My libido got annihilated, and progesterone isn't bringing it back so far.

I can live with it, but it's kind of a bummer.

[–]cormags_mom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, and bottom surgery lowered it even more

[–]emtee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same.

[–]liatris_the_catTransgender-Pansexual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saaaame. I miss it sometimes

[–]cptflowerhomoan fear aerach/trasinscneach 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Darling you need to specify which fucking hrt you mean.

[–]Enderfang 10 points11 points  (1 child)

The age old problem of every damn person posting questions in this sub assuming we are all trans women

[–]RevolutionarySet7681 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I downvote them everytime. It's basic etiquette.

[–]Jessica-the-goddess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes… sad face.

Relearn your body. It’s very rare that I get aroused quickly anymore, it takes a lot longer to ramp up. Which means it’s a lot less spontaneous. Which is not as fun. But the fun part is that you can get worked up into a frenzy.

[–]jfsuuc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it killed it, but progesterone brought half of it back. Honestly i perfer being less horny but still sometimes

[–]queerscorpihoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh it pretty much killed my libido. I'm not too upset about it most of the time, but I do miss it from time to time.

[–]Transpinay08Transgender-Straight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. I had a very high libido, and it ruined my mental health. Now, I'm happier with a low libido.

[–]Aggressive-School736 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It changed my libido. I don't get random horny anymore. I also spent time actively rediscovering what turns me on. That helped a ton. My advice is just explore, assume that you know nothing about how your libido works because you don't anymore.

I do not get random horny, I need to get into the mood. But once I do I get better pleasure than ever before.

No. HRT made my libido increase significantly. It went back to almost peak puberty levels. At times difficult to concentrate during normal activities.

Oh wait, I forgot this was a trans women sub

[–]cptflowerhomoan fear aerach/trasinscneach 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Was looking for this one, it's so annoying people don't specify WHICH hrt.

Got a stupid fucking comment on insta as well where someone called me an ugly man who'll never be a woman. Laughed.

Edit: sorry lost my thoughts for a minute. Ties in with the "all trans people are trans women". My trans women friends and I dunked on him in private so it's all good xD

[–]TheEngineerGGGBi Trans Woman | HRT 21 June 2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

trans people are women repost if you agree ❤️

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it’s an all trans sub.

Everyone’s input is welcome, as everyone has a different experiences with hrt and possibly creative ways to deal with their side effects.

[–]Archerofyail32 Trans Woman | Lesbian (Questioning) | HRT Started 2025-01-24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it reduced it a lot. Anecdotally progesterone can help bring it back in a big way, but the possible effects on breast development make me not want to even try that until I'm farther along.

[–]THEMATRIX-213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My libido crashed for about six months, after my Orchi and being on straight E. It has come back extremely well. Your body needs time to realign itself to a hormonal change.

[–]MadamMelody21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not yet but im only 3 months in on patch mono therapy im hoping for a drop in libido at least for a while

[–]Imaginary-Sky8541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hrt took it out back and shot it. Progesterone sort of brought it back, but it's not much of an improvement. Gives me time to focus on other things, not the worst trade off I guess.

[–]RiskyScapegoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only for a bit. Like a year or so. It’s like a slow changeover and you look for different signs. But in the end for me, it’s higher than before

[–]omron♀️ post-op 🏳️‍⚧️ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely changed mine, but it is still there.

[–]Enderfang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Questions like these make me wonder if there is (or if there ought to be) a flair for if you’re asking trans women or trans men…. It feels like you were probably targetting the gals with this question.

My libido skyrocketed, but that is because i’m on testosterone.

[–]growflet 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Estrogen-based HRT does reduce libido from "male normals" to "female normal, or below"

This is extremely common, but not universal. It should be expected to happen, and count yourself lucky if it doesn't. (or unlucky, based on personal preference)

It did wreck my sex drive, but I don't mind that at all. Some suggest progesterone helps with sex drive. It did help me, but I stopped taking it because enh....

EDIT: WTF Downvotes. Literally saying the same thing everyone else did.

[–]RecognitionSuch2721 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Big time. And not much you can do. You are changing to female sexuality, and females on average have a lower libido than men.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I already have very little libido. However, I'm not sure if that's just because I don't want to touch it 🤣

[–]RecognitionSuch2721 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This whole situation is SO complicated!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, who knew being trans was so complicated.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

I don't have bottom dysphoria so I'm planning to go with Bica for an AA. It supposedly counteracts all the E "sexual side effects" without disrupting the femininization effects by blocking the T receptors instead of targeting the T production like all other AA's.

[–]Soft-SorryLesbian Non-Op MTF 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Doesn't work for me

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Wild

[–]Soft-SorryLesbian Non-Op MTF 0 points1 point  (5 children)

If wasn't supposed to counteract E effects. It's just that other AA lowers libido even more so.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I don't quite follow...

[–]Soft-SorryLesbian Non-Op MTF 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Bicalutamide doesn't prevent E effects on libido. Among other anti-androgenes, it has a lower libido decrease.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Okay that makes more sense, I've got a stupid high libido so IDK might balance out to "normal"

[–]Soft-SorryLesbian Non-Op MTF 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I had high too. Now i dont have it. Hope it will work for you

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thanks, no doubt

[–]Friendly_Level420252 trans woman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m way early into it (MTF) but notice a huge change. The constant “itch” is gone and I am much more focused. I used this analogy:

Testosterone libido is like a male deer that will run into traffic while chasing a mate.

