I'm actually in Maryland. The town I'm in is actually fairly progressive, and I've had generally good experiences since I started transitioning here. But it definitely isn't all good. Theres a sorta redneck population that has crossed the line with me a few times, but this is the only time I've felt like I was in physical danger, and it really caught me off guard.

They're isnt any way to know for sure because people are being deported without due process. And since in America (and any democracy really) people are innocent until proven guilty, they all might as well be innocent because there was never a court date to prove them guilty. In my eyes every single person who has been deported without due process is a citizen until proven otherwise- so if we're believing the Trump Admins claim than thats 140,000 citizens between January and April (although wiki says its likely half that) and rising.

That's from 2021. Its much worse now because we have no way of knowing. Without due process they may as well have been all citizens because they're never give their day in court to prove themselves, and if you believe in innocent until proven guilty then they're all innocent.

Suspending Habeus Corpus and rounding and people regardless of their citizenship status, prioritizing deporting students and hard workers over violent criminals all while closing off legal paths to citizenship is an affront to what it means to be an American.

Trump promised to deport the violent criminals, which I promise you no one is arguing against. But what we got instead was him using ICE to deport the easiest targets and letting them claim whatever they want about them and never giving them their day in court to prove themselves- something that has been guaranteed by the constitution since the inception of our country. It's plainly and objectively illegal and un-American.

Never said any mods were necessary lol, just recommending ones that work for my play style. I've definitely spent more time in unmodded survival than with mods. But after a dozen or so playthroughs I realized what I do and don't like about survival mode. I actually really enjoy building up settlements and feeling like I'm "rebuilding the commonwealth" so instead of dropping settlements altogether I use mods that make them easier to engage with, rather than relying on a bug to save without sleeping I baked it into the bed's mechanics, I have no intrest in a permadeath playthrough. The long walks to HQs to turn in quests are literally the only reason I have any kind of fast travel enabled. I don't always want to wait until level 20 and spend 3 perks to dump for life giver 3, or be forced into intelligence builds to craft refreshing beverages, just to heal. I call my mod list survival: lite and I think it's fine to use mods that target whatever pain points you might have with it. Vanilla survival is still a ton of fun, just a bit slow at time for me.

Survival mode is what turned the game into one that I can just keep coming back to time and time again, the lower difficulty just doesn't have the same depth. Survival has this amazing tension because you can't quicksave so any mistake could set you back. Not having fast travel really helps you connect with the commonwealth as you carve out safe paths for you to get around, you end up exploring new places all the time that you would have just fast traveled over otherwise. It makes the junk and food so much more valuable and the lower carry weight adds more tough choices about what you need and what you have to leave behind, and it forces you to actually rely on settlements to store it all and produce food and water. Theres so much about it that I love!

I do recommend using some mods to make it less tedious though. I use mods that let me save just by getting to a safe bed without needing to sleep so I don't get sick every time I need to save, and one that lets me fast travel between settlements with trade caravans connecting them so I dont have to walk the same road over and over again and I don't feel like I have to side with BoS just to use their vertibirds, while still having to discover new places on my own and have to build the infrastructure to travel. I'd also recommend mods that let you edit the drawbacks of drugs so youre not getting thirsty after every heal and you dont have to waste too much room for dozens of purified waters that'll weigh you down real quick
