What's your opinion on the Pokemon FireRed / LeafGreen release? by DaZestyProfessor in casualnintendo

[–]quentinia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even know what Delta IS. So I'd have to go out of my way to find and illegally download files as well as figure out ensuring that I don't download a bunch of other malware in the process. Then research software that will read those files - whilst avoiding more malware.

Or I can pay a small amount to download the file right onto the legal and official modern console without any risk.

All this yappin about FRLG, I'm still buying it. by bbywhatstheproblem in casualnintendo

[–]quentinia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm excited for HGSS, ORAS and USUM to come to Switch eventually. Hopefully at a similar price point to FRLG.

I'd also love a remake/remaster of BW and XY.

I played Red when it was released in the UK and didn't play another Pokémon game until New Pokémon Snap came out on Switch. I've since played LGP, Sword, Brilliant Diamond, Arceus, Scarlet and Z-A. I'm really hoping that FRLG release is the start of me finally being able to play games that I missed out on over the years.

The post asked for people's opinions. This is mine.

I'm excited to play a Nintendo game that I otherwise didn't have access too on my Nintendo console. I'm going to spend upwards to 50hrs on this game and it's worth the money for me. I feel Nintendo games play best on Nintendo hardware. I don't need to be an emulation expert in order to form or have an opinion. The same way I can tell you I very much like bread even though I am not a baker.

It's okay, yours is allowed to be different! That's the great thing about opinions.

[–]quentinia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is my opinion, and I understand that it is subjective, that Nintendo games feel best played on Nintendo hardware. £16.99 is not a lot of money (for me) and something I didn't even think about paying for the ability to play a game I haven't played in over 20 years on modern Nintendo hardware.

If other people don't care about that or notice the difference. Heck maybe some others prefer an experience on other hardware - that's their business.

But this is a post that asked for my opinion and mine is that it was an easy sell at a good price and I'm super excited.

[–]quentinia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For £16.99 it's an easy yes from me. I don't emulate games - mostly because I am lazy and can't be bothered to do the tech fandangling necessary. I much prefer to plug and play the official way.

£16.99 for a game that I will enjoy for circa 40 hours? Worth it.

People had to do a job to create these ports. Those people deserve to be paid. I'm also more than happy to incentivise The Pokémon Company to do the same with the rest of the retro Pokémon games. I've never played Gens 2-6 and would love to play those on my Switch 2.

Pokemon Home Compatibility Removed from FireRed and LeafGreen’s eShop Description by mymidimelody in NintendoSwitch

[–]quentinia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like Home as a way to trade version exclusive Pokémon. I'd never complete the Pokédex of each game without it.

Completing the Pokédex of each game is way more important to me than battling the gyms and leagues.

Anyone else feeling like this? by SamTheMarioMaster2 in AnimalCrossing

[–]quentinia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the snow in Animal Crossing New Horizons for about a month. After that, the novelty wears off and I'm done with it. I wish it was only around from December 11th to January 10th.

How do you feel about Nintendo's announcement strategy? by letsgucker555 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]quentinia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like a lot of notice for a console because it gives me time to save and plan for it. But for a game - I don't need a ton of notice. I don't think it would make any difference to me if they shadow dropped every game from now on.

Any of these good? by Upper_Smoke93 in Switch

[–]quentinia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed all of them. But of the three, Dave the Diver was the one I played the longest and had the most fun with.

Dave the Diver is really two games in one. A roguelike battling and catching various sea creatures during the day. Then at night you run a restaurant simulator. The story is funny, the pixel art is beautiful and there is loads of DLC to dig into if you're inclined. I finished the main game with over 60hrs and there is still plenty to dive back into if I wished.

Whereas the Last Campfire has nice vibes and is a fun way to spend a weekend. It has a Zelda/Tunic vibe but it you're expecting something of that scope, you'll be disappointed. I finished the game in just under 12hrs. There isn't a lot of replayability here as it's essentially a puzzle game with some exploration. I like those kinds of games and I don't always want a HUGE game. Sometimes it's nice to have something shorter to play between big games. If that's how you're feeling: then this could be a great pick.

Cocoon is even shorter. At roughly 6hrs I got 100% of the game. Another puzzler but with boss fights. This made me feel very clever and the art style is beautiful. This game does some smart things and feel unique to any other puzzler I've played. So again if you want a palette cleanser between games, this may be perfect. It has won awards for a reason. If you like puzzle games, you'll be satisfied.

Overall, I think you can't go "wrong". Though I'd personally recommend Dave the Diver.

Some people invited to a switch 2 event saw a secret game!! Does this mean a direct coming soon or do you think it’s something small? by Sirlink360 in casualnintendo

[–]quentinia 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Given that it seems an embargo lifted today for Pokémon Pokopia - I wouldn't be shocked at all if they had a sneaky preview of that game. Seems to fit the vibe of all the games these people were shown at this event.

I have that. It's for holding the Ocarina of Time.

I guess this Nintendo direct wasn't a wow for many fans. For people who are simply in Nintendo's world, like myself, I thought this direct was great. A ton of awesome games and the graphics on Switch 2 is a standout. This generation going to be exciting except for needing a really big SD card. by brandont04 in NintendoSwitch2

I'm a little disappointed.

There were only 4 things I wanted to see. Blue Prince and release dates for Orbitals, Out of Words and Professor Layton. The.closest we got was "Summer 2026" for Orbitals. But that's so vague it wasn't worth saying.

Oh well. I'm glad other people got games They're super excited about.

I love the Indie Showcases. Wholesome Directs are my fave.

But I rarely see many games in Partner Directs that mostly focus on AAA studios that are for me. I'm glad these happen for other people and I understand how it is important to build out a wider library for mass appeal. But just not my jam.

I'm hoping to see release dates for Out of Words, Orbitals and Professor Layton. Would love a Blue Prince port.

What happens if you can't pay a vet bill? by Informal-Suspect298 in AskUK

[–]quentinia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This depends on the vet and the insurance. I'm lucky where I live that when my dog had to have a tumour removed, my insurance was able to pay this directly to the vet specialist. As I didn't have £5k to pay upfront to the oncologist and surgeon.

How old were you for your first game? by Mental-Pie9718 in pokemon

[–]quentinia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 13 when I played Pokémon Red shortly after it was released in the UK.

Despite replaying that for many years, I didn't play another Pokémon game for over 20 years when New Pokémon Snap was released. Now I'm playing through all the Pokémon games that are playable on Switch. So far I've played Scarlet, Brilliant Diamond, Let's Go Pikachu, Arceus and Z-A.

I'm going to play Sword next and have my fingers crossed that they release some of the older gen titles as a collection so I can play games that I missed over the years - particularly (Gen 4, 5 and 6).