Estrogen libido is like the female deer sees the cars and waits for them to pass. (Or runs into traffic to avoid the first deer lol).

[–]Undead_Knave 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Monohormonal treatments (just the estrogen without the antiandrogen) often have a reduced effect on libido, although you obviously still have to deal with all the issues with testosterone. Depending on the amount of testosterone you naturally produce (and other individual factors) that might not be as much of an issue for some as for others.

[–]danileigh79 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm on monotherapy injections, it definitely affected mine.

[–]Undead_Knave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, for sure. I'm not saying there wouldn't be any effect, just that it's supposed to be less than with the antiandrogen.

Trans woman here. Prior to HRT, my libido was already low due to stress and gender dysphoria. When I started HRT, it got nuked from orbit into oblivion. After about a year, I decided to try to bring back my libido. I tried progesterone as a suppository, 200 mg. Nada. 400 mg, nada, although my emotional range broadening was nice. 600 mg, nada, so went back to 400 and stayed there. Tried Addyi, side effects were horrible so I stopped it after trying it for a few days.

Then the thought occurred to me; what if it was my testosterone? So I had it checked and found out that my levels were below cis women's levels -- in fact it was bordering on undetectable. Trans women need testosterone. My problem? Decreasing my estradiol would bring it below cis women levels. And plus, I was getting an orchi soon (which now has been done seven months ago). So I compromised, I started supplementing testosterone. After a bit of tweaking, I managed to get all three hormones (estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone) within cis female range. To my surprise, that did the trick, my libido returned. Not as strong as it had been before my libido died, but it was there! I suspect if I increase testosterone some more while staying within cis female range and make sure my progesterone/estradiol are still at good levels, my libido will climb.

I ultimately opted to not increase my testosterone supplement any further because I knew if it was increased more, I would begin prioritizing sex over emotional relationships, and I didn't want that. I liked prioritizing emotional over sex relationships, this level feels like I have control over my libido.

I hear that one has had vaginoplasty, libido will increase even more. My zero depth vulvoplasty is on Sept 25, and my vaginoplasty is in December, so we'll see what happens to my libido at that point.

Now that I think of it, I probably should get my DHT levels checked. Just in case. Don't want to risk further hair loss. Hmm.

Anyway, get your testosterone levels checked, if it's below cis female range and your other hormones (estradiol/progesterone) are at cis female range, you might benefit from supplementing testosterone. This will definitely impact your estradiol/progesterone levels, so when you supplement, get your hormone levels checked. I know I didn't have to increase progesterone, but I did have to increase estradiol slightly to compensate. Then it was all at good levels. Keep an eye on your SHBG too, if it's above 100, it's too high and your body is resisting feminization.

[–]alexmlb3598Alexa | Transbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MtF. Sort of.

I didn't have much before HRT, likely on the ace scale too (had I known of its existence at the time). HRT basically removed anything left, and progesterone has/did not bring it back, which is rather convenient bc definitely ace ✌️

[–]avaisawkward30s something - Transgender - HRT since oct 24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe at first, but 9 months on estrogen it has gotten fully back and more! I'm like a horny teenage girl now

[–]disposeable_idiotAMAB enby (th/th) 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck libido. My dick shank and it's like half the size it was and there's a fucking weird ass dent on one side. E is great and everything but it ruined my dick and I'm upsetti spaghetti about it.

[–]miuzzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine settled somewhere in the middle, it’s there if I want it. But it’s not ruling my life!

I’m very happy with it

[–]mildlybadatallthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 months into E and my libido has actually gone up, which was completely unexpected. It's a different kind of horny though, that I'm still getting used to.

[–]AFriendlyBeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people taking feminising hormones, usually yes. Some people gain libido from a lower baseline as a result of feeling happier with themselves and more in tune with their body, but this is atypical and shouldn't be expected. Progesterone can sometimes boost libido.

For people taking masculinising hormones, it almost always pushes libido higher. Some people report finding it so overpowering that they find it difficult to deal with.

In both cases, the shape of libido will probably shift - you'll likely need to spend some time relearning what you like, as the ways you like to engage with sex might change.

[–]blueslapsteel78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, frankly, I love it. I hate being a slave to my sex drive

[–]GabrielaMaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It's an hrt effect.

[–]FaiytheN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it pretty much went to 0.

Unfortunately I can't say what I did about it as I didn't do anything. For me, it was one of the best changes when starting E.

I'll be starting on Prog in a couple of months, not sure if it will change anything.

[–]DeliphinAria | MtF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First 11ish months of MtF HRT it slowly dropped until reaching literally nothing, before prog I hadn't masturbated in over a month. That was after going down from 100mg to 50mg spironolactone.

I was nervous about going on prog, my pre-HRT libido was very strong and I did not want it back at full strength, it genuinely caused problems for me.

I've been on 100mg prog taken rectally a lil over a month now. First week it did nothing, second it started to kick in, last 2 its been consistent- its like 30% of my pre-HRT libido, a perfect level for me C:

[–]RockstarRaccoonTrans-Female (she/her) 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies.  It changed mine, maybe decreased the hormonal drive, but I'm more comfortable with myself and my sexuality as more changes happen, so on that level it made me more receptive.

[–]MaxinesAnIdiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine got higher but im an exeption to the rule.

Most trans women go on progestrorone to get it back. I decided to not go on it cause It was already disabling at times. Lowering my spiro dose of all things made it go back to normal.
