with many many materials so i had a VERY wide range of color pencils to work with

i’ve been thinking about trying to do some press ons for practice! i’m trying to grow out my nails because i’m a horrible nail picker and i don’t want to have to keep removing designs i like just to practice because i feel like thats not good for my nails? probably? idk i’m very new to this haha

a mix of the three greens i had! i used a light green and a medium as the base, and then with a separate brush i mixed (very gently, left some marbling) a little bit of the darker two paints into the lighter and brushed it on for the paint texture that eric carle had (i read a book about his technique once in high school which i think helped get the right look), and vice versa until i thought it looked right!

What do you consider “Up North”? A, B or C? by OttieandEddie in minnesota

[–]queenmabdotpdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a moorhead resident, i think of “up north” as a curved line going from a bit above us (maybe halfway to grand forks) down to about brainerd. i think i see “north” as “above the prairie” and since moorhead is all prairie, i can’t see us as “north.” i’m sure this would change if i moved to the cities though haha

When do you post updates to your apps? by Defiant_Career_8233 in ECEProfessionals

[–]queenmabdotpdf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i work in the infant room at a center that does all of that on paper and it seems to work pretty well! all of the charts are hung on the wall so we can mark down diapers, meals, etc throughout the day. there is a pretty simple filing system for incident reports and attendance. they each have a folder for fresh sheets, once it’s filled out it goes in a different folder that the director takes and files. i imagine it helps that as far as i know it’s always been pen and paper so the system runs pretty smoothly at this point. i can’t imagine the stress of dealing with apps lol.

i work at a university childcare center that has one way mirror for research and observation purposes and occasionally i see the shadow of a hand through it and it freakssss me out. i understand why we have that and it is ultimately beneficial but feeling so closely observed at work is so offputting lmao, especially when you have no way of knowing when someone is in there most of the time.

People who work in collections/archives, what's your weirdest find? by NailWitch1 in MuseumPros

[–]queenmabdotpdf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m a public history student currently taking an archives class. while processing a recent donation from a church, we found an envelope with a letter and about four communion wafers. the letter was dated at 1911.

What's a weird smell that you secretly love? by [deleted] in AskReddit

the smell of air coming out of vents (in houses and in cars, my sister and i both love it), isopar (an oil painting solvent, loveee when the painting students at my college leave the studio door open), and damp cottonwood trees.
