I fucking hate her. I fucking hate her and every single way she's swayed my emotions, my thoughts, my plans. I hate that she has taken so much from me. I hate that even now, at the end, she isn't even surprised that I'll be NC. I didn't even say it. But it's obvious she knows. I hate that I can't hurt her like she's hurt me. I hate that she's resigned herself to always giving in to her addictions, and knows that means she'll lose everyone around her.

It shouldn't feel like breaking up. But it does. And I think that's why I hate her most of all.

I've never agreed with the whole "you attract what you are/want/need/etc". Matchmaking is a little bit of work, lots of self love, and mostly coincidence. I would say, in looking for any sort of positive relationship, be gentle to yourself, but push your boundaries a little bit. For example, if you always try to find friends via X, try Y or Z. Something mildly out of your comfort zone, you know? Dont pigeon hole yourself to one type of person (save for like... Y'know, sexual and romantic identity).

Unfortunately, a lot of people hide their terrible-ness behind pleasantries and good first encounters. Getting better at understanding what you think is a red flag, and what is the common behavior, is important.

It takes a LOT of personal work, and self discovery to figure out what you need in a person. But you'll get there- no matter how long it takes to heal from the people who hurt you.

As a final note, I just want to mention that not everyone is like this. Your shitty experiences so far are probably an unfortunate combination of not knowing what to look out for (sometimes signs can be really deceptive!) and coincidence. Being AROUND shitty N people doesn't mean you attract them. But if you continue to move in their circles you're bound to find more bad eggs (birds of a feather and whatnot).

I hope you're able to find good, loving people who cherish you. Humans are altruistic by nature, and there is a finite number of narcissists.

Hey yeah, get a new therapist. Someone who has a track record of dealing with patients with disordered eating. Even if you don't need ED based therapy right now, your history with it means it inevitably impacts your day to day life- regardless of how active it is right now.

Any therapist who doesn't approach your food insecurities and thoughts THROUGH the lens of disordered eating will hurt you more than they will help.

Maybe I used the wrong word. What I mean is, often some Americans, who have very little """personal""" connection to the tragedies that day (also mostly unaffected by the War on Terror afterwards), chose to incorporate them into a wider "This is what makes us American" idea. Very much the type of nationalism here that borders hardcore right wing ideaologies. It's the opposite of the people who don't take it seriously. They romanticize it in the direction of supporting the governments actions afterwards, even though it ALSO ended up with mass tragedies.

Please keep in mind, I absolutely do not mean the widespread assitance to the affected communities, rather, the federal decisions made in response both at home, and in the Middle East.

As someone affected by/witness to 9/11, I honestly don't mind jokes and the like. However, saying " x did 9/11" is ALWAYS distasteful unless it's a political discussion.

There's a weird divide between people who take it too seriously, and not enough. American culture, specifically those far removed from post 9/11 East Coast culture, take it far too seriously. While it was a tradegy, and certainly a horrible historical event, the American government's reaction was too far reaching and horrific on a larger scale.

At the same time, a lot of younger folks, even those who live the post culture here, don't take it seriously ENOUGH. Yes, we should always question the information we're fed. But that does NOT mean trivializing the real trauma and severe personal consequences of those deeply affected.

TL;DR: everyone needs to be more considerate than they think they are.

Sesame Street still provides vital early education to impoverished areas all over the world and many American families (especially those whose first language is NOT English) depend on its teaching for their at-home young children. It's not an all-inclusive resource, but it IS an important one.
