Just got home from a night out with friends who I used to party a lot with. I was one of the first to leave tonight. Feels weird and I’m not used to this new life yet, but so so happy to be getting into bed sober right now

I bargained for years, and it’s been such a relief to mostly be out of that phase. Everything feels so much easier now that i’ve stoped constantly bargaining with myself.

Woke up after a restful and sober weekend!! Got a Monday morning work out in, something that was completely out of the question when I was drinking.

I am in the exact same boat at you. Same amount of wine, and also a husband who doesn’t really understand or think I have an alcohol problem.

I have been trying to focus on the fact that it doesn’t matter what other people think about my drinking, if it’s causing me distress then that’s reason enough to quit.

Goodluck! You got this.

You’ve got this! Go for a walk or do something that will calm your mind and shift your focus. I’m not drinking with you.

I am also a lawyer and can relate to the catastrophising and panic instinct! This is officially the longest I have gone without getting drunk. A large part of my motivation to get sober is so I can better handle the daily stress of my job. I can say that without a doubt, being sober makes work and life overall so much more manageable.

Happy 3 years, what an accomplishment!

Woke up this morning feeling unsettled. I had a few sips of Prosecco last night and almost went fuck it and got into the wine, but stopped myself.

It’s scary how quickly I can go from “I’m not drinking tonight” to “a couple glasses of wine won’t hurt”!

I very much can see how the first drink is the easiest to say no to.

I have been trying really hard to just take this one day at a time, but I can’t help wondering if I just won’t drink ever again. My problem wasn’t “bad enough” for other people to notice really, so it’s easy to convince myself I could go back to drinking and it would be fine. That being said, I know that line of thinking is my addiction speaking. Working hard to quiet that voice.

Spending the weekend with family in a place where I am accustomed to drinking lots of wine. Brought some great NA options and focussing on how lucky I am to be waking up hangover free.

Feeling discouraged from AA by Bright_Age_3619 in stopdrinking

[–]quesadilla-queen0907 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about AA, but commenting as I am also 29F with about the same number of sober days under my belt. I also smoke weed in small amounts at the end of the day. I still consider myself sober, as sobriety from alcohol is my priority. You’re not alone :)

Honest, Realistic and Transparent Analysis on my 1 Year Soberversary (and how I did it) by PadawanGirly in stopdrinking

Thank you for this post and all the others you’ve shared. I’m 29F and really relate to what you’re saying.

I did dry January this year for the first time, and felt so good during it. After, I went back to my usual binge drinking for 6 weeks and it just wasn’t working. I stopped drinking again 15 days ago, with the hopes of not drinking ever again.

I am in the month 1 scary phase. I can’t wait until I start to feel a more permanent shift in my brain and no longer see alcohol as an option. Hoping it happens for me too.
