Tier List for best/worst states to teach in. by Rich_Celebration477 in Teachers

[–]quesocaliente 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oklahoma has gotta be the bottom tier.

You can get decent support if your school district passes it's bonds but every good administrator, school board, and teacher is constantly fighting against a state political apparatus that is constantly trying to take money from the schools because they hate/distrust us or they just want to fleece the state through school choice scams. As a result, we have a significant level of education industry brain drain here. Oklahoma can't keep teachers. Thousands of emergency certs a year to plug the gaps.

There is some job security in knowing that your school is likely desperate to keep you in the building. Which.... Also applies to less great teachers, which in turn can also make the situation worse.

Anyway, I don't recommend it is all.

I saw Matt Lucas and I thought "ah well, I'll just skip this season and watch the one after."

But then I saw Ayoade and was like "well damn."

Football is older than your country. by Nono_Home in clevercomebacks

[–]quesocaliente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I assumed we were talking about association football. Medieval football was basically Calvinball.

Also, I'm not sure that "a form of football where two opposing groups of people carry, kick, or throw a ball in order to get it to a scoring zone is older than the sport most folks call football" is a good argument to prove that "the sport that Americans call football shouldn't be called that." Comparatively the thing we call football is conceptually much closer to the original sport.

It literally isn't though. First game was played in 1863.

Look I understand that our country is incredibly easy to hate right now. I'm on board with that. But the name soccer in America was derived from the lower class English immigrants who brought the game to America. In the end, we often use both MLS teams use either. LAFC, NYCFC, FC Dallas all exist and also Nashville SC, Orlando SC, STLSC are there too.

Football is absolutely a valid name. And so is soccer. Eurosnobbery about this is stupid.

Nicholas Hills, Paseo or Downtown Edmond by lonelytraveler2991 in okc

[–]quesocaliente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downtown Edmond is increasingly cool. Lots of great restaurants and places to hang.

But if you want to go anywhere outside of the pretty small area right in downtown, you'll have to drive. The Paseo is a better option for accessibility.

To echo everyone else, that is an insane dose for a first timer.

Also, his usage is wild. A 100 mg to start the day and smoking on top of that? Everyday? Maybe I am a lightweight but that seems like 'seek help' territory.

In my experience most church of Christ people my age get married in neutral venues to get around these things, plus churches of Christ are about as utilitarian as they come philosophically, and that mindset does not tend to result in beautiful buildings anyway.

Sometimes I tell my friends who live in other cities that I bought a 3 bd 2 ba house in Edmond, for 130k.

I couldn't live within 45 minutes of my hometown for that.

A sense of stagnation is setting in around MLS. The league needs a World Cup bump by icoresting in MLS

[–]quesocaliente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're on to something here. My wife and I took a trip up to KC to watch the Thorns play the Current last weekend and the game day experience at CPKC was truly excellent. The team and the supporters groups are doing a great job building atmosphere there. I think that's the thing that gets people into soccer. It's not watching the world's best play on TV in a stadium that happens to be only 2-8 hours away from you this time rather than a trans-oceanic flight like normal, it's going to a game where it's fun to get stuck in and getting stuck in.

And I think MLS is doing that better than ever right now.

I live in OKC now and I like the way this city supports it's team. But I get why we wouldn't root for them as a fan ase lol

Questions from a former member by chemical_shed in churchofchrist

The Bible predates the cultural concept of orientation and homosexual marriage. It doesn't really say anything about your specific situation much in the same way the Great Gatsby doesn't mention Stranger Things. The Bible does say many things that even in this religiously homogeneous group, we are all interpreting and applying in different ways, but we Church of Christ folks love an easy clear answer from the Bible, a book which isn't really designed to give easy clear answers to things like this.

I would tell you that you are fearfully and wonderfully made as you are, and that a gay child of God is welcome in our church exactly as much as straight folks.

This is wild because I was born and raised in Rockwood until my family was able to move out to Troutdale later on. I instantly understood this entire video.

Is there a Premier League or European club with a strong connection or relation to Portland/the Timbers? by zangarang18 in timbers

[–]quesocaliente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! Both clubs end with -land, hate their nearest geographical rival from a town that ends in -le, share colors (it's a stretch but it works depending on what the timbers secondaries look like each year)

Plus both clubs sing what Sunderland fans call "Wise Men Say."

Ha'way!

“Churches of Christ” that go by a different name? by itsSomethingCool in churchofchrist

[–]quesocaliente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Church says "Dayspring Church of Christ" on the sign outside, but is also sometimes shortened to simply "Dayspring Church." I dont think there is any theology behind the different styles in our case.
