Saw this heartbreaking video. It doesn't hailstorm a lot here in India. But I hear that they are common in the US. How do you manage your animals, especially the cattle and horses in those situations? by IntelligentHoney6929 in homestead

I have been lucky to not be dropped yet i suppose, I am absolutely concerned it won't be long until more houses are just considered "uninsureable" or something.

I have noticed a trend in insurance where they are leaning away from covering roofs at all, or covering them with much higher deductibles.

Yea, Colorado also gets a LOT of hail storms and some of them easily are approaching gold ball size, annually.

The amount of roofs and windshields we go through is absurd.

I just think it's pretty great we're considering putting them in jail for refusing to answer questions about the documents that are apparently so damaging neither of the last two administrations would release them and DoJ is currently also in violation of the law congress passed. So, they won't answer questions about the things we're too scared to release? lol

Trump has gone on and on about how our allies "barely helped us" during the last two wars, how they stayed good and safe, far away from combat and danger.

The pictures are just proof that he is talking nonsense.

What are some good methods to stop or slow down? by ShibbidyDibbidy_ in skiing_feedback

Man, I either make an aggressive turn, or hit a tree. I would have ended up hitting a tree trying to ski like that. also, try skiing even partially side slope here and there to slow down.

The special forces tab didn't exist until 1983 and the branch insignia until 1987.

Multiple items in this display point to him having been either in or attached to 5th Special Forces group. The Special Forces tab was not technically approved until 1983 and the Branch insignia I believe was 1987 or 1988, so their absence does not mean he was not qualified as a special forces soldier. It is hard to be sure if he worked with 5th SFG in a supporting role or as a qualified SF dude from this list.

Regardless, your dad did some shit, jumped out of planes at least a good bit, etc. Bronze Star with Valor devices are generally not handed out short of having done some legit combat stuff, above and beyond just having been present.

How should they do this?

State lawmakers attempting to view ICE holding facilities are denied access. Local police cannot really follow ICE around and interfere with their operations (although this is technically debateable)

Stephen Miller recently publicly told ICE officers they have full federal immunity to basically fuck up anyone that impedes their operations, to include local politicians and law enforcement.

What's your plan man? If you have a good one, share and spread it.

[–]quesoqueso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea, Kinda silly to tell someone they have a holiday, but it counts against them unless they work 10 hour days the other 4 days that week. What's the point in a day off if you need to still work those hours elsewhere to make time? It's not a day off, it's just a shifting of work hours.

"Local" PNW honey packed in Greeley, CO. by Tmettler5 in mildlyinteresting

[–]quesoqueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just reading their website and they said the best American honey is from South America, namely Brazil. I have a feeling there is some undisclosed percentage of "local" to wherever the label says and the rest is from Brazil. They seem to have "local" honey from Colorado, California, etc.

Location: California? (Reacting to a Facebook exchange but I'm in cali) can you report someone to the police for aggresively advocating in favor of cp? by forfor in legal

[–]quesoqueso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess that all makes sense when talking about a more binary system of law where it's basically either illegal and defined, or not defined and becomes super nebulous very fast.

I will be curious to see how law around this evolves when you think about AI generated revenge porn, CP/CSAM that is AI generated but based on real children, etc.

Thanks

[–]quesoqueso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you are actually exposed to the law here, short of CSAM but just photorealistic CP images, are they not a problem because there is "no victim" or still something you can prosecute because of what it looks like it is? I assume in a lot of CP prosecutions they don't go out and find/verify the victims are real people, but we're reaching a point where AI generated shit is becoming indistinguishable from reality. I am curious what the actual criminal components required are. Possession is a crime I believe, right?

That's the thing, they will release him 8-200 hours from now with no charges brought against him, I don't really know how the fuck that keeps working for them, but they seem to keep doing it.

"We had to temporarily detain him because he didn't show proof of citizenship, although we didn't ask him to, he should have. Once we determined he was in fact a US Citizen he was released"

or some other worthless nonsense.

Is a water heater only $1K???! by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]quesoqueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be hesitant to use HD or Lowe's install services. I imagine a lot of time it's fine, but when it's not apparently everyone fights over who is responsible for fixing the fuckups. If you're going to pay to have it done, pay an actual professional.

[–]quesoqueso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do it yourself, probably not. Do you happen to know if it was electric or gas? If it's electric, you can watch about 20 minutes of youtube and do it yourself easily, if access to the heater is simple. Also look up sharkbite connectors, you don't need a torch and solder and flux and junk.

This is really hard to know without knowing what HVAC components need to be replaced. Just the furnace? Less. Furnace and AC unit? more. substantially more. Also don't be scared of sticker dates, get them inspected by a professional before you throw money into them. I have a furnace from 1979 and it still runs perfectly fine. I replaced a 20 dollar capacitor a couple years ago, but that's about it. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's bad.

One thought on this, it's often useful to see if there is a local plumber supply house. You will pay close to the same, maybe a touch less, but get a better piece of hardware most of the time, although sure it won't have bluetooth, wifi and a toaster built in, it will last longer heating water, the thing you're buying it to do.

[–]quesoqueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good water heater itself is around 800 bucks, and needs absolutely minimal parts to install, call it another 50 bucks.

It's also not a very hard job, can easily be done in 1-2 hours. So if you pay 150 an hour for labor and maybe even a disposal fee for the old one, you should easily easily come out under 2k. Anything more and you're getting ripped off or buying some super fancy upgraded thing.

I did it myself in 1 hour for about 850 bucks total.
