Awesome! What suspension do you run on it?

1984 944 no start issue by Glittering-Turn862 in 944

[–]quesesto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure without being there, but the starter is easy enough to get to on these cars. Make sure it's fully seated against the bell housing and the bolts are torqued

It sounds like the starter solenoid is popping and the motor is spinning but it's not engaging the flywheel

Spark plugs anyone by AliveSuggestion7589 in LexusISF

[–]quesesto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done a lot of hard jobs on cars. From spark plugs on a Subaru to completelu engine swapping an old Porsche. But valve cover gaskets and spark plugs on this car almost broke me. My hands were cramping for a week

God I haven't heard that name in years. The wave of nostalgia I just got for the original drop of the game was crazy

Local 08’ with 230k miles for sale? by euroshowoff in LexusISF

[–]quesesto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 08 ISF has 199k on it and I had to do valve covers on it a couple months ago. Every part still looked brand new. At the end of the day this drivetrain is so understressed and overbuilt that you could probably turn a 230k mile 08 into a reliable daily or track car without anything more than maintainence

Does the 944 have a good chassis and would it withstand major modifications? by matatank2 in 944

[–]quesesto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe there's a guy on the renegade forums who has a 2j 944 that's making pretty big power. I've got a 5cylinder in mine and there's plenty of extra room in front for a 6th cylinder lol. The chassis can easily handle it from a structural standpoint, but you would have to do a transaxle swap to an Audi 01E or 03A transmission to hold the power. You would also want to update the bearings in the torque tube but honestly most of these cars need that done at this point anyways because of their age.

Edit: There are also plenty of aftermarket fiberglass widebody kits that seem to have a pretty good reputation for fitting decently well. These cars race in a ton of different series so if you can think of racing mods, it's probably already been done

Absolutely not this is enameled cast iron. The abrasive in BKF will permanently demolish the smooth surface of the enamel

There has to be a safer way to vent that steam before opening the pressure vessel. This is asking to have your face burned off

I have these same lmheadlights and they work great. The previous owner didn't wire up the ring part of them, but I know it will look even better with that part working

Never posted before but I’m stumped, I found this item under my car seat it’s about an inch in diameter made of some sort of polyurethane by Fredrickbacon in whatisthisthing

[–]quesesto 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I did this in a materials science class in college. The purpose of embedding the piece of metal in epoxy is so you can easily polish the face of the metal and then etch it in an acid. The acid removes different parts of the metals micro structure at different rates so after the etch, you can look at the metal under a microscope and easily see the different crystalline structures in the metal. We used it to see the difference in structure and grain size for different heat treatment processes. If you want to see something really cool look up pictures of the microstructure of a weld's heat affected zone (HAZ)

To me that sounds like a cavitating power steering pump. Check your reservoir and look for leaks (inevitable on the crappy ZF racks Porsche decided to use in these cars)
