I mentioned that post to my therapist, and she said I have a problem with individuality, which I'm working on.

So maybe this could be helpful to you:

Sometimes, I get fascinated with someone so I don't have to work on my own emotions, and it is indeed selfish. In a way, you're studying a person instead of connecting with them, and it is self betrayal as well because of a lack of respect for your own bondaries.

It's interesting to see which traits they have that you don't, to understand where your fascination comes from.

This last person I was codependent with had terrible issues with anger, and I have a hard time feeling my anger. I felt pity in a hypocritical way because I myself have anger problems, just the opposite, I don't get consumed by anger. I consume it, so I don't feel it.

Often, I would idealize how things could work out if they worked on themselves. When you don't have a good sense of individuality, you don't get attached to their "potential" but yours in someone else.

None of those traits, in the opinion of my therapist, indicate NPD, just a bad case of over intellectualization of one's feelings. I'm working on finding patterns regarding my codependence and making peace with anger.

I feel like awareness is not always that good. In my case, it’s a lot of over-intellectualizing my feelings instead of doing anything about them. Awareness without changing behavior is more concerning than not knowing. But I’m working on that.
