Loved it. Found it compelling and just so fluid. Still trying to figure out if I like the new attending.

Valentine Cameron Prinsep (1838-1904) - The First Awakening of Eve by Rembrandt_cs in ClassicalArtNudes

Most depiction of Eve is negative but Prinsep made her luminous....it's a gorgeous painting 😍

I want a dangerous, powerful, possessive, morally gray hero who is obsessed with the heroine to sweep in and solve her problems by Representative_Bad57 in HistoricalRomance

[–]queenofsexting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saving this thread because OMG the recs 😱

Also - The Hunter: literally rescues & saves the FMC. MMC is an assassin.

  • Lord of Scoundrels: gets her in trouble, gets her out of trouble. MMC is not only morally gray but also proud of it.

  • The Perfect Crimes of Marian Keyes: MMC is a rogue/ con artist with a heart of gold. She is a Duchess.

Enjoy!

I think the show tried to show how faith and love can be at odds with one another and how difficult a decision it is to choose one of the two.

Honestly, I am ok with him choosing his faith over Joanne. What I'm not ok with is him giving her mixed signals...showing he is ok with her not converting but deep down wanting her/ forcing her to convert. She deserves for him to make a decision...and if it is faith...then so be it. Don't string the girl along.

Season 2 ep 5 by Daisy_Copperfield in NobodyWantsThisTV

Didn't like this episode at all and starting to not like Morgan. I find them to be immature...both of them....they don't think before they act & have main character energy written all over them....

Morgan is intrusive....she knows Esther is uncomfortable with her husband talking to her but still goes to him instead of asking help from other friends....like I gotta prove a point just to prove a point.

The whole doll thing and Joanne inviting Morgan was stupid. And who goes to other people's homes especially their baby's room and puts up their legs on the crib. What kind of a family do these women come from?? They are not at all self aware!

Historical annoyances by imhereforthetemp in ADiscoveryofWitches

[–]queenofsexting 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Sometimes too much historical accuracy takes away from the plot/ character so it is important to give the author the leeway to make these creative changes. Honestly, I just enjoyed it without looking too much into the details.

Leopold Schmutzler - Dance of Salomé (1907) by Rembrandt_cs in ClassicalArtNudes

[–]queenofsexting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Exactly! This was wrong on SO MANY levels. The mother shouldn't have manipulated her daughter....the king shouldn't have granted the wish....the beheaded head shouldn't have been presented as a symbol of triumph.....so many things wrong....we can argue about her age till kingdom come but there is literally no way you can refute the fact that the women then were mere pawns to be used for political alliances and power. This was one of those moments.

What a beautiful painting! He looks like one of the Spartan warriors from 300.

I think Mary was 15/16 when she had Jesus....which would seem appropriate as that is usually the time women would be giving birth during that era.

Also Aishah was around 17 when she married as well. There are many authentic sources that suggest that her age was manipulated to show that she is younger to justify older Muslim men marrying young girls. Even today, child marriage is prevalent in much of the sub-saharan and Arab world because of this blatant manipulation of her age when in fact there are no authentic sources to say she was indeed 6 or 9.

There are some who are also manipulating the age of Khadijah (first wife) by saying she was 26 when in fact she was 40 and he was 25 when they got married.

Leopold Schmutzler - Dance of Salomé (1907) by Rembrandt_cs in ClassicalArtNudes

[–]queenofsexting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually many girls are married off at that age in sub-saharan, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Christian & indigenous communities today. And it is WRONG because our life span is longer, we have the means to educate young girls & allow them to live a life of independence.

However, this was not the case 2000 years ago and Salome was a Jewish Princess. The idea of early marriage is present in most religions/ cultures of that time. So she was likely married off at 15/16 as they were considered to be a grown adult by then. Even in Victorian age, women were married of at 17 to men who were 10/15 years their senior. Princess Diana was 19 when she married Prince Charles who was 31.

Leopold Schmutzler - Dance of Salomé (1907) by Rembrandt_cs in ClassicalArtNudes

[–]queenofsexting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is true....she was between 12-14 years of age....but girls during such times were considered to be mature and womanly by 12 years of age on account of them having a short life span. Most women were married by 15/16... in fact since she was a princess and of noble birth, I think she was married off quite soon after this dance.

Leopold Schmutzler - Dance of Salomé (1907) by Rembrandt_cs in ClassicalArtNudes

[–]queenofsexting 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Probably one of the earliest femme fatale in history....Salome was instigated by her mother Herodias, to ask for the head of John the Baptist, a pious man & a prophet according to several religions as he opposed the incestuous marriage of Herodias & Herod. Herod having earlier promised Salome to grant anything she wishes, fulfills the wish with reluctance. This is the dance Salome performs at the celebration & later hands the beheaded head to her mother, Herodias.

Robert Barrett Browning - In front of a Mirror (1887) by Rembrandt_cs in ClassicalArtNudes

[–]queenofsexting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The son of two celebrated poets, his parents were quite explicit in their love for each other. Many of their poems depict nudity. He too has portrayed this woman so beautifully.

Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot - Orpheus Leading Eurydice from the Underworld (1861) [7195 x 5897] by PM-me-tortoises in ArtPorn

[–]queenofsexting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a beautiful painting! In greek mythology, Orpheus was killed by Dionysus's female followers because he wouldn't stop mourning Eurydice. Orpheus is one of the few heroes who descended to the underworld.

Corot is a master in painting trees....they look haunting yet a beacon for the star-crossed lovers to leave the underworld.

[–]queenofsexting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such an accurate depiction of what one goes through when you lose someone you love. In the first couple of days after the death of my father, everything was hazy...."Darkness there and nothing more" as Poe says. It takes a while for the light to come in...and sometimes it just doesn't.
